„Ade zur guten Nacht“ ist ein deutsches Volkslied und nicht nur als „Gute-Nacht-Lied“, gedacht sondern ursprünglich ein Abschiedsgruß für den endgültigen Abschied – für Situationen, in denen jemand Familie oder Geliebte auf immer verlässt (z. B. Auswanderu ng oder ein „Lebwohl“ ohne Wiederkehr). Erst Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts wurde diese ältere Bedeutung zunehmend überlagert, sodass das Lied oft als Abendlied missverstanden wurde.
