Ricky Gervais Brutally Tearing Down Celebrities on Live TV!
Comedian Ricky Gervais is arguably one of the most unhinged men on the planet,
someone who never played by Hollywood's rules. Let's start with the night he
absolutely demolished every celebrity at the Golden Globes.
If you do win an award tonight, don't use it as a platform to make a political speech. You're
in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world.
Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. Come up,
accept your little award, thank your agent and your God and f*** off, okay?
Justin Bieber nearly had to take a paternity test.
What a waste of a test that would have been. No, he's not the father.
The only way that he could have impregnated a girl was if he borrowed one of Martha Stewart's
old turkey basters. Ricky Gervais is kind of that uncle we all have, the one who says
whatever comes to his mind without a second thought. And that's exactly what happened here.
If you do win tonight, remember that no one cares about that award as much as you do, okay?
Don't get emotional, it's embarrassing, okay? That award is, no offence, worthless.
It's a bit of metal that some nice old confused journalist
wanted to give you in person so they could meet you and have a selfie with you.
You might call it offensive, but Ricky calls it the truth, and he explains exactly why.
Okay, I've got three golden globes myself. One's a doorstop, one I use to hit burglars with,
and one I keep by the bed to, doesn't matter why, it's mine. It's mine.
It's mine. I won it fair and square. It's just the right shape and size. It's nothing...
Yeah, so to be clear, that was a joke about me shoving golden globes that I've won up my arse.
And they asked me to host four times.
We all know Hollywood award shows can get pretty intense,
and here's Ricky giving his take on the Will Smith situation.
I was saying, oh, what would have happened if Ricky had been hosting it? And I said,
nothing, because I wouldn't have made a joke about his wife's hair.
I'd have made a joke about her boyfriend.
And then that trended, and that played the paper, and it just went on and on.
So that was a big... That's a big thing, though, to slap someone at...
It's insane.
Since Ricky Gervais couldn't hold himself back,
he was given strict rules for the next golden globes. And let's just say he had some fun with
that.
They actually gave me a list of rules. I'm going to ignore them,
but I thought it'd be good to read them out, okay? This is real, okay?
No profanity. That's fine. I've got a huge vocabulary.
No nudity. See, that's a shame, because I've got a huge
vocabulary. But a tiny penis. No, it's true. It doesn't matter. I don't care. It works.
Don't worry about it. It's fine. It's fine. I don't...
And so far, he's doing great, while making celebrities laugh very awkwardly.
No smut or innuendo. And I'm not to libel anyone.
And I mustn't mention Mel Gibson this year.
Not his private life, his politics, his recent films, and especially not Jodie Foster's Beaver.
I haven't seen it myself.
I've spoken to a lot of guys here. They haven't seen it either. But
that doesn't mean it's not any good.
So Piers Morgan brought Ricky Gervais onto his show and decided to ask a controversial,
pointless question. But Ricky's calm and funny demeanor shut it down instantly.
Now, it's been giving out gun permits to blind people. Not just partially blind,
but completely blind people who aren't allowed legally to drive cars. Just because they lost
their sight, why should they lose the constitutional right to continue having a gun?
And he wasn't wrong. Piers got owned by a simple explanation. But there's more to come.
Dear America, please let Piers buy a Kinder Egg. But don't let him buy a gun.
When Hollywood's dark scandals came to light, most celebrities tried to stay low-key.
But at the Golden Globes, Ricky Gervais spotted a few of them and decided to confront it head-on.
But tonight isn't just about the people in front of camera. In this room are some of the most
important TV and film executives in the world. People from every background, but they all have
one thing in common. They're all terrified of Ronan Farrow. He's coming for you. He's coming
for you. Our next presenter starred in Netflix's Bird Box, a movie where people survive by acting
like they don't see a thing. Sort of like working for Harvey Weinstein. You did it. I didn't. You
did it. Shut the f*** up. Just like Piers Morgan, many other TV hosts tried to take shots at Ricky
Gervais. But Ricky stayed calm and countered every single one. On the Golden Globes, a lot of time
Yeah, well, that's the thing about offense, isn't it? When people say they're offended,
just because you're offended, it doesn't mean you're right, you know?
Offense is about feelings, and feelings are personal. Some people are offended by equality.
So what? You can't second-guess people. If you try and please everyone, you'll please no one.
With comedy as well, I think you've got to deal with taboos and contentious issues,
and sometimes you deal in irony, and some people don't get that. But,
you know, you can't legislate against stupidity, otherwise you'll be doing nothing.
Referring to Sex and the City 2, I said I was sure the Golden Globe would go to the team that
airbrushed that poster. Yeah. A little sexist. No, it's not. Why is it sexist? Well, because
they're saying that the girls are older and they need to be airbrushed. No, no, no. Oh, no? No,
I think they look great at their age. Oh. Why hide it? Oh. I don't think you lose your sensuality
or beauty because you hit 53. I'm saying, why are they hiding it? Oh, I see. And later,
Ricky Gervais brought up Hollywood's divorce speed run, showing absolutely no mercy.
