Hi, this is Nick and Chris here at SaratogaWine.com with a beautiful set of Sicilian wines today.
Heading to the island of Sicily.
Yeah, because honestly I'm not familiar with them until we tried them.
Niccolo Grappaldi, we thought this would be a golden opportunity to show as many people as it wants to see it.
Well, we're going to try them again and make sure our primary assessment was correct.
Let's check it out.
Alright, let's get these opened up here.
Cool.
We're once again blown away by these and kind of reaffirmed our decision to bring them back and feature them.
It's unbelievable. It's almost like a Burgundian style approach, I think, to the wines.
Or at the very least like this kind of Piedmontese, Barolo, Barbaresco, you know, style to it.
I mean, they're just so elegant, perfumed, satin tannins.
Smooth. It's definitely got an ashy minerality to it that I find gives lift to wines instead of like, you know,
sometimes earthiness can like add depth and texture.
This is more of a lift, like making a deeper wine. It's making almost a lighter wine.
So complex here. Rose petals, menthol. You get that kind of ashy, you know, lifted note like we were talking about.
Kind of marinated cherry thing going on here. Tobacco. It's just awesome.
They're definitely giving it a lot of care and love and respect.
Doing it organic, biodynamic, the whole thing. So these guys are trying to do it right. To me, they are.
Right. And then the Spinosanta?
Spinosanta is 100% Nerella Mescalese, which to me, this ups that Burgundian, you know, Piedmontese reference.
Yeah, totally.
It smells like it, looks like it. That cherry that you mentioned before right there. Just beautiful.
The rose petals, you know, floral aromatics, tobacco kind of settling in to give it, you know, some base notes.
It's crazy good. Both are from the 2019 vintage. So we've got, you know, five plus years on this.
I would say these guys are ready to go, but we'll definitely be fine with five, ten more years on them. Absolutely.
I just made a beef ragout the other night and we think that'd be awesome with it.
But certainly, you know, poultry dishes wouldn't be good, but your traditional style, you know, Italian herb centric dishes will be great.
These are awesome.
I think that's the thing about Burgundy. When it's right, it's stunning. These wines to me are stunning in that way.
I mean, I would say me personally, they're the best examples of wine I've ever had out of Sicily to date.
All right. Till next time. We appreciate it as always.

Cheers.
Niccolo Gripaldi. Delicious.
Get it in your glass.
All right.
