He discusses the development of younger players, his own increased confidence following a National Championship appearance, and the versatility required by the coaching staff to master the offensive line.
Four days in now, how does it feel to be back out there with your teammates and
playing left half?
I mean, it feels great.
It's truly a blessing to be out there coming out for
everything I faced, facing the good side on that.
What have you seen from some of the younger guys, guys, the freshmen,
the guys who are going into their second year,
just what have you seen from them and how they've grown since spring?
I've seen great flashes and great things they continue to work on.
Every day we're showing up and we're working on detailed things.
I'm seeing great stuff from them.
For you personally, what would it last for me for you to finally have a consistent
role in the offense and to do something to build upon going into the winter?
Honestly, it was quite fun.
I feel like I had a lot of fun last year and I got to build on a lot of great things
and build my technique and have a bunch of confidence.
I was lucky enough to go in the playoffs, play in the National Championship.
So I'm taking all of that and just taking it to this year and
my confidence is very high.
And then with Jackson, we've seen him play a bit of guard here in the fall.
He has seemed like more of a traditional kind of tackle body shape.
How has he done playing guard?
He's done very great.
I mean, the thing about Maraball, he's always gonna work you everywhere.
Just like he worked me at guard first and moved me to tackle.
So he's gonna work you everywhere so you have a better understanding of
the whole offense maneuvers and
you have a complete understanding so you can play 100%.
Do you have a preference where you play?
Not really, I love to play anywhere.
As long as I'm on the field, I'm truly happy.
What does it mean to you?
I mean, it's a blessing.
I came here, I believe in the program, so I stay with the process.
It's truly a blessing to see it continue to rise each year.
I assume where the program is now is what Coach Cristobal was telling you guys,
where it would be three, four years ago.
What's it like to see that everything that he said,
I assume, kind of start to come true?
I mean, like I said, it's a blessing.
I mean, I saw the work from my freshman year to now.
Everyone just dialed in when I was here with CeCe and
when I was here with Bane, even though I'm here now with Matthew McCoy.
I see everything, the work we put in every day, every day.
Definitely paying off.
I mean, it definitely is great.
It's great to be a leader, and it's definitely good to lead by example.
And I definitely have to talk more than I did last year, so it's great.
What's it like going up against the edge rushers when you practice?
Damon, Mondo, Marquis?
I mean, it's great.
I mean, you got a bunch of rushers who do a bunch of different things.
So you get to work a lot of things.
You get to master your technique, and I feel like it's pretty great.
Awesome, thank you, Samson.
Thank you.
