We've got much more on that air quality alert across the Hudson Valley. A smoke
from wildfires in Canada blanket our region. News 12 Lisa La Rocca is in
Yonkers for us this morning talking about those conditions. How's it out
there this morning? At least in the five o'clock hour, you know, it's it's not
quite as warm as it was yesterday at this time, but the air is thick. I was
just saying to my photographer john, it's it's just kind of it's thick as
you're breathing and of course that's because of that smoky air and there's
more than 800 wildfires burning in Canada and that's coming down our way
and that's what's causing all this. So take a look though uh at these the
drone video over Yonkers. I mean you can see those hazy conditions that's
caused by that smoke coming from Canada mixed with the high temperatures that
we're experiencing. Now this is causing very unhealthy air conditions. We've
been looking at levels of 1 50 to 200 under the D. C. Air quality index
guidelines in our area and 0 to 50 is what's considered good quality. So this
means everyone could experience health effects, especially of course people
with breathing issues and it's likely many of you have already been
struggling since yesterday. Now health officials uh say that these tiny solid
particles of liquid droplets that are in the air right now, that's the big
concern and exposure to it can cause short term health effects such as
irritation to the eyes, nose, throat and shortness of breath. Everybody should
really take precautions out there and understand what level of activity that
they can do based on their own personal knowledge of their fitness and their
capability. Now really the best thing you can do while we're experiencing
these conditions is stay indoors. And of course if you're somebody who has
problems with breathing asthma, that kind of thing, then you really just
need to stay and keep the air conditioning on until this all goes
away. So hopefully that's going to be soon. But again, right now, like I said,
the air is kind of thick, but it's not like it was yesterday afternoon, but
we'll see what it's like as we go on through the morning. We'll of course
keep you updated. We're in Yonkers Westchester County. Let's go back to the
studio.
