Hi everyone. Happy Monday. So I really do hope you've had a good start to the week.
So today's video, if you'd watched yesterday, I mentioned I was going to pop down to the
thrift stores down in Stockbridge here in Edinburgh, Scotland, just to see if there's
any new bits that have been put out. Because I haven't been here for just over a week because,
as you know, I was in Canada, Toronto for seven days. So anyway, it's good to be back.
And please enjoy the video and please leave any comments below what you think,
if there's anything that you fancy, that you've taken to, because there's lots of stuff.
So anyway, hope you enjoy the video. So here we go. This is on the way down to Stockbridge,
going down Northumberland Street. I thought I'd just show you some of the buildings,
if you've not come across my channel before, and this is your first time,
you can see the beautiful Georgian Properties buildings in Edinburgh, Scotland. Even though
it rained today, the sun came out, still a nice day. So just walking down towards St. Stephen's
Church. That's obviously on the way down to Stockbridge to the first shop, or the first
store, the Bethany store. But yep, there's a nice flower shop over there. They do nice plants.
And here's the Bethany store, just looking in the windows. Like I said before, I haven't been
here for over a week because I've been away. So I was quite excited to see what I might find.
Just looking in the windows on both sides. All right, time to go in. Straight to the back,
where the bric-a-brac bits are. Having a quick look around. So I'm basically just showing you,
obviously, what kind of things are on offer if you come to Edinburgh. There's new and old stuff,
not just new stuff. Yep. And again, just looking around because you can never tell. Some prints.
If you can, please leave any comments below what you think. If there's any items that caught your
eye in this video. Just look in the cabinets. I saw that nice painting, as you can see.
It looks a lot like Cholston or possibly Savannah, Georgia. It's pretty cool.
Just look in this cabinet. There's a ceramic badger. I've never seen one of those before.
And some figures. Lots of blue and white bits. All right, let's get to the next store.
But first we've got to go over the Stockbridge Bridge. You can see it's very green. Just looking
over the side. It's quite quiet today, which is quite handy. It's easier to get around the
stores and film. There's less people around. So this is the Deborah charity shop. I'm just
having a look outside first before going in. I spotted this box, not very old, 12 pounds. You
see that's a bit too much for that. It's funny because some of the new bits will be overpriced
and then the really old bits are quite cheap. So this box is only 15 pounds. It looks to be like
a cigar box. It's missing its catch on the front, unfortunately. Right, time to go to the next store.
Bernardo's. Yeah, some Edinburgh crystal, even though it's got the Made in France stickers.
So that's quite interesting. And some vintage jugs. So just showing you the maker's marks on
the bases. So they do actually have age to them. They're not modern type ones. Lots of teacups and
saucers. See, they're only nine pounds for that. I think that's pretty good value. Hey there.
Yeah, some silver plated tea and coffee pots, sugar bowl. And yeah, very interesting. Right,
on to the next store. That's just basically showing you the prices. Here's some bohemian
glass that I noticed in the window of the same store, the Bernardo's store. You can see, very
nice. The price is pretty good. I mean, that whole lot for 45 pounds. Here's Scout. Let's look in the
windows. So like I said before, previous videos, Scout's more of an antique shop rather than a
charity store, but you can still get bargains in there. And the owner's pretty friendly.
Right, and I'm going to show you a little bit of Stockbridge now, if you've not seen my videos.
Yeah, like I say, nice and quiet today, less tourists, so it's easier to film in public.
Showing you the cafes, pubs. It's a nice framing shop, some paint, paintwork and artwork in the
windows. Nice forest. And here's a cancer research charity shop I'm just about to go into.
Straight to the back, an interesting goblet type of ceramic that's been painted gold
or copper. A very nice Mary and Joseph and Jesus ceramic decoration, obviously for Christmas.
Just looking around, something that looks like sugar spice pots, whatever you want to put in
there. And a little bunny and it looks like a blue tit and a, I don't know what else, a mouse.
It's a nice plate. It's not very old, but the train does look old, the train engine.
