Finally, I made it to Belize! This is my first motovlog from this awesome country. From the border crossing to the open roads, from camping to the city life. Come along for the ride and find out!
How's my hair on the last day? On the last day in Mexico
Never mind
That's it
We all packed up
I mean we, Julie and I
Time to head to the border
It's only I think 60 kilometers away from here
I'm prepared
I have my documents ready, passport ready
I have no veggies, no food, nothing to declare
Hopefully the border crossing will be nice and easy
The most important thing is to get the tip and 400 dollars back
I'm sad now
Thank you Mexico for everything
Thank you for having me
Thank you for these beautiful memories
Thank you each one of you who I met on the road
For making my journey so special
I really found my peace here
I really needed it
Yeah
Let's cross to Belize now
Okay last fuel for the border crossing
Because apparently fuel in Belize is way more expensive
So we're gonna fill Julie up
Tanque lleno por favor
Gasolina premium
Si
Esta tanque uno
Esta tanque dos
Gracias
Muchas gracias
Con tarjeta por favor
Just to give you the price
21 liters here cost me 500
26 dollars
21 liters 26 dollars
110 zlotys
Or Aussie dollars
43 dollars
21 liters
Continue for 29 kilometers
Fine
I forgot I'm a I'm an overlander
I meant to cross the borders
Five months I didn't do that
It was so good
Nearly there
Cars, light vehicles this way
All right we need to we need to stop here
And then walk
There you go Julie
There's a spot for you
And we're all set
I got my 400 deposit back for the temporary income permit
And what was interesting I had to pay 45 dollars exit fee
Well I had visa for six months that I applied for
And I paid for
But because I stayed more than 90 days
I had to pay 45 dollars
So confusing
So long Mexico
It's been a pleasure
Welcome to Berlin
Chilly we're in
Immigration
Customs border control
That's the passport check
All right
I just got a sign from this gentleman that I need to go into the building
We have to go here
Are you hiding it?
I'm hiding it, yeah
I drove around the world for eight years now
I like your gear
Thank you
I love it
Yeah very nice
Okay we're all done
So that was nice and easy
Now we're gonna have our passport checked
With the visa
Hello how are you?
Thank you so much
All right so I only paid like seven and a half American dollars
15 Belize
For processing I think my visa
But tip was free
Hello
Do I need to give you any paper?
Passport
And this one is for you?
No nothing to declare
No
No snorkeling
Thank you
Insurance building is which way?
That one the white one
Okay thank you so much
I can go through here?
Thank you
Okay
And now we're gonna get the insurance
Apparently it's optional
It's not compulsory to have the third-party insurance in Belize
But I am not taking the risk
I always get insurance
So
To invite you here
Wait
Won't be long
So everything is sorted
My insurance
Third-party insurance
Was around 20
22 dollars for two weeks
Which I think it's
A bit cheap
I don't know
I think it's
I can't remember what I paid in Mexico
My insurance was for like six months in Mexico
So it was a different deal
Yeah
Anyway 22 dollars for the insurance
Around seven dollars
Processing fee for the visa
Tick was free
We're in
Tilly Tilly are you ready?
Are you ready to ride another country?
I love this moment when you cross the border
And you just observe
Continue on Philip Goldson Highway for five kilometers
Okay
And you just observe
Like how this country is different to the previous one I've just been to
I love that feeling
Everything's just fresh
Like a fresh start
So good
This must be sugarcane, right?
Looks like it's
Harvesting season for the sugarcane here
The stripes are everywhere
And sugarcane is all over the road
What happened to the road here?
