Are you dealing with any crazy weather or flooding where you live right now? Let us know in the comments how you and your dogs are staying dry! It is another day of crazy flooding here in Northern Michigan, and things are getting a bit wild in our neighborhood! We are taking you along as we check on the house, the basement, and our local walking trails. We actually found water in our well room downstairs, so Jamie has been running the pump on a timer to keep the basement dry. It’s a constant battle against the water right now, but we are feeling very lucky compared to some of our neighbors and family members who are dealing with finished basements full of water.
In today's vlog, we head out to see just how high the river has risen. We usually go biking and even jump off the bridges in this area, but right now, the water is so high that the bridges are almost touching the road! We even discovered a "waterfall" where the river is rushing over areas that are usually dry land. The Siberian Huskies, Memphis, Kira, and Eleanor, are definitely wondering why their favorite walking paths are currently underwater, but they are still finding plenty of mud to get into!
Despite the soggy conditions, we managed to get a mile-long walk in with the pack. We check out the local "Scitec Park" area and see the incredible power of the rushing river. From sandbags at neighbors' houses to hearing the spring peepers loud and clear through the floodwaters, it’s a day we won't soon forget. Life is short, make memories with your dogs—even if those memories are a little bit muddy and wet!

There they are!
Did you hear the static in her howl just now? That was weird. Well, good!
Wonderful!
Beautiful! Big stretch! The wonderful beautiful morning Pawdience. Oh my goodness!
What do you think? What do you think? I didn't... I didn't wipe my hands on my pants.
I don't know what your deal is. Some of you are probably wondering about the flooding.
Can you... Thank you for the woozle. If you can look straight up the road there, you can see it's flooding over the road!
Way back over there in our neighborhood, which is a little bit crazy. As of yesterday,
we have water in our well room. We have a little room downstairs. That's like... I'll just show you.
You guys don't see our basement very often.
This is our little cellar area and then under here is what we call our well room, because we do have a well that
we use for the backyard and
we have water in here. Now, yesterday the water came up to this second step here.
It would still have to come up over a foot to actually crest into the basement.
I actually think this little well... Notice it's a gravel floor.
I think this little well room is the only thing that is saving our basement from actually being flooded.
So we have the pump in here. Jamie's running it on a timer because it just keeps filling back up.
So we're pumping it,
letting it kind of take a break because we don't want to kill the pump and then he turns it on again.
So that's a...
That's where we have water right now. The rest of our basement floor is dry. We don't have any hydrostatic pressure.
We do have a few cracks in our floor. The house was built in 1959, but we don't have any hydrostatic pressure,
which that's when the water seeps through the cracks in your basement floor.
And I again think it's because all of the water is going into that well room. So as of right now,
we're still good. My brother who you guys know lives up the road. He's still good.
He doesn't have water in his house, which is good.
My parents are doing good. They're on Lake Winnia, but they're past the big dam.
But it's... The lake is getting high, but it's got to still come up quite a bit before it actually crests into my parents house.
Jamie's not here because his grandma who lives
like a mile that way from where we are, her basement is flooding.
So his uncle and his stepdad called this morning and asked if he could come help. So he's over there. They're tearing all...
She has a finished basement. So it's got full carpet, drywall or paneling or whatever it is.
But it's a finished basement.
So they're going over there and they're gonna start tearing stuff up and try to get the water out of her basement.
Everybody around us has water in their basement. We are so lucky that we, as of right now, knock on wood, do not.
This is one of those we walk our dogs.
We've been walking the dogs.
Everything over here is...
flooding.
Like flooding, flooding. Look at this.
It's just full. Oh my gosh, there's... I don't know if we can see that. Hold on. There's nobody behind me. I'm backing up.
Look straight through there. There's a house back there.
Way back there. I think they got some water coming up to their...
their driveway at least.
There's just so much water. Right in the corner here. All right here.
And then...
Apparently...
It goes back that way too. We are not going that way. Not a good idea. He's not under there.
He already got out before you came out. I know you saw him, but he ain't out here.
So as of right now, it is not raining, but it is supposed to rain today.
It is not supposed to rain tomorrow and then it is supposed to rain again on Saturday.
So I hear a woodpecker over there somewhere.
So that's what we're dealing with. They think squirrel friend or chipmunk friend went under there. He didn't. I told you, he took off.
So yeah, our ground is squishy.
It's not soaking up too much water.
We're...
We're okay right now. Oh, where you going? Bird.
He's like, whoa, bird!
That woodpecker over there is going... There's a cardinal. I don't know if you guys saw it.
He's on the backside of my neighbor's tree.
