Those failures of course extend beyond the borders of Illinois. That's their national
failures, a failure to have comprehensive immigration reform, a failure of the president
to follow his own edict to go after the worst of the worst. Wait, really? He's saying that the
president didn't go after the worst of the worst, so a guy arrested for shoplifting and sneaking
into the country is let go on the streets of Chicago and Governor Pritzker takes no
responsibility for that. It is amazing. This is an incredible story and everyone is now trying to
point fingers because this poor girl is dead. Kathy Salvey is the Illinois GOP chair. Matt
Slater is New York Assemblyman who knows Sheridan Gorman's family. But Kathy, I want to start with
you. Can you make sense of Governor Pritzker passing this off and blaming President Trump?
Pritzker is so out of touch with reality and he has blood on his hands. This crime,
this murder was completely preventable and my heart goes out to Sheridan Gorman and her
grieving family. I graduated from Loyola and I know that area very well and I'm also a parent
of a university student and I think all parents are less secure because of the sanctuary policies
by irresponsible leaders like Pritzker. Matt, you know the family personally. You know Sheridan.
Tell me what they're going through. It is a family's worst nightmare that they are currently
living. This is a devastating and senseless tragedy that is leaving our entire community
reeling and we are doing our best to rally around the family, to lift them up, to honor Sheridan
and to ensure that we get justice for Sheridan and we're doing that in a whole host of ways.
People are putting green lights up on their front porches. There's a GoFundMe page and we'll be
coming together at a community vigil this Saturday evening in our town to honor this incredible young
woman. Yeah, just so young. You look at that photo and you just feel for the family and for that poor
girl. Kathy, you know to add insult to injury, Governor Pritzker is not saying anything about
these sanctuary city laws, sanctuary state laws, where this person comes into the United States,
is caught. Border Patrol is doing it. Pritzker goes and he actually lays flowers at a makeshift
memorial for her. He went from Minnesota, I should say, to lay flowers at a memorial for
Renee Good and Alex Pretty, who were up in Minnesota. They were killed in immigration
enforcement lynch shootings, yet he did not put out any kind of statement about Sheridan Gorman
and the shooting of her. Your reaction? Well, the Gorman family said it best. The policies and the
failures of leaders, and in this case Pritzker, our governor for the last seven years, it's just
been deplorable. He is destroying Illinois and he has destroyed Chicago and he's destroying the
American dream of many people who are here by allowing a catch and release policy where
violent criminals, violent illegal aliens are let on the streets and then not apprehended.
He tells the law enforcement to stand down and not arrest them, not to cooperate with
the authorities who are trying to remove them from our country and from our communities.
He is a pure train wreck and I want to applaud Darren Bailey, Bob Fioretti, and Don Tracy. And I
urge all people of goodwill to get out on November and devote Republican for these fine leaders.
We have got to stop this train wreck that Pritzker has begun in Illinois.
Yeah, it goes two ways. So Pritzker finally released a statement about the killing,
but still not showing any inclination towards changing the policies there.
Matt, today they're hearing the family statement from Sheridan Gorman's family,
supposed to be read. Do you have any insight into what is going to be said in that statement?
I don't know the specifics of what is going to be said in this statement,
but the Gorman family has been very vocal in their view of what led to this horrific murder
and the loss of their daughter. And that's failed systems, failed policies,
as the chairwoman just identified. And the Gorman family has specifically cited the inability to
coordinate between local law enforcement and immigration officials that led to the senseless
murder of their daughter. That's direct result of the sanctuary policies that Chicago has in place,
very similar to the sanctuary policies that are here in New York. And ultimately,
this comes down to safety. And if we don't feel safe, the question fundamentally is,
are we really free? And parents and people all over America right now,
we're questioning their safety because of what happened here.
Yeah. Well, Matt, please extend our feelings, our prayers to the family
when you speak with them next. We appreciate your time, both Matt Slater and Kathy Salvey.
You've got a tough job ahead of you in that state, fixing it. Thank you very much.
Thank you.