I think this is supposed to be a
Well the road through the water through the river
So I guess it's being washed out sometimes
Hopefully it won't rain tomorrow
Really it's a clayish road
Wouldn't be so much fun when it's wet
Whoa look at this mud
Interesting
And here we have a river
I think river or lake
I'm not sure
Anyway
The campground is just nearby
All right, I think we're supposed to be very close
Your destination is on the right
All right
That is mostly the camp
Let's go
Oh, wow
Cause it's a bird sanctuary
You can get the birds
We're not gonna get a rain tonight
No, we're not, we're not
No rain
This is gonna be our first night in Belize
At this campground
I like the scenario
So look what we have here
My tent and Chillie are parked under this little shelter
Chillie is very close to my tent
I know
She's never been so close
But my theory on this
If it's gonna rain
We're still in the dry land
So she shouldn't fall down on my tent
Well
That's my theory
But all of this
All of this was flooded in December
Like a month ago
So
Guys are still trying to clean it up
Here you've got like really green grass
And here not so much
Because it was flooded
So yeah
Chillie, behave
We're still being very close to each other today
Don't fall down on me
So basically this is bird sanctuary
There's a lot of beds here
Because there's a lot of water
Have a look
Like
Stuck water everywhere
See over here and there and everywhere
And they do boat trips
And
Yeah
People come here to look at the birds
I think it's a perfect spot for our first night in Belize
Tonight's dinner
Is cooking
First corn
With pasta
My invention
Today
And we mix it all together
So I've also
I've added garlic as well
And smoked paprika
Little chili flakes
Delicious
And I found Mr. Soup in my car
I've been carrying it
Since the USA
So
For over
Six months
Almost
What a nice dinner
My first dinner
In Belize
Belize has a very different feeling
To tell you
Well
First of all
It's not a Latin country
They're in Commonwealth
They have
The queen
On the currency
Them of Australia
And New Zealand
So interesting
I have a feeling
I'm gonna have a great time here
Well
I have a great time everywhere I go
To be honest
Chili looking so good
Good morning
I woke up at six
Packed up quickly
Because the rain is coming
I feel it
It's already like drizzling
It is coming
Let's get out of here
I'm going to Belize city today
Which is only like 55 kilometers away
So it's an easy ride
But I need to get some supplies from the camping shop
Hopefully there is one in the city
So that's the plan
I shot right today
All right
And we're good to go
I must say this place is very nice
The birds were amazing
I had like night birds
They were making noises
Like a beautiful noises
You know
Not like Aussie birds
They just yell
And then
Head west
Okay
And then in the morning
I have a lot of different kind of birds
It was very nice
In 400 meters turn right
All right
So
During this flooding December
All of this was flooded
People had to evacuate
And couldn't come back to their house
For like six weeks or so
And apparently they're dealing with that flooding thing
Like once every five years
So
It's a big problem
For this village
All right we're going to this bridge road
Technically speaking
We're going through the water now look
We're going through the water
Oh look at this big bird above us
Looks like an eagle
And we're on the other side
Guy
Walking with the bike
And I'm thinking maybe he's out of fuel
And I do have spare fuel
Continue for six kilometers
Hello
Are you out of the fuel?
No
What happened?
Do you want me
Do you want me to pull you?
Okay
Because I can
You know I can
If we if you have a rope I can just pull you
Okay, cool
All right, so you're okay?
Yeah, I'm okay, yeah
No worries
That's him?
With a cigarette in his mouth?
Was that a cigarette in his mouth?
Yeah, it was a peanut
How is he riding and smoking?
That's so crazy
Thank you
I'm coming from Australia
Yeah, yeah
I'm on a world tour
I just stayed here camping at the bird sanctuary
And I'm going to Belize city
But I saw you like maybe you need fuel
And I have spare
Okay, cool
As long as you're okay
And your brother is gonna
Help you
All right, well good luck
Thank you
Good luck
Well, looks like he's okay
And it's raining
It's okay
I'm glad we're going to the city
We're not camping today
We still have 60 kilometers
So my bra, my undies, my t-shirt are already wet
Yep
So strange to be in the rain
Honestly
I forgot how it is
But now I know
I think we're getting to the city center
Yeah
Looks like it's an important roundabout
All these flags
They're all from Caribbean countries
Yep
We are in the capital city
That's for sure
The traffic is bad
I don't think because it's raining
People are even slower
Squeezing as much as we can
We want to use the merch
Oh my god
It goes forever
All right, I think
Now we're getting into
Take the next right onto Queen Street
A mainish sort of area
Like the real downtown
In 600 meters, you will arrive at your destination
Okay and this street apparently is like a sort of like a main street
This is it
This is downtown
So we're just gonna ride through it
Because it's not a walking weather
At least reminds me
Somehow it's got a similar vibe as Zanzibar of all the places
Really
It just feels like Zanzibar to me
Nice
This looks flash, chilly
You have arrived
Yeah, they even have a casino
So you know what's the most interesting about my hotel is?
That there is a cinema
At the moment I've played three movies
This cinema is only open Friday, Saturday, Sunday
And it's the only cinema in the country
My hair
I arrived too early
To my hotel
They didn't let me check in
So I went for a little walk
Well, I'm actually at the hotel next door
As I can see my one is just here
We can see the bay
And from here we can see the whole
Yeah, Belize downtown
I must say there's no tall buildings in the city
I think I'm
The one of few
The tallest one here
And I'm in my room
One of the biggest
This is my room
And as I found out
This room normally costs 150 dollars
And I got it for 60 bucks
Unbelievable
And look at the view
The sun is out
The sky is blue
Just my room
So
And here's my guide dog
He's so sweet
We're such good friends
We are such good friends, right?
So sweet
Thank you for looking after us
She says thank you too
So
