You asked, I'm here to answer. This is a Q&A answering your toughest questions
about car sales and car sales training.
The following broadcast is brought to you by Cars Unlocked.
Welcome back to the channel here guys. For those of you who don't know me,
my name is Christopher and I've been selling cars for about 12 years and I get a lot of
YouTube comments on my car sales training videos. So I decided I'd go through and
answer these questions right out of the gate because if someone is commenting this,
I'm assuming if you're in car sales, you might have the same question.
So with all that to it, let's jump right into our comments here and our questions.
If you guys have other questions you need answered, put them in the comments and I'll
be sure to answer them in my next training video or vlog. But let's get started.
Thanks so much for the valuable content on YouTube. I've never worked in sales before,
so I don't have any experience in this field, but I've been seriously considering choosing
this career path. Do you think having general knowledge about the automotive industry is
necessary to work in it or isn't enough to know the specifics of the particular car brand you
work for? I get this question all the time guys and thank you Natalia. Very simple. The answer
is no. You don't need to be a car expert to work in this industry. You don't need to know the brand
at the dealership you're working for. I started working at a Nissan dealership and I had never
even been inside of a Nissan before. It was a brand that I've never really sat in, never was
familiar with, didn't know the whole history of the brand, but I learned as I went on. So don't
let that discourage you. What you need to be able to do is you need to be able to make quick
connections with people, you need to be able to talk to people, you need to be able to build trust
quickly, and you need to be able to manage your time effectively to sell the most cars. So thank
you Natalia. Next one. I live in a very navy area with lots of sailors. Any recommendations
on reaching out to these people to generate potential sales? That's a great market to target,
you know, especially if you work at a dealership that's selling a lot of trucks. I would reach out
to the marinas because if they have a boat, they most likely have a truck that is required to tow
the boat. So very critical. I would certainly recommend you do that to generate sales. You can
go set up a referral code with one sailor and say, hey, if you talk to me about any of your friends,
refer me, that's a great way to do it. You can just walk the marina, pass out business cards,
you can find forums that are people local to, like if it's a specific marina that you're trying
to target, you can see if that marina has a Facebook group, you can offer them discounts,
incentives, and encourage them to buy cars from you. So that is a great idea. Comment number three.
I'm surprised that you're allegedly making sales from your Instagram because that ---- is super
dead. Props, I guess, because it looks like you put in a ton of effort and energy into all those
Instagram videos, but that doesn't make them any less dead. Thanks so much for your kind words,
Minecraft, Surge. The Instagram is not so much to get a sale, like you're not going to find very
often that people are going to call you and say, I saw your Instagram video and I want to buy a car
from you. That doesn't happen as often as you would think. How it helps you generate sales,
and this is why I recommend in my Cars Unlocked Academy program that every car sales associate
does some sort of social media posting, is it allows your clients to get to know you from a
personal level, lets them to get to know what kind of person you are. It allows you to provide them
content and information on a video basis versus just talking to them on the phone. And it also
allows you to keep them fresh in your mind. So if I'm consistently posting social media stories,
reels, TikToks, YouTube videos, and people are seeing it, they might not be buying a car today,
but in six months from now, or a year from now, or two years from now, when they're looking to
buy a car and I'm the top one in their Instagram feed, they might be wondering, where do I go?
Where do I get started? Allows you to build trust, build value with your clients and build referrals
as well. That's the value of the social media. It also allows me when customers have questions,
Hey Chris, I'm having trouble connecting to my Android auto. How do I fix that? Instead of me
being like, Hey, come in and I'll fix it for you. I say, listen, I made a YouTube video solving this
exact problem. Here it is. And that allows me to offer more value to my clients. And that's what
you should be doing. A quick word from our sponsor. This is the AutoCast AutoFlow. This is a
real product that people are going to actually use. It's a plugin and play add on to your car
that promises wireless connectivity, better screen experience without having to replace your whole
head unit in your car. There's very little wires. There's no dealership install. It's just straight
usability. If you're thinking about upgrading your car's connectivity, the AutoCast ScreenFlow
is definitely a great choice. This one I confidently recommend. I will drop our coupon
code in the description below. Use our link and you can jump to it right on the website. Binge watch
your favorite shows, the Bridgertons, the Love is Blind, all your favorite shows you can watch
right on the screen here. And now back to our show. All right, let's move on to the next comment.