He's over there somewhere. Big bright red cardinal. I gotta get some food back in the feeders.
All the birds are coming back.
Hey, why are we digging into mud?
That's gonna be so muddy, Eleanor. Nope, there's the water pumping out of the basement. It's trying.
Jamie did pump some of the water into the sandpit and then we realized that probably wasn't the greatest idea because somebody would get all muddy.
Gee, I don't know who.
Did you find a birdie?
Yeah, you chased another bird when you came out here. Memphis didn't want to come outside this time.
She said, no, I'll hang out inside. That's great.
I did want to show you guys yesterday.
Jamie and I walked around on some of the places where we normally go biking and got a little bit of footage.
So I guess we can insert that here so you guys can check it out.
Well, this is our narrows.
Small body of water on a river.
As you can see the bridge, we normally jump off that bridge, but it's uh, it's usually a pretty good drop.
Oh, it is collecting debris.
There's a big culvert right there.
You can normally walk under that bridge, but the water's a little. Yeah, look at how close they're
right up to their house.
And it's probably in it.
So we came down to the river just off the bike path.
SciTech Park is up there. There used to be a tree right here and you could swing out into the river.
It is gone. And we've also, this is so crazy how much this is rushing right here.
We have also noticed that the water, I don't want to get close to this edge,
is now flowing into what used to be a little island over here.
And if you kind of come down this path, which Jamie rode his bike down here last year,
Hon, I don't think you're riding your bike down here.
No.
It doesn't look that way.
No.
Yeah, normally that's a little peninsula.
Yeah, there's like a little island down there and and it goes all the way back. It connects right to it.
Wow.
Yeah, I think the whole island is.
I'm pretty sure the whole island is underwater.
Yeah, as you can see.
Maybe we'll go up further and see where the trees are at the point.
Alright, we'll have to do that.
This is crazy.
That explains why it's like sugar sand down there though.
Yeah, sure does.
Wow.
Hey, we got a waterfall right there.
Oh look, we found a waterfall!
We're in the game!
So right...
There.
That's normally like a little...
Peninsula.
Peninsula that we could get to from where we're standing.
And uh...
We are not getting to that now.
Not at all.
It is very flooded.
Yeah, what are we doing? Let's go get the kayak.
We'd be flying on a kayak through this.
Down the waterfall and the rapids.
Okay, don't fall in.
Don't fall in.
I'm gonna come back up this hill.
Don't fall in.
I kind of want to go out to that edge.
But I'm not going to because I know it's not intelligent.
So instead we'll follow this little path here.
And then we'll show you guys.
There's houses over there.
That guy.
Looks like he's fighting water from going in his basement.
This is so crazy.
The bridge at SciTech Park,
which is over there, I'm certain is underwater.
We'll have to walk that way.
And check it out.
Okay, I should probably get away from the edge of this.
Wild.
Look, ice tree damage.
Yeah.
Look at the river is almost up.
Maybe not almost.
That's still way higher than normal.
We're gonna go see how far we can get.
Not very far.
No, it doesn't look like it.
Oh, this bridge is good?
Okay, we might make it across this one.
Look at this. That's water.
I should say watch it break
when you stand on it.
And then,
there's more water over here.
Is that a culvert bubbling through?
Bubbling up.
We're down.
This is the first little bridge area
that we ride the bikes on.
Let's not walk over there.
You know what? I do hope this is happening though.
I hope this is drowning all
the baby ticks.
Look, Jamie!
Wait, didn't people just come from this direction?
I think they came to check out the bridge.
Oh, and then turned around?
Wow!
I don't think we're biking across that.
I don't even know where the path goes.
Well, it goes under the water.
Hey, at least it's not flowing fast.
Wow!
That's true.
Hopefully, everything will stay.
This is about how deep
it was all those years ago,
which I don't have any video footage of.
Shelby and I came through here when it flooded like this one time.
And we rode right across that bridge
and about this deep of water.
Because I was wet up to here on my bike.
I know the reflection...
Yeah, the reflection makes it look weird.
It does look weird, but
that's gotta be halfway up the rail.
Yeah, it's at least halfway up the rail.
So, we'll go back to this rail
that's the same exact rail as behind us
and see how deep it actually is.
So, this rail is the same
as the rail on the bridge that's underwater
back there.
So, yeah, go stand next to it.
Because the water is probably
about that deep.
Yeah, I would say at least that deep
on that next bridge.
Crazy!
This is...
This is flooding
in Northern Michigan.
Most of Michigan is flooding though.
It's not just us, it's everybody.
This is cool looking though,
with the trees and the swampy water.
Kind of feels like a movie.
