We choose not to pay to participate in the event this year ($35 per person and it was technically a two day event and we only had the one day). We needed to go for the drive and just get out of the house. So we cruised up to the bridge, checked out the Jeeps, and then hit the back roads all the way home! We also found a geocache while we were out and about. Then back home to the adorable dogs! April 22, 2016 1 Year Ago: 2 Years Ago: 3 Years Ago: 4 Years Ago: We didn't used to only vlog 3 days a week, so some of the year ago videos might be the same from one day to the next, and that's why. :)
Good morning, girls. How are you today?
So the girls already had their breakfast.
They've been out to play a couple times.
Now Jamie and I are taking off to go to the Mackinac Bridge for a little bit to hopefully see a bunch of jeeps.
And if it looks like we've been crying,
it's because we have...
I figure I better get this over at the beginning of the video.
We found out late last night that a good friend of ours, who you guys have actually seen in a few videos,
passed away. His name was Terry and if you guys were around during Halloween and you saw the pumpkin carving videos,
he was the guy that did the like the wood carving on the pumpkins, the relief carving on the pumpkins.
We found out he passed away last night. So Jamie and I cried a lot last night.
So both of our eyes are really puffy and I'm like...
So we're taking off for a little bit today and just getting away from everything and just going for R.I.D.E.
I have to spell it because the dogs are here.
So yeah, we're a little bit sad. We just need to
get out and
clear our minds, huh? All right, you girls be good. We won't be going that long.
We made it to Mackinac, Mackinac City. I don't see any jeeps yet.
I think it's all a lot.
Jamie- No, I haven't seen a whole lot on the way up, but I guess we're going the same direction.
I have a feeling that a lot of the people probably came up 75 and not three like we did.
Jamie- Yeah, unless they were from the smaller areas.
Yeah
Oh, there's a jeep on a trailer right there. There's a jeep. Okay, I found two.
Jamie- He's pulling it off.
Oh, is he? Yeah, he is.
Jamie- Oh God, he's going.
I can't see it.
There's a jeep right there.
There's a jeep.
Okay, so we found some. The bridge crossing isn't actually until 3 o'clock.
So we're here 2 hours 20 minutes before the actual bridge crossing.
We're just trying to figure out where everybody's lined up at.
We're not actually participating because I didn't... It was $35 a person to participate.
Because there's also a trip to Drummond Island after this or tomorrow and we weren't gonna spend the night
and I just couldn't justify spending the $70.
Street cleaner!
For us to just drive across the bridge that costs $5.
So we just decided to come up here and see what was going on instead.
Maybe next year if they do it, we'll participate in the whole thing.
Jamie- Yeah, if we have time.
But we're not, like you said, we're not gonna go to Drummond Island.
No, not this year.
Jamie- It should be nice, but not today.
Not today or tomorrow.
There's a Starbucks. A seasonal Starbucks.
Jamie- Wow, the road is dirty.
Yeah, it is.
All winter long.
You remember when we came up here to see the blue ice at Mackinac?
Now there's blue water.
That's where all that ice was piled up.
There's Mackinac Island.
There's the big giant house.
Such a huge house.
We found more Jeeps.
There's quite a few parked downtown here.
I don't know where they're all getting together to line up.
I like that blue one.
Oh, I like that green one.
Okay, I like them all.
It's like a Jeep dealership.
Which one do we want to buy?
So yeah, there's definitely quite a few up here already.
There's a whole bunch more.
It's a Jeep group.
They're all parked the wrong way.
Oh, I like that black one. That's cool.
There's more Jeeps over there.
Jeeps, Jeeps everywhere.
Well, we found where everybody is lining up
in this field over here.
There's quite a few.
Yeah, there is.
Look, Lake Michigan.
We found it.
Like we didn't know where it was.
It's right across that bridge.
I don't know if you can see it.
Yeah, it's kind of on the other side.
No, it's right on top of the trees.
Right there.
Oh yeah, I see the pole from the bridge.
It's not far over there.
So we're not, like I said,
participating in the Jeep the Mack this year.
