There's nothing like visiting a beach in a new country.
The beaches in Honduras will definitely not disappoint.
Honduras boasts 470 miles of coast across the mainland and islands.
With so much shore, you're bound to find your perfect spot.
Some of these gems are top-rated by major travel magazines.
In this video, we're exploring the best beaches in Honduras.
We've rounded up the absolute best spots for you.
So be sure to add these to your travel bucket list.
Starting off at number 1, West Bay Beach, Roatan.
West Bay in Roatan is truly the picture-perfect Caribbean getaway.
And one of the finest beaches in all of Honduras.
What's not to love about pristine white sand?
Calm water, epic sunsets, and snorkeling right off the shore?
It gets busy when cruise ships arrive, but you can easily
escape the crowds by heading to either end.
Number 2, Water Cay, Utila.
Soak up the sun on the sand or just lounge in the sea.
At the west end of Utila, if you're craving some action,
the snorkeling and scuba diving here are world-class.
Perfect for seeing vibrant tropical marine life.
And for real adventurers, go swimming with whale sharks.
It's easy, since Utila is the whale shark capital of the Caribbean.
3. Chachoate is home to a small Garifuna community.
In the Chaos Cochinos archipelago.
It's a top-tier beach.
With stunning white sand and sparkling water.
Ready to go?
From the mainland to Roatan or La Ceiba, then a boat ride.
It's best done as a day trip from Roatan or La Ceiba,
as lodging on Chachoate is limited and basic in the fishing village.
The best time to visit is February to September.
2. Trujillo beaches.
Christopher Columbus could be called the first tourist to visit Trujillo,
landing here in 1502 on his final voyage to the new world.
He found beautiful white sand, crystal-clear Caribbean
water, and the deepest bay in Central America.
Not much has changed 500 years later, though there are more tourists.
You'll still find beaches great for walking,
wading through nearby rivers, and beachcombing with the jungle as your backdrop.
5. Mahogany Bay, Roatan.
If you've cruised the western Caribbean, you've likely been to Mahogany Bay.
Several cruise lines dock on Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands, 65 kilometers off the coast.
Mahogany Bay Beach, owned by a cruise company,
offers white sand and turquoise swimming water.
Roatan sits on the world's second-largest coral reef, so expect some exciting
snorkeling and scuba diving here.
Anglers can try reeling in tuna, marlin, mahi-mahi, and barracuda.
6. Chaos Cochinos.
If you've ever wanted to go island hopping, Chaos Cochinos is the place to be.
It consists of two small islands and 13 coral cays or tiny sandbars
that form this Caribbean archipelago.
The reefs are part of the world's second-largest system, making Chaos Cochinos
an ideal spot for snorkeling and diving.
If you prefer to stay dry, there's always swimming, sunbathing, or just plain old
relaxing to keep you occupied.
7. Guanaja Beaches.
Guanaja is one of the Bay Islands, about 70 kilometers off mainland Honduras.
A highlight is the city of Guanaja, known as the Venice of
Honduras thanks to its winding waterways.
The water is crystal clear and part of a massive coral reef.
It is an incredible spot for snorkeling and diving.
Columbus first discovered cacao here back in 1502.
The essential ingredient for chocolate.
Number 8, Tila.
Located on the northern Caribbean coast,
Tila is surrounded by sweeping beaches with warm weather year-round.
Palm trees sway over white sand, with turquoise water reaching the
treeline at high tide.
Tila is the go-to spot for holy week.
If you're bored of the beach,
check out the nearby nature reserves like Punta Sal,
home to monkeys and mangroves.
Tila's image has improved, thanks to
the dedicated tourist police.
Number 9, Omoa.
You will find that the white sand and sunny
blue water make Omoa a total winner.
This town was once the top Caribbean port in the colonial era.
Perfect for history buffs.
You can walk to the 18th century San Fernando Fort or
just relax on the sand, swim, sunbathe and watch the boats
resting on the shore.
You can even spot playful dolphins swimming offshore or in the harbor.
Coming in at number 10, it's Sambo Creek.
Just 21 kilometers east of La Ceiba,
Sambo Creek is a charmingly rustic Garifuna fishing
village, set against a stunning tropical forest.
It's perfect for a swim and you can catch the local Garifuna community performing.
Traditional Punta dances right on the sand every Sunday.
But there's even more to explore.
This river mouth beach is your gateway to incredible snorkeling
and diving in the Chaos Cochinos archipelago.
Nearby, you'll find hot springs and
a mile-long zipline, reached by a scenic 40-minute horseback ride.
