Hi, I'm Ben. Meet Alaska, the Caribbean explorer and his capito, our Chilean buff.
For the next few years, this is our house. The world is our garden and you are our family.
We don't know the time of day or where we'll wake up tomorrow. All we know is we're on the
ride of our lives, most of the time. So join us and see what unfolds on this epic adventure.
Last time on Ask to Alaska, we finally returned to the road after five months hard work restoring
a Kombi. We laughed and cried on Christmas day, killed our first chicken and braved some of the
worst roads in Central America to get to a jungle oasis where we met these kick-ass
biker chicks from mytoadventuring.com. This time we're making our way to the Caribbean.
Our whole time in Central America had been on the Pacific side and we spent a lot of time in
Guatemala in the mountains and Mayan villages. We were really excited to head towards the Caribbean
coast and it was nice to see the changes along the way. People always say to us that we shouldn't camp
out in these remote locations like this, we should camp outside the police stations but
you can't do that every night and it's just so worth the risk to wake up in places like this.
Turtle soup for dinner apparently. We just asked them if there's a lot of turtles here,
did they eat them and they said there used to be a lot of turtles but now there's not.
Yeah maybe you should stop eating them.
After stopping at our first ever banana crossing we headed into the bush to discover the tallest
carvings in the Mayan world. What do we have here? What are you doing in a jungle shop?
The historical site of Guiriguá was a great place to explore for the whole Kombi family.
We were heading towards Rio Dulce which is quite a touristy place so we headed off the main road
around Lago Itzabel. It was really nice to spend some time in some local communities along the lake.
We've just been showing what a cinnamon tree is, we're taking cinnamon
off these branches with these these guys. He was just giving us a bunch of cocoa so we're gonna
get some fish which Alaska is working on at the moment and we're gonna cook an awesome curry tonight.
Our new friends at Playa Dorado told us about a hot waterfall not too far away.
Honestly it was an amazing place.
The contrast between the cool water in the pool and the hot mineral water from the falls
was like nothing we'd ever seen or felt which explains the strange look on our faces.
A good measure of our collective happiness can be seen in our mascot
Alaska. Yep it's fair to say Kombi life is pretty much perfect these days. Next time on
Astra Alaska we ditch the Kombi, hitchhike through the murder capital of the world
and head into Honduras in pursuit of an adventure. Stay tuned for a taste of Caribbean island life.
