So today, we're gonna show you guys how to make your own homemade chicken jerky treats.
Since the FDA is putting out the recalls from the ones that are made in China and everybody's so
worried about feeding them to their dogs and most people's dogs still really like them, we're gonna
show you how to make your own. It's a very easy recipe, only takes a little bit of time. Some
chicken in an oven. You can also make them in a dehydrator but we're going to show you guys how
to make them in the oven. Because most of you have an oven, not all of you will have a food
dehydrator. So let's go make some treats! Alright! So the first thing we need to do is preheat the
oven to just 200 degrees. We got to cook it low and slow. Next thing you want to do is make sure
if you're using the boned chicken, you have to de-bone it. So I would suggest using boneless
skinless chicken. It'd be a little bit easier and you can usually find it on sale. But either way,
once you get the chicken out of the package, rinse it, make sure it's all nice and clean
and set it aside in a bowl so you can cut it. Make sure you wash your hands too because
raw chicken can make you sick. So wash your hands a lot too. Now that we got the chicken all
de-fatted and de-boned, like I said you should definitely use boneless skinless because otherwise
you end up with a bunch of stuff which we're just going to make chicken juice for the dogs.
And then it says it's best to cut the chicken with the grain to about eighth of an inch to a
quarter of an inch thick. So you can kind of see how thin that is. Shelby, what are you doing?
Jamie's helping me cut the chicken here. So you can cut it into strips and then we'll take all
those strips and we'll lay them out on this pan. And you can either cut them in strips this way
or if you want to get real fancy you can fillet them that way but I think that would be too
difficult. What? Do you guys all think something's going on in here? I think something's going on in
here. Then all we got to do once the pieces are cut, lay them out on the pan. And they can lay
right next to each other or a little bit spaced apart. It doesn't really matter. It's not like
cookies. It's not like they're going to grow. Actually you'll notice they're going to shrink a
little bit when we cook them. So we'll layer them all out on the pan. Are you helping Shelby?
You're such a good helper. And Oakley's helping and Shiloh's helping. Hey don't forget me I'm helping.
And Jamie's helping. He's an awesome helper. So he's the best helper. He's actually using his hands.
You guys are just using your eyes. Your mouth. Shelby are you helping? I think you're kind of in the way
there. She's always the closest too. I'm gonna be right here because if anything falls I'm totally
catching it. Shelby I don't think you can get any closer. I really don't think you can get any closer.
She's trying though. What do you think Oakley? What do you think huh? We got one pan full.
Now we're working on filling the second pan. Chicken. This is so much less expensive than
buying those chicken jerky treats from China. And you know they're safe because you're making them.
No weird additives and any of that garbage that's making everybody's dogs sick.
Huh? That's making everybody's dogs sick? They're so cute Shelby. Now we're gonna put them in the
oven. Look out. I'm gonna set the timer for two hours and we'll come back and check on it. Depending
on how thin you cook the chicken you may have to leave it in for longer. See you'll notice this is
still wet. It's not quite done yet but you notice some of them are starting to get the thinner pieces
that we cut are a little bit harder. Not so wet. So we're gonna leave them in for a little bit longer.
Um you can take them out and flip them halfway through just so that it helps continue to dry
them out. We're gonna put them in for a little bit longer. You can kind of see as it's getting
closer to getting done. Gets a little bit thinner. Changes color a little bit. Well you can see it in
that light. What? You guys think you're gonna get some? Eventually. One of my trays is just about
done and one of my trays is not so done. But you pretty much want to cook it till it looks about
like this. Very dry. Very hard on the outside. Oh almost dropped it. That's about what you want it
to look like. And it pretty much is done. This tray is. My other tray is not done yet. Here's
a couple of our finished pieces and we're gonna see if they like them. Oh you jumping up? You have
one for Oakley. One for Shelby. One for Shiloh. What do you think girls? Say it's better than chicken
treats made in China huh? Better than chicken treats made in China. We know those are good
and a heck of a lot cheaper too. Um you can get boneless skinless chicken breast on sale
and make those and you'll be saving yourselves a lot of money and knowing that they're good for
your doggies. Good for your doggies right? Good stuff huh? Let us know if you guys try making them
and we will see you on Wednesday. Wednesday right? Yeah Wednesday. So we'll see you Wednesday. Bye!
