Check out my 1981 VW Vanagon Westfalia and all of the Shagadelic upgrades I have made to her! And the best part?...
Hi guys, my name is Molly and this is my 1981 Volkswagen Vanagon. Come take a look.
Here's the inside. As you can see I've decked it out with a bunch of custom trippy decor.
We have some storage right here behind this passenger seat which also is a captain seat
so it swivels around. I've got the little remote for the lights are installed. They have a bunch
different settings on them so you can make them flashy or just on all type of different colors.
I like the multi-color mode because it's the cutest. This rug is typically where I keep
my dirty stuff like taking my shoes off or setting down tools. And this bench is where
I spend most of my time sitting when I'm in the van. It's got this table that swivels out.
So that's nice for when I'm on my laptop or eating. Over here we've got a bunch of storage
and down in this storage bin is the access to the freshwater tank and I'll show you guys
the sink here in a second. We've got a closet for hanging and bigger items.
The iconic fruit hammock of course. Yeah the life hack for keeping fruit fresh in a hot van
is having them hanging in a hammock. Over here is the galley area which has a two burner stove
and it originally had a huge propane tank under the van but I converted it so it uses
one pound propane tanks that are kept in here. This is the sink and I'll be honest I've never
used the sink in this van. I don't trust a 40 year old water tank and also the knob broke off
before I even got the thing so I typically just use a deck pump sprayer bottle. Right here is
the curtains I installed which add a lot of privacy. I actually did all of the curtains
myself and I put blackout fabric inside of them all so at night time when I have all the curtains
shut using these magnets to secure them to the walls you actually can't see in at all. Can't
have any light shining out. There's been times that the cops are literally knocking on my window
and they literally don't know that I'm in here. Up in the driver's area I did a bunch of
customization. My favorite is the velvet headliner, super shaggadelic. We've got the glitter purple
dashboard with the moss installation up front which we will be doing a test drive at the end
of this video. One thing I haven't mentioned yet is this is actually the last van tour that I'll
ever be doing in this van because it is officially for sale! There will be the Facebook market
listing in the description box and this video will be linked on that listing so if you're here
and thinking of buying my van, here it is! The next coolest feature is the pop top. This is like
what the Westfalias are famous for. It adds so much headroom. You actually might want to go right
there while I do this part. You push it up like that and then this middle bar is how you get it
up the rest of the way. I'm a little short so I have to step onto the bench and push with my head
and boom! Now the van is huge! Up here there is where there used to be a bigger another bunk
like a top bed but I took it out because when this pop top is down you actually have like this
much storage area up here which is really nice. This bench turns into the main bed that I use
which honorable mention the big old storage that it has underneath and the two JBL speakers.
It's super easy to convert into a bed. You literally just pull on it
and boom! This is the bed. For being a trifold it's actually really comfy
and I've got my acrylic mirror above the bed. I'll actually film that part.
Yes you will. The acrylic mirror. It's a playhouse mirror makes you distorted.
These boxes back here are actually spare parts for the van such as the complete window rubber set
and some other various stuff like paint matched paint. This is my catch-all storage spot like
anyone who has a junk drawer at their house this became my huge junk drawer. Super good storage
space. I always hang my bath towel here as a curtain because one it lets my towel dry in the
sun and two it's hard to find a spot to hang your towel in a van so life hack use your towel as a
curtain. The doors have windows that slide open and I added these metal screens so I can have the
window open getting good airflow at night. I don't have a max air fan in here and I haven't ever had
a moment where I'm like oh dang I need one because these windows create a nice cross breeze.
All right let's go outside. Coming around back here you can see the 400 watts of Reenergy solar
that I put up there which come into the cabin and they plug into this jackery right here
which you can see right now is at 100% and has all these different inputs you can plug into.
This for some reason stopped working but you have usb ports right here that work just fine
and this tiny fridge which plugs in with the little car cigarette lighter to the jackery.
This fridge though is not one to just leave running all the time it's more like
using for two days at a time or else you'll just drain all the electricity.
Let's be clear the jackery problem is actually a
jackery company problem they don't want to fix it and they know it exists. Yeah we've reached out
to them and they were like oh yeah that happens to people a lot but we're not gonna do anything
about it buying a jackery ever again. Here we have the trap. I always take these curtains
and just shove them up here which also has the jack for the van and it's where I used to store
all of my bikinis but I moved out now so everything's empty. This wall is one of my
big statement pieces of the van. I made it out of all recycled cds.
Oh shimmery. That project was a ---- show.
This is where I store all of my clothing. These shelves are great for acting as your closet
slash dresser but I know a lot of vanagon owners use this as basically their garage so tools,
the engine is under this bed. Should we show them the engine? Do you want to show them the engine?
Show them your engine Molly. Show us your engine. Yeah take it off.
Oh also the jackery has all of these extra things that I'm throwing in with it. You can charge it
at home too if this isn't your home or at walmart. Charge it at home. Use walmart's electricity.
Charge it off of the cigarette lighter of the van even. To get into the engine I always just
lift the cushion up this way and it stays just fine.
Yeah we cleaned that thing. We've spent way too much time touching this thing.
Later in the video I will give you guys a full rundown of all the work we've done on it.
