Cleaning up connections on my JC-120 amp in an attempt to clear up the hissing.
Hey Gospel Guitarist here and what you're looking at is a disassembled Roland JC-120
amplifier. I just thought I would check out the inside and maybe use Deoxit on a couple of key
components. As you can see these amps have a real reverb, a real spring reverb. From the research
I've done sometimes these inputs and outputs on your reverb tanks can cause noise issues.
A little type of molex connectors can be sources of noise issues. So I'm just going to go through
I've already cleaned the jacks with Deoxit but I'm going to take a little Deoxit to these
molex connectors around the board and see if that has any effect on knocking down some of the hiss
that these amps are known for. I'm trying to figure out you know what it is about these
amps that make them hiss. Now you wouldn't notice it really you know if you're at a concert venue
you're never gonna really hear that but when you're sitting in a super quiet room or studio
and you turn these things on they turn on with a thump and then you know and they're known for
that. So it's not something bad it's just that well I'd love to see if I can't tone that down.
So I'm just going to take some Deoxit to some components and see what happens.
I thought I'd show you in a video here what it looks like inside because not many people
venture to take these apart I guess unless you're amp tech and I'm not going to mess around in here
too much. It's very clean it's there's no dirt to be held in here but some of these you know
multi-cable connectors can be a source of noise so I'm going to treat them because this amp is
several years old and nothing's been done to it except the jack's been cleaned so
maybe that doesn't need to be done but I'm going to do it anyway and see what happens.
But I thought I'd make a quick video just showing the inside of the amp what it looks like and
do some minor maintenance to it and I'll let you know
what what happens after I get reassembled. What you're looking at here is the
pot controls which are those square green units and there's nowhere to spray
any Deoxit inside so they're basically you know you turn them and they keep themselves clean
but I've gone through the amp and removed these Molex connectors and on the boards
and especially this guy this board here is the chorus and effects board
and it has several Molex connectors and some people thought that this is the unit that makes
the noise so I went through this and cleaned it up so let's get it back together and see what
happens nope didn't do a thing do you hear it still there didn't change anything oh well
way it goes still a great amp thanks for watching
