This video is about Euphemisms. They are words that replace very harsh and offensive ones so that you don't sound direct and rude. In this video, Mr. P./Marc will give you some examples of them. Try to use them on everyday language. They are very useful and you will sound very polite when speaking English. This lesson is explained in Italian. The lesson is intended for students of the English language who have acquired an intermediate level or above.

Hello there.
How are you today?
This is Mark.
If you are buying a used car, you are buying a pre-enjoyed vehicle.
If you are poor, you are economically disadvantaged.
When talking about the elderly, it's better to call them senior citizens.
In this lesson, we will talk about euphemisms, also called soft language, in English, of course.
Euphemisms are words that replace those direct or offensive words towards a person or a situation.
Allora, abbiamo dato degli esempi introduttivi.
Per esempio, if you buy a used car, you are buying a pre-enjoyed vehicle.
a pre-enjoyed vehicle.
L'altro esempio che ho dato, if you are poor, you are economically disadvantaged.
quindi economically disadvantaged.
Poi, ho dato l'esempio delle persone adulte, no?
Effettivamente.
Quindi, genuine imitation leather.
Attenti.
Invece del bagno, noi diciamo restroom or washroom or the ladies' room or the gents' room, ok?
Ma non bathroom, che sarebbe il bagno.
Abbiamo altri esempi.
Quindi, noi usiamo il phrasal verb to pass away.
Invece di dire beer or liquor, noi usiamo adult beverages, ok?
Now, let's recap.
Physically challenged, for example, or senior citizen, big bones for overweight and so on.
If you want, you can write your own euphemism under this video.
I hope you enjoyed the lesson.
If you did, please share it and I'll see you next time.
Take care.
Bye bye.