So now we're just kind of...
We checked out all the Jeeps over there
and now we're just kind of driving around.
We're gonna check out Wilderness State Park apparently.
I don't know what it actually is.
We found a spot to check out the water
and we were gonna go look at the beach
and then we went...
I see the road right over there is right next to the beach
so we'll probably just drive over there.
Yeah, it looks kind of cold too.
But probably next weekend
we'll see more Jeeps.
Because next weekend is the blessing of the Jeep.
Blessing of the Jeeps.
And I think we're gonna drive over there too.
So we can see more Jeeps probably.
We haven't decided yet.
Rivers, rivers.
Bye Lake Michigan.
We'll see you again.
Look at how shiny Jamie's Jeep is.
The skies are so blue today.
It's a good day to go for a drive.
Actually I think it's cloudy over Albina.
Yeah, I thought so too.
It was cloudy when we left. It was cloudy for a ways on the ride too.
Yeah, this is a really pretty road.
Very pretty.
I like this view.
The road is definitely patched.
Yeah, it is.
We found a really cool dam.
I don't know. Is this a dam? What would this be called?
Yeah, it would be a dam.
Looks like they could...
I don't see any fish jumping though.
This is cool looking.
Look, we found that lake again.
And the campground.
This is the Wilderness State Park campground.
There's a whole bunch of it behind us.
We figured we'd come check it out cause
we've never been out here before.
Could you imagine camping right here?
We're in a camp spot right here.
This would be pretty cool.
But I bet it would be cold.
Cause that lake stays pretty cold.
Depends.
Might be a new place to try coming camping.
So we found a glacial boulder.
Well, we didn't find it.
We found a sign that says there's a glacial boulder here.
So you can read about it.
Pause it and read about it.
And there it is.
We were driving to the park
and we saw it. This is a huge
rock.
Jamie, it looks almost bigger than
his Jeep.
Yeah, I think it's almost as big as your Jeep.
Yeah, I'd say bigger.
That's definitely cool looking.
I'm sure it weighs more.
Yeah, I bet it does.
So while I was out there standing by that rock
I noticed there's a pretty good
path that goes behind it.
And I made a joke to Jamie and I said
there's probably a geocache back there.
It's usually
at pretty neat landmarks.
Yeah.
That's how the geocacher brain of mine is.
There's something really cool right here. We should show it to our friends.
So I do have the geocaching
app on my phone.
And there is one here. And we're gonna go try to find it.
We should be able to find it. I hope so.
I don't know how well this works, but let's do it. Let's do this!
My phone just alerted me.
It says, you're getting close. You're getting close to the coordinates.
Let's check the geocache description for the instructions
on what to do next.
Okay. We better start looking.
I win.
Okay, I'm gonna show you guys.
You can tell we were looking like all in this area.
And then I started to walk over here.
Can you tell where it is?
That's the first thing they gave it away.
I'm like... I don't completely see it,
but I do see that this...
Doesn't belong there.
There it is!
Man, we haven't done one of these
in a long time.
So this is a geocache, you guys.
Yay!
And there's stuff in it.
This one is by Lightkeeper Jane.
Okay, we got the log book.
There's a highlighter.
There's a pencil. Yay!
There's a couple of little things in it.
Pencil.
Yep.
Alright.
We don't have anything to leave. I don't even have any coins on me.
No?
No.
Now we'll log the fact that we found it.
Then we'll log it online, so we can keep track of how many we found.
We need to start doing these again.
These were fun.
When we first started geocaching,
we would actually go and we would get like...
We would do like 20 a day.
We would go to an area where we hadn't done a whole bunch
and we'd try to find them all in a day.
Last year. We're the first ones this year.
Are we? Yay!
Start a new page.
And remember, our geocaching name is now
Gone to the Snow Dogs. Yep.
I changed it. It used to be
Trent and Kitty and then it was
Hiking Huskies and then I changed it
to Gone to the Snow Dogs.
Yay! We need to get more
path tags made.
423?
422.
3. I don't know.
It's Earth Day.