That's nice. That's nice. All that nice stuff here. Yeah that looks great Molly.
**** yeah let's buy it. Yeah I actually also have all of the mechanic receipts from overtime which
to be honest I have put well over 20 grand into this van and it is now for sale for a mere ten
thousand dollars or best offer. Okay right here we have the fresh new exhaust we just installed
last week. This port is where you put in your oil and you know if you need to do the timing of the van
this engine has gotten a lot of love the past couple years. It has a fresh clutch in it just
installed this past December slash January. Fresh hydraulic system. The oil leaks were repaired.
New starter. I could go on for a while. New distributor cap and spark plugs. Alternator?
Rebuilt alternator. Like I said I've got all the mechanic receipts so whoever buys the van you'll
get a thorough history including the receipt for the rebuild that happened about two years before
I bought it. Now coming around this side these are the hookups for the camper features which I don't
ever use because this one would be to plug in to electricity but I'm more of an off-grid style.
I'm not going to like campsites and stuff so I've got solar and the jackery and then these two ports
are water for the sink but like I said I don't use the sink. Here is the driver area. Up top there is
luggage rack. I think I got there. I can't see what I'm doing here so you'll have to...
You wanted that cinematic right?
This is the luggage rack if you need to store things. There's little tie-downs to hook stuff to
and this window actually opens all the way so when the top is popped you can access the luggage rack
from inside which is nice. We just got done swimming in the ocean and I realized I forgot to
show you guys one of my favorite additions I put on this van. The neochrome headlights.
And wait till you see them at night time because they actually do change color. Those look *******
sick. So I can change the color just like you know pick one color at a time or there's different
modes. Okay this will definitely get me stopped by the cops if I have it ******* blinking and
flashing. I'm just playing with this. I'm just playing with the setting still and I could pull
a ************ over with this one. Oh see this is what I would like. This is probably the setting
that I will just have them on which you can slow it down. So if I just have like a real slow morph
through the different colors I won't draw like draw too much attention from the cops
or distract people on the road. I'm so happy with these. Go action. These are actually new
river mirrors I put on or side mirrors. We got the groovy seat covers, the groovy carpet.
And now the moment you've all been waiting for is to hear her purr.
Look at it start right up. Fires right up. That beeping noise is because the door is open.
So I'll give you guys a and then here I'll show some of the inside. I did a custom steering
wheel cover which is kind of shredding up and falling apart but it just adds to the boho vibe.
A bunch of moss up there, a chili flare and some adornments.
So this is the vibe at the front. Got some moss in that little porch. This van has 184,032 miles
on it. This is a little cup holder I added. Here's where the e-brake is. Voila this is how you get
the captain's chair turned around. Makes this a nice chill lounge area and since we're about to
do the test drive I gotta put the pop top away. We put the pop top away by pulling on this bar
and then carefully lowering it down. Once it's mostly down, this is like the Westfalia move
that everyone does. You use your head to push it up and then roll the canvas
because you want to make sure that none of it is trapped and hanging out where it's exposed to the
elements. And an extra step that some people do but I think it's essential, using clips to keep
this in place or else it's just like hanging out in your van and then there it goes. Pop top complete.
You guys could get another good look at the attic space if you come around this way. I am able to
store a lot of stuff. It's like six inches maybe? Yeah. iPhone fits almost vertically.
Yeah, store a shotgun in there. It stores all the shotguns. All the shotguns in Hawaii.
And that snaps right into place so that is the tour of the inside. Now we'll get on to the test drive.
Action. All right get it fired back up. Right here we have a pioneer stereo head
Let you guys get a listen. Listen to that exhaust.
These old Volkswagen's are so fun to have. Every time I drive around, including on our way to film
this video, everyone's always taking pictures of me as I drive by. Coming up to me being like yo
sick rig let me see inside of it. They're super fun. I will say that they are a lot of maintenance.
Do not go into buying a Volkswagen if you're not prepared to be working on it. I've owned this van
for over three years now and lived in it for two of those three. Although the van has had
its breakdowns, everything that has broken down so far has been fixed so hopefully most of the
kinks have been worked out. I got the dirty part done so whoever has it next I hope you have a
great ride. Like I said earlier we're asking 10 grand but totally open to offers. I'm actually
leaving to Big Island tomorrow to go get in my new van so whoever buys it you will be contacting
Rainbows for it through the Facebook post down below. If you're someone who's interested in
buying this and interested in becoming a YouTuber or maybe you're already a YouTuber, I will literally
fly my happy ass back from Big Island to meet with you and vlog the sale. But if you're just
wanting to buy the van and want to stay private about it, no pressure. I will leave the
signed title with Rainbows so it'll be an easy trade-off. So yeah I hope you guys enjoyed my van
tour. It's the last ever one that I'll be doing in this van. The next van tour I do will be in my Dodge
B250. One thing I forgot to mention is that the engine in this is a 2 liter air-cooled
and a Thor manual speed shifter. But yeah I think I got all my bases covered now.
This is surreal that I might actually sell this thing like within the next couple weeks. I'm
hoping this sells within the next couple weeks so I can go buy my farm, the moon farm.
So yeah I love you guys and until next time, van on the ******* moon!
