Okay, before y'all yell at me, I have something absolutely ludicrous I need to cover that I saw
on the internet. This could be the most crazy thing we've ever presented, could make you all
mad at me, and that's okay. I will take that burden. What am I talking about? Well, stick
around, you're gonna find out. Hi, welcome back to another episode of Padres Digest with your host
Andrew. Today we're going crazy. Today we got some rumors that'll blow you away. You might have
guessed it from the intro and the graphics, but am I really that crazy? Find out. Before we get
too deep into the video though, please subscribe as always. Follow us on Instagram, Facebook,
Padres Digest, and yeah, I guess let's just jump into it. Someone on X made me aware of this. This
is an East Village Times article. Dodging the Reaper, an unthinkable trade of Mason Miller
to Los Angeles. And I don't mean the angels, that Los Angeles. Guys, calm down, calm down,
calm down. Let's talk about it. Let's use our heads, let's use our voices, let's talk about
it like adults before you all come at me. Let's look at Mason Miller first, right? You guys know
Mason Miller. Mason Miller's cool, right? Closer for us, ERA below one. I was told today that his
ERA plus 100 being average, his ERA plus is 400, over 400. That's how good he is. Statistically,
the best closer in baseball right now, not just on the Padres. Club control through 2029,
arbitration eligible 27 through 29. This isn't a rental. San Diego gave up a consensus top five
prospect in Leo LeVries to get him last summer. Getting him back cost at least that, much more
probably. But what does it take to get Mason Miller? This is a hypothetical scenario. This
is who they presented in the video or in the article that I'm presenting into the video.
There's a lot of players. First, the Dodgers' number one prospect, Josue? Joshua? Josh,
Joshua? Vipala? He is a guy who has a 3-10 average, 929 OPS, 16 home runs, and 26 stolen
bases in AA. He's having a monster season. He has a Soto slash Alvarez style approach,
but limited defensively, kind of like a DH kind of guy. And then Zaire Hope, the number three guy,
outfielder in AA as well. 287 average, 21 home runs, good stolen bases, MLB ready power bat
right now. Some swing and miss in his game, but a legit corner outfield profile. Yes,
they're in AA, but we are also in need of some outfielders on this team. So
maybe this could be a good thing for us. River Ryan has been a prospect for like 80 years.
He is 27 years old. Was on our team, and then we gave him away for Matt Beatty,
so maybe this will be revenge. But he's working back from Tommy John,
133 ERA in his brief 2024 MLB look. But he's still a prospect, and he's still good, right?
Jackson Ferris, number 10, currently getting lit up in AAA, but he was the 2024 minor league pitcher
of the year, but rough AAA debut this year by low flyer. We've had a real risk right now.
I'm going to say this so wrong, and I'm so sorry. Ching
Sangco? Sorry, so sorry. Outfielder in single A, 19 years old, but a 268 average, 16 home runs.
The lottery ticket, he's still years away at single A, but already tapping the serious raw
power at 19. And then the big name, Roki Suzuki, 24 years old. Has not great ERA this year,
but he's still somehow better than most of our pitchers. 18 games started, 94 strikeouts, 93.2
innings pitched. He's not a prospect. He's more of a reclamation project than anything.
Most hyped NPB arm in years, probably since Otani, or Yawamoto, I guess, but still hasn't
found it in LA. Change of scenery under Niebla? I have been low key teasing the idea of getting
Roki Suzuki, but what this means, this is a complete, not just an NL West switch up,
this is a league altering move. The Dodgers are getting Edwin Diaz back soon,
but if we were to give them Mason Miller to take all their best products, all of their best
prospects products, arms, do we hate that? We're getting their top prospects, and the Dodgers
are always going to repunish their farm, that's how they are. And we can get Roki Suzuki, who we
always wanted originally. Yes, he hasn't turned out the way we all thought he would, but let's
not pretend like we all didn't not want him. Didn't not want him? We all wanted him when he
was a free agent. So why not get him now, at the cost of Mason Miller? Because we're all, I see the
comments, I see you guys saying, why do we have a closer? We can't use the closer if we're losing
all these games. Well, take these outfield prospects, take Roki Suzuki, maybe we'll win more
games. But at that point, maybe we don't have a closer, but we still have Jason Adam, we still
have, if we don't trade Adrian Morihone. Like, this trade, on paper, does kind of make sense.
And I don't hate it. But we have to make one thing very, very, very, very, very clear.
The Padres and the Dodgers, they kind of hate each other. And it's already been reported.
The new Padres' ownership reportedly hates the Dodgers and likely wouldn't trade them Mason
Miller, despite them having the assets for him, per an anonymous NL scout. We don't blame them,
via Randy Miller. I know Christian's done a video on specifically this topic.
But, AJ Peller is a crazy man. Dodgers are crazy in general, and like getting,
they're like assembling the affinity stones of baseball. Mason Miller is one of the infinity
stones of baseball. Sorry to make a Marvel reference. But can the Dodgers and the Padres
make a trade in the Big 2-6? Because I don't think, I think the division's definitely out
of our reach. Playoffs, I think, are barely in our reach. Are you willing to, I don't want to say
guarantee the Dodgers another World Series win, but are you willing to risk the fact that they
might three-peat by giving them the best closer in the game, and maybe one of the best closers in
history, just to rebuild your farm? Are you okay with that? Because, listen, these players are
nothing to scoff at. Sniff at? Turn your head to? I don't know what the phrase is. But all of these
players, for one guy, would definitely make up for us losing Leo DeVry. 100%. And JP Sears has
proven to become better than expected. So, the best closer of all time. Obviously not, but we'll
say it anyways. And JP Sears, who might become solid for Leo DeVry. And if we can then flip
Mason Miller for six top players from the Dodgers, I'll include Roki Suzuki in that, so six top
players from the Dodgers, maybe that's worth it. Is it possible? Probably not. But who do we have
as GM? Mason Miller wasn't even on my radar last year, and we picked him up. He was not on anyone's
radar for the Padres to get last year, and look what happened. So, if he was to go to a team,
and it was a team that I specifically hated more than anything, I would love to fleece the ever-living
crap out of them. And this seems like a trade that would fleece the ever-living crap out of them.
But ignore the fact that this exact trade is just speculation. Do you think this is enough for Mason
Miller? Or do you think that we would have to take less from the Dodgers? Or are you crazy and you
think the Dodgers need to give us more for Mason Miller? And finally, do you even think this is a
possible trade that we should even conceptualize? Or should Andrew shut up, stop making these videos,
because they make me sad? You let me know how you feel, because this one's a crazy one. Please don't
hate me. But yeah, thank you guys so much for watching. Please subscribe as always. Follow us