It's Earth Day and we're geocaching.
422.
Yep.
2016.
It's a pretty area. You can hear the
water while standing back here, which is pretty cool.
Can you hear it? Ready?
It sounds so cool.
How exciting.
Check out this road that we found.
What did you say this was?
A marsh?
Protected marsh or something?
A marsh. Ducks Unlimited
and the DNR are working.
That's pretty cool looking.
So it's marshlands.
I'll show you guys this whirlpool.
You can see the whirlpool right there.
Water goes down there
and it comes out over there.
But it creates a perfect
little whirlpool right there.
One way trip for the fish.
That is really pretty.
I should take a picture.
I saw an otter or a beaver of a sort.
Down over there.
Down in the marsh.
Yeah, you should let me take a picture.
Okay.
Found these big giant birds.
Almost by the pine tree.
Wait a second, they're coming right out in front of us.
See the pine?
Oh yeah.
There they come out.
There they are.
They're very curious.
Redhead.
Two of them.
There they go.
Memphis!
We're home!
I know.
We was gone.
Hey Oakley.
How are you?
We're back.
You guys napped all day.
We checked on you on the camera all day
and you were just napping.
Sleepy, sleepy dogs.
It's lunch time.
Can we have some lunch?
Yeah, I guess you can have some lunch.
And now it's time for a short walk with all three dogs.
Memphis keeps seeing a cat that just went by.
She's like, I have to pull now.
Pull now.
She'll calm down in a minute.
Like, this is great.
We're walking together.
Oakley's like, what's over there guys?
What's over there?
Memphis is like, let's go this way.
Shelby's just kind of like, oh whatever.
Shelby, we missed that.
Yeah, you pounced that toy though.
That was so loud.
You gonna wake her up?
Go wake up Oakley.
You gonna wake her up?
I don't even think that woke her up.
Did not even wake her up.
You guys missed it.
Well, I guess you didn't miss it.
We didn't realize she was gonna do it.
I barely asked Shelby if she was gonna wake up Oakley
so they could go outside and she like
pounced at her kennel, kind of pounced in
and made like this loud bark.
And then grabbed that toy and took it.
Are you proud of yourself?
Are you gonna wake her up?
Wake up Oakley.
You wanna go outside?
You gotta tell Oakley.
Come on, tell Oakley you wanna go outside.
Get her up.
Yeah, like that.
Yeah.
Oh look, it worked.
Memphis is like, ow.
You wanna go outside?
Are you telling her?
Oh, what is it?
Are you telling her?
Which way should she go?
Wanna go outside?
Let's go outside.
She's like, how about you open the door?
Yeah, yeah.
Wanna go outside?
Okay, we'll let you go outside.
Look at you with your little crossed paws.
Do you see your little crossed paws?
She's like, I'm just so proper.
I'm so proper.
Do you see your little crossed paws?
I don't know how Shiloh used to do that all the time.
None of the other girls really do that.
Especially not you.
You don't even do the husky curl.
I don't think she can.
I don't think she can bend that far.
You look like you're just ready
to strike up a conversation or something.
You girls are a riot.
Are you girls ready for bed?
Was that a laugh?
She was like, no, I'm staying right here.
Wanna go to bed?
You both look like you're hot.
No? No? Fine.
Why did you follow me?
There's one.
There's two.
Where's Oakley?
She followed me.
She has a treat.
Oakley.
The internet says Shelby's supposed to get it first
cause she makes it first.
I give it to Shelby.
Shelby's always the best about it though.
Like Oakley gets really
upset and impatient.
Memphis kind of gets impatient.
Shelby will just literally sit there and wait.
Sometimes she gets it first.
I think the last time she got it first.
I try to take turns.
I gave Oakley hers first
cause she was here first.
I actually usually give Oakley hers first.
She's impatient.
She'll try to walk through there.
Shelby, we're going to bed, babe.
Wanna go to bed? Come on.
Let's go to bed.
She's like, but you left the light on in here.
We have to go shut it off.
Alright Pawdience.
We're going to bed.
Goodnight.