It's been an amazing year in show business. It's not all been good news.
What's with all the divorces? What's going on? I mean, Arnold and Maria, JLo and Mark Antony,
Ashton and Demi, Kim Kardashian and some guy no one will ever remember. He wasn't around long.
A marriage that lasted 72 days. I've sat through longer James Cameron acceptance speeches than
that. Hey, guys, correct me if I'm wrong, but why do celebrities look so scared to laugh at
his jokes? It's not like he's lying. I honestly don't get it. Hollywood Foreign Press deemed The
Martian a comedy and even nominated it. And hence Matt Damon is here tonight. So that worked a treat,
didn't it? To be fair, The Martian was a lot funnier than pixels.
But then again, so was Schindler's List. It's just a film. And no one roasted Mel Gibson quite
like Ricky Gervais, so much so that Ricky always had something to say about him. And I mean,
always. Kiefer's got a couple more hours before it gets really messy as well. So
Mel Gibson, come on. No, come on. I'm not going to go in. He's been through a lot.
Not as much as the Jews. And that wasn't the only time he went after Mel Gibson.
Months before the next Golden Globes, Mel was caught in another alcohol related controversy
and Ricky didn't waste a second bringing it up. A few years ago on this show,
I made a joke about Mel Gibson getting a bit drunk and saying a few unsavory things.
I wasn't judging him, but now I find myself in the awkward position of having to introduce him
again. Listen, I'm sure it's embarrassing for both of us, okay? And I blame NBC for
this terrible situation. Mel blames, we know Mel blames. Listen, I still feel a bit bad for it,
right? Mel's forgotten all about it apparently. That's what drinking does. No, I want to say
something nice about Mel before he comes out. Here you go. I'd rather have a drink with him
in his hotel room tonight than with Bill Cosby. Please welcome Mel Gibson.
Yeah. I love seeing Ricky once every three years because it reminds me that he got a colonoscopy.
In the end, he obviously didn't kill himself. Just like Jeffrey Epstein.
Shut up. I know he's your friend, but I don't care.
You hosted the Golden Globes. Is it five times you hosted the Golden Globes?
Five times over 10 years, yeah. Were you in the audience for any of Ricky's Golden Globes?
Several times. It was a little bit- I think it cuts to you in one of them.
I think we need to talk about Jeffrey Epstein. I don't know why he had to me.
You see what I'm doing there? Yeah. You try it. No, I can't. Come on.
Sorry, how is this not a breakdown? What are you doing? What are you doing?
I'm trying to help you. That's amazing. Available for streaming. I've never seen you so animated.
That was amazing. Thank you. On Netflix. I thought you were giving up. Okay.
And Ricky Gervais didn't hold back at all when he went full roast mode on Jennifer Lawrence.
Jennifer Lawrence made the news when she demanded equal pay for women in Hollywood,
and she received, yeah, overwhelming support from people everywhere. There were marches
on the street with nurses and factory workers saying,
how the hell can a 25-year-old live on 52 million? There were plumbers around the world going,
poor girl in town, where's Ricky now? And on that same night, his next target was
James Corden and his hilarious role in the movie Cats. The world got to see James Corden as a fat
pussy. He was also in the movie Cats, but no one saw that. And the reviews, oh, shocking.
I saw one that said, this is the worst thing to happen to cats since dogs.
But Dame Judi Dench defended the film, saying it was the role she was born to play,
because she, I can't do this next joke, because she loves nothing better than plonking herself
down on the carpet, lifting her leg, and licking her...
Furball, furball. She's old school. It's the last time, who cares?
Talking of The Walking Dead, congratulations to Hugh Hefner, who is getting married at the age
of 84, to 24-year-old beauty Crystal Harris. When she was asked why she was marrying him,
she said because he lied about his age. He told me he was 94. Oh, come on.
Don't worry. Hold out and just don't look at it when you touch it.
And for the final roast, Ricky Gervais called out the controversy around the movie The Tourist,
with Johnny Depp sitting right there in the audience.
It was a big year for 3D movies, Toy Story, Despicable Me,
Tron. Seems like everything this year was three-dimensional, except the characters in The
Tourist. I feel bad about that joke. No, I'll tell you why. I'm jumping on the bandwagon,
because I haven't even seen The Tourist. Who has? But no, it must be good, because it's nominated,
so shut up, okay? And I'd like to quash this ridiculous rumour going around that the only
reason The Tourist was nominated was so the Hollywood foreign press could hang out with
Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. That is rubbish. That is not the only reason. They also accepted
bribes. Let's...