My name is Joshua. I'm new in the car business. I work at a Chevy dealership. If you were to start
over, what is one thing you would do to be successful? Great question, Joshua. Thanks for
commenting. I get this all the time. If I were to start over right off the bat, I would say
specifically I would be more diligent with my database and my CRM. The database is crucial
to your referral business, your portfolio, and your repeats. I didn't start really dialing in
to my CRM and using my CRM efficiently until I was like about three to four years into the
business. And I feel like I could have snowballed quicker if I would have been more accurate with my
CRMs. Try to keep a history of all your stuff personally and just be diligent with the CRM so
that two years from now, three years from now, four years from now, you can start calling your
customers back. Thank you so much for the question, Josh. Next one here. Hi, Chris. How are you? I've
been watching your videos and learning a lot on what a car salesperson does. I'm 59 years old and
very interested in becoming a car salesperson. I've been reading the OnVic textbook on the website.
I live in Waterloo region. Is there any advice you can give me? Take care. Thanks, Kenneth. Shout out
to Waterloo. I'm from Waterloo. Not too far from where we are here in St. Catharines where the
vampires hang out. My advice to you would be complete your OnVic and you'll learn as you go.
You'll grow as you progress. The sooner you get started, the quicker you are to growing.
If you're thinking, oh, I'll get my OnVic next week, I'll get my OnVic next year, I'll get my
OnVic next month, go get it. Start applying to dealerships. Once you land a job at a dealership,
they'll switch your OnVic over to that specific dealership. I would recommend that that's what
you do. This is another funny one that I saw at CrawleyWilliam1. Become the house mouse around
manager's offices. Bring him coffee and donuts. Also buy him lunch twice a week. Most important,
slip him 50 bucks cash for every mini deal he slips you. Believe this. This happens in all
dealerships. I kid you not. Honestly, Crawley, if this happened where you work, you might not be
working at the right place. Based on my experience, you don't need to give the managers free donuts.
You don't need to give them any money. You don't need to give them coffee for them to give you
free leads or auto trader leads or even house deals. What you need to do to get those leads is
you need to be effective on those leads. If you're the best person at your dealership at responding
to internet leads, when your manager gets an internet lead, who's the first person they're
going to give it to? They're going to give it to the person who's the best at them. If you have the
highest customer service rating and they have a house deal, who are they going to give it to?
They're going to give it to the one who has the highest customer service rating. At dealerships,
it's up to the manager's discretion who gets which leads, but if you are the best and most
effective at doing them, you are going to get the most leads. Do we have a problem? No, sir.
No, Mr. Mills. No, Mr. Mills. Oh, that's good because I thought we had a problem for a minute
there. Last one here. I saved the best one for last. Will be starting my first job in car sales.
Spent the last 1.5 years in the medical marijuana industry and the best closer for six months. Was
hired on the spot with zero interview prep. Is Andy Elliott a good person to emulate or not?
You're playing casual. You got to wake up and get focused.
Yes. Andy Elliott's a great person to emulate. I'm going to say it flat out. He's been an
inspiration for me when I first started in car sales. I learned a lot from his sales training
videos. Now, as time has gone on, there's a few things that he's done that I wouldn't do.
The way I feel about it, if you come on sometimes with that high now, now, now energy,
I'm going to give you the best deal possible no matter what. Come down, come down, come down,
come down. If somebody kidnapped your family and said they were going to kill them if you
didn't sell 40 cars, could you sell 40? Be aware of the situation and gauge which
customers need that hard close and which customers need a softer close. Every car sales trainer,
every manager you have, every person who educates you, you have to take the good with the bad and
you need to absorb the good and deflect the bad. Even with me, you can do this with me too. If
there's things that you don't agree with that I say, deflect them. I just want to smack the
hell out of you. Do I live my day like him and do I talk to customers like him? Absolutely not.
I've taken some of the stuff that he has taught. I've added it to my till boat and I've tailored
it to my own approach to make the most effective me and that is what you should do. On my last
vlog video, I put a contest out. Anybody who comments free in the YouTube comments is going