Can I see the bridge from right here?
Don't fall in the water!
Oh, there's some cement here.
What used to be here?
Yeah, they put the old city cement here to stop erosion.
Oh, good job!
I can't see the bridge from here, but it's over there.
Yeah, it's all along these banks.
Alrighty then.
Going this way.
I do believe that in the 97 flood
that was all the new concrete.
Oh, it could be.
Maybe some of it washed away.
From City Hall or something.
To kind of stop the erosion.
I see my Jeep! It's right there!
And it was supposed to rain today.
But I don't think it's going to.
I hear that woodpecker over there.
Still.
I don't think it's going to, which is good.
A lot of stuff is drying up.
Slowly.
It is supposed to rain all day Saturday.
The more that can dry up before Saturday,
the better for everybody.
I don't understand. One more time.
Do you
want to go
for a walk?
You want to go for a walk?
You had all those words a half a second ago.
There they are!
Did you hear the static
in her howl just now?
That was weird.
It was like...
It could have just been me.
It could have also been something else,
but it sounded like for a half a second
she had static in her howl.
You want to go?
I heard you woo too.
Ok, let's go.
Let's go!
You got to go.
Get down.
Stompy is in everything.
Ok, let's go.
Oh my goodness.
Are we going to go check out our normal spot
and see if it's still flooded?
We might have to.
Elmer is yelling.
We made it to the curve. Maybe she'll chill out.
Oh my gosh, I just saw more bugs.
Warm enough for bugs.
I think we stopped by
my brother's house.
The kids were having dinner,
so we didn't want to make a whole bunch of noise.
If we made a whole bunch of noise,
they'd want to stop having dinner
and come out and say hello.
We tried to be quiet.
I don't hear them.
And Stuart didn't see us,
so he didn't ruin it.
That was my next concern.
Stuart is going to see us and he's going to come running.
Everybody's grass is turning super green.
Gee, I don't know why.
It sure has nothing to do with all the water everywhere.
Oh, here you go, Elmer.
Your chair is still here
from the other day.
Want to check it out?
Ok, come here.
Let's see what you think of it. Ready?
Let's see if you still like it.
Ok, get up there.
It's a little wetter today.
She's like,
Oh, the chair's been sitting here too long?
There's mail on it now.
Is there mail on the chair?
There you go.
Want to take it home?
She's like, doesn't mind.
I love it.
You are goofy.
She's like, look out dad,
I'm coming around you.
You're right, hun.
I don't know if we're going to move
or if we're going to have to turn before.
Guess we'll find out.
Might be a little flooded.
That's a little flooded.
She's like, I don't care.
We're going through it.
It was over the road here and now it's not.
You can see
how far out it came.
It looks like we might have a little path
to make our normal...
Peek back here.
You can see their house back there.
We've been walking down.
Yeah.
Lower.
Kira's like, I'm checking this out.
Checking all this out.
They must have had water come in their old garage.
She's got the sandbags up there.
The water was all the way up to her house.
It makes me wonder
if Meyers
and by the high school and all that
because that's where
the lake or drains to get to the river.
But there's no...
That little creek behind
the credit union.
That's this river
whatever it used to be.
I know, they're having so much fun.
Yeah, look up there.
This is wild looking.
That's just great.
We're not playing in that mud.
That's a lot of mud there.
This isn't too bad.
This is at least mostly clean water.
But that's mucky, gross water.
We're not going that way.
Well, they did it. Even Memphis did it.
A full mile.
She's gonna sleep pretty good for a while.
One full mile, but she did it.
She's a little shaky.
But she did it.
She didn't really limp the whole walk.
So that's a good thing.
Then we had to turn the fan on.
Not the AC yet, just the fan.
Oh, I feel like they're even louder tonight.
Can you hear that?
Spring peepers.
Normally we hear them only in the front of the house
but since everything over that way is flooded
we can hear them back here as well.
Right?
So they're saying no rain for tonight.
It's supposed to get foggy.
It's clear right now.
You guys can't see the stars, but I can.
It's supposed to get foggy.
It's supposed to stay clear.
It's rained the past couple of nights.
So that's a good sign.
Hopefully the water will get a little bit lower.
That's what we're hoping.
Because it is supposed to rain Saturday.
It's dark out here.
I'm gonna go ahead and call it a good night out here.
Alright, thanks Loud Truck.
We were trying to listen to the peepers.
Eleanor! Come on!
Alright you guys, we hope you enjoyed today's video.
As always, thanks so much for watching.
Thanks for subscribing. Stay positive, dream big
and we will see you again soon.
Say goodnight, Pawdience!
