Samson Okunlola on No. 7 Miami's Offensive Line Performance After Week One
Sep 9, 2026
Hey Samson, how's it going?
How's it going, Gray? How are you?
Doing pretty good.
So yeah, just looking back at Friday,
how would you evaluate how you played at left tackle
and just how the line did overall?
I mean, we did pretty good.
Overall, we just need to get better.
We need to master our basics.
We got to chase and finish more.
We're just trying to grow as a group.
All right, we'll go to Jordan and then Anthony.
Hey Samson, two questions for you.
First off, obviously I know you're focused on what's in front of you,
but what was it like being there for Darion
and watching how he was able to operate behind you?
I mean, it was quite fun.
It's quite fun to see your teammates succeed and do great.
I mean, it's fun to celebrate a touchdown.
I mean, it's just fun to be around your teammates
and have great teammates around you.
And I wanted to ask you specifically about Jackson and his debut,
his first game as a freshman.
How do you feel like he held his own?
Yeah, I mean, he did pretty well.
I mean, he's still working on things he needs to work on,
just like I am myself.
So he's just growing as a player.
All right, Anthony, we'll go to you next, and then Darryl.
Hey Samson, sort of to follow up on that,
not just with Jackson, but also with some of the other guys
that are filling in, just how have you seen them
sort of get into the mix, get more comfortable
with a new offensive line?
And just how long do you think it could take
to build that chemistry with the new line?
And, of course, improving in pass protection and run blocking?
I mean, with the young guys, they're doing very well.
I mean, I see them putting extra work in,
putting extra time in.
I see the effort.
I see everything they're doing.
I mean, building chemistry, you build chemistry overall
as a person every day.
So we're doing everyday things to build chemistry
between one another.
And we're growing every game.
I mean, growth is never stopping, so you never stop growing.
All right, Darryl, you're next, and then Jordan.
Samson, how you doing?
Samson, you came out of high school rated really high, a five star,
and it's been a process to get you to the point
where you were Friday night and you look really good the other night.
If you were speaking to five stars coming up,
some of the kids coming up, explain to them some of the process
of becoming a D1 starter and the things that you've went through.
I mean, football's fun.
Football's fun, and definitely football's a little bit hard as well.
You just got to have a lot of resilience and believe in yourself,
so just keep pushing.
All right, Jordan, you'll wrap us up?
Hey again, Samson.
Just curious with the short week that you guys have,
obviously flying back Friday into Saturday to get back here
and then a Thursday game, just how are you guys handling the short week
and doing what you need to do to be ready for FAMU?
I mean, we're handling it very well.
I mean, the coaches have set up a system in place for what we need to do,
how our practice is scheduled,
and we're watching as much film as possible.
So, I mean, just like us, as detailed as possible.
All right, Adam, we'll actually wrap it up with you.
Yeah, just one more quick one from me.
Just, you know, how excited are you to be back at Hard Rock on Thursday
and, you know, be back there for the first time this season?
I'm very excited.
You know, first home game of the season.
I'm very excited.
If you want to know this week, I'm very excited.
All right, appreciate you taking the time.
Good job.
All right, thank you.