And now this is a 1903 storage glass vase type thing. Now I think that's reproduction,
but still nice. You could put coins in there, store coins or whatever, marbles,
whatever else you want to put in there. Hey there, and a gold plated coin, bits of jewellery,
and those Moorcroft vases are still there. Right, let's go to the next store,
which is only a couple of doors down. It's a Save the Children charity shop.
Again, straight to the back, where all the bric-a-brac is, just to show you the prices and
what kind of things are. Like I said, if you come to Edinburgh, there's always stuff being put in
the stores. So it's not like a case of, you know, you turn up in Edinburgh and you're worried that
you spend all that money, you've come all the way and then there's nothing.
So if you come for seven days to two, two weeks, basically there'll be stuff
because they put stuff in every day, basically down in Stockbridge.
So you won't be disappointed. Right, onto the British Heart Foundation store. And of course,
there's a big market down at the Ocean Terminal. Now that's on a Sunday morning.
So just showing you the jewellery, lots of jewellery and bits. Now there's another market
on the, if I remember, it's the last Saturday of every month. It's in the Dalmany
Hall. So that's down Leith Walk. So if you want to look that up, it's worth going to.
And that's like a free market in a hall, obviously, selling clothes and antiques.
So yeah, just looking at the figures, all sorts of items. And yeah, that market's called the,
it's actually the Drill Hall on Dalmany Street off Leith Walk. Just came to me now, the Drill
Hall, because they used to drill the, one of the Scottish regiments used to drill there
around the First World War time, ready for battle. Unfortunately, that regiment,
they had a train crash, unfortunately, and most of the soldiers died in the actual train crash
on the way down to France. So a lot of them didn't even get to France to fight in the trenches and
they died in the train crash. So bit of a tragedy, that one. So if you, like I say, that Drill Hall
is pretty good for antiques and things. Last Saturday of every month. So I spotted this
Victorian pewter litter jug, just to show you some other bits. Quite a nice Welsh souvenir
of two Welsh women with their spinning wheel. It's a traditional Welsh
costume they're wearing. I did study at Cardiff University, in case you didn't know,
and that was quite a good time there. It's a nice place, very friendly people.
Some antique centres there as well. If you come to the UK and you can do maybe a tour,
go to the Cardiff, check out the antique centres. There's a train up to Edinburgh.
Right, on to the next store. So it's the Heart and Stroke charity shop.
Straight to the back, some very nicely gold painted milk jug and a teapot,
for any of those posh people out there who want to look extravagant for tea time,
and a couple of silver plated copper candle holders, and they're genuine Victorian ones.
So I'm just glad to be back, seeing really old stuff, compared to what I saw in Toronto.
And some modern looking pop art, like ceramic mugs and saucers. That's a bit overpriced for
that Indian engraved brass bowl. At the local market you pay like a pound for that, a couple
of pounds max. Right, on to the next store. It's a shelter. Just looking in the windows first.
Some old kitchen scales. Let's go in and have a look. So as you can see, it's piled up. There's
quite a lot of stuff all over the store. So that's a musical box now. It's not old at all,
but it was quite cool. It worked when I opened it. And that's inside the actual counter,
the front desk counter, and a random ceramic chicken. Not really, I've got no idea what
that's used for. If you do, let me know in the comments. Right to the back, they've got a little
section at the back with some pictures on the walls and other little bits. They tend to have
more toys in this little section at the back of the store. So I thought I'd show you this metal
compact with a little mirror, obviously. A couple of mirrors. And onto the next side of the store.
Hey there. Nice needlework book, three pounds, and a contemporary aluminium.
Interesting, like an ornament with a chain-like stem, obviously. Could be for holding anything
from a candle to loose change, whatever it is on the top there, like a bowl. So let's go.
Well, that's it. Thanks for watching the video. Please subscribe if you haven't,
and enjoy the rest of your week. And yeah, until next time, because
there will be more videos this week. I've still got to do some of items that sold recently,
and put what they sold for, obviously, and what I paid for them.
So thanks again for watching, and yeah, enjoy the rest of your week.
