There's a special event happening in Milan right now What is it Exactly— the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina
Today we'll hear what people have to say about this major event
You will encounter useful phrases for expressing opinions describing events and discussing emotions
All phrases you could use in a conversation with an Italian friend
So what do Italians think of these Olympics Let's go ask them
I'm telling you Milan-Cortina Olympics What's your first thought
Milan So Olympics mean sports movement and fun
Cold certainly I must honestly say I'm not very athletic
But the first thing that comes to mind is definitely a huge number
of people gathering in one place This is what I’m thinking
I meanwhile think of a vast multitude of people united by a common interest
sports shared participation and contributing to the local economy in any case
This could certainly help lift up many countries especially those with ties to minority groups
When I say Winter Olympics Milano-Cortina what comes to mind
Neve
Yes ice Okay
right now Mountains Alps skiing sports athletes stadium Enough
What a beautiful thought Long live the Olympics
There's nothing more to say—now we just wait for the avalanche guys
We can't wait to see these magnificent skiers rise to the top just as the Blue Avalanche did in the 70s and 80s
Little snow this year in Italy Hopefully it will snow for the start
I don't know so many people the adrenaline— it's great come on
Discomfort Massive inconvenience for citizens—beautiful yes but a huge burden on the people
What kind of inconvenience
If that's true then they'll also block pedestrians on certain
streets at specific times and I don't find that at all acceptable
Also for instance I have to go to Niguarda on the 5th for an important appointment
I'm afraid I won't be able to get back by vehicle as far as I need to
So I'll have to walk back
But I'm doing fine though there may be others who aren't
So they had to anticipate say at least some somewhat unusual scenarios for unusual homes
That's all there is
Even when discussing a specific topic such as the Winter Olympics
In today's video we heard everyday phrases Italians use at the bar on the street and with friends
But how do you remember them all You have to use them in conversation

What are the pros and cons of these Olympics in Milan in your opinion
A bit of congestion a bit more traffic—there's activity
So much tourism that we need to see how it will be managed
But it's also a
pro But at the same time it's exactly that pro
Carrying a load of tourists is a great way
to give the
economy a little boost too Exactly
Oddio so the pros are definitely Well in Milan you
always see tons of people
The point is to see even more
Perhaps the real challenge is all this people gathered together Maybe there
will be some difficulty moving around or something along those lines for sure
But it will surely be quite curious to see so many people around
Well in my opinion the plus is that there are so many people
So it means many ethnicities people from all over the world and new languages being spoken too
For example I also learned other languages at school
So I speak both Spanish and German and I imagine Germans and Spaniards coming to Italy
I don't think there are many downsides in my view they're all pros because
we can get to know each other
and move forward together So no downsides at all
I don't have any objections
For me sports are one of the best things humanity has and I personally engage in sports
What sport do you do
Basketball a sport I've loved for 13 years never bores me and it keeps me moving forward every single day
Who are they
I suppose the city must be hoping it gains some economic benefit from it
I have to be honest with you—I go to Sempione because of my work with dogs
So I have to say that right now I don't see any improvement
They're working hard building numerous infrastructures and I feel a bit sorry about it
That's because the park especially Sempione is always the one being exploited
The Arco della Pace is always bustling with stalls and activities throughout the year especially during events
So even the tourists I see them arriving looking around bewildered as if to say "But where's the Arch "
And so I'll admit I'm having a bit of trouble spotting the advantages though there surely must be some
But I don't see this city enhancement as care so much as cosmetic
improvement I see numerous functional facilities that will serve tourists
But even people working on this thing—I have some doubts
Well in my opinion one advantage is that it's a well-known city
It's easily accessible as it's connected by subway trams and plenty more
And a second issue in my view is perhaps the massive pollution that will only continue to multiply
because regardless it's well known that Milan is quite polluted atmospherically
From every direction even the dirt is visible as it turns the corner unfortunately
Whether in the city center or on the outskirts there is no distinction
And therefore I fear this pollution rate might increase
It is also highly harmful not only to athletes but also to municipalities and citizens like us
I'm involved in everything—visibility of course in Milan you don't
ski but skate So hockey figure skating speed skating—we have champions
We have the Olympic silver medalists from Tokyo who were also my son's skating coaches since he too used to skate
And then there's hockey which isn't as strong as the others but will certainly try to make its mark
But we have the speed which is exactly where we're truly strong
And what about the downside of these Olympics in Milan
The planning is a bit disorganized—everything's decided at the last minute and it all started way too late
We have many people working in this sector as clients and some even live in the area
And sometimes a client comes by and tells us things and everything will be revealed at the last minute
So the public trials on the structure and the ice rink might be testing it right now
And so basically the trails are a bit behind but luckily it snowed
But it seems that whenever there are major global organizations involved projects always end up being completed at the last minute
It's just a matter of getting organized a bit beforehand for next time
I'd say they'll definitely bring a lot of people here which will mean more customers for the shops nearby
For tourism there will undoubtedly be a positive economic impact certainly benefiting businesses
Let's say for example I live down here in southern Milan and nearby there's an ice skating rink
It has an arena they built for the curtain and it casts a lot of light because they keep it on all the time
and so literally the other evening it looked like there was a northern lights display due to light pollutio
and certainly a lot of public money has been spent on these things with some projects still not yet completed
So I've seen on social media that some people are criticizing this issue
Are you noticing any changes in the city or have you seen any
I noticed they've done a lot of work using machinery and added several new lines
I've also noticed some road work being done even here behind us they'repairing several roads
Nevertheless I've noticed they've likely tried to improve road conditions somewhat for these days
Outside yes as we approached the ring road it was clear they're doing all the
work— they've built the new arena—but inside the city we haven't seen anything yet
Would you like to watch some
races Yes
Type
Skating and hockey
Me too
I love skiing so I'm really into that—would be interesting
I'm into hockey lately—it's been piquing my interest as a sport
At this moment the pink avalanche is certainly guaranteed and since we're also extremely strong in figure skating
Having spent ten years living through my son's training sessions I'd certainly be very happy to go there too
That would be curious yes actually quite curious indeed though unfortunately I don’t think I’ll have the chance
Yet it would truly be curious—an experience in my opinion worth having once in a lifetime
Honestly I'm not very interested in sports but we did follow the General Olympics on television
so I'm not passionate enough to actually go see it in person
But if I happen to catch ice skating I enjoy watching the performances meaning the competitions
Yes of course I do find the races interesting—absolutely from a sporting standpoint I'm truly happy without a doubt
If you could try one of the sports from these Olympics which one would you choose
Well I have to say that besides basketball I've also done skiing and honestly I'd rather go skiing because I absolutely love it
The jump I'd really love is the ski jump—there's
something truly wonderful about the feeling of flying
I'd love ice skating—it would be so beautiful yes really lovely I've always enjoyed it
No more like an observer
Ice skating
It would be wonderful to try something new—yes probably skating yes absolutely
Try it No I'm hopeless
I'm leaving it to the others
Ice skating
I've got it covered
You already know how to do these things or would it be something new
A little skating okay never done it before
Definitely something new 100%
The sci
No I can't due to a missed knee and precisely for that reason skiing yes
Thank you so much we're done
Do you follow the Winter Olympics Which sport do you prefer
