Polls close tonight here in Connecticut at 8 o'clock, and two longtime incumbent Democrats
are facing challenges by more progressive members of the Democratic Party.
So all eyes on these races.
Now Democratic Governor Ned Lamont is running for a third term.
He has been socially liberal but fiscally conservative.
He is currently leading in the polling, however, he's facing an uncommon challenge by Connecticut
State Representative Josh Elliott.
If Elliott pulls this out, it would be seen as an upset.
I spoke a short time ago with the Capitol Bureau chief for the Connecticut Mirror.
Representative Elliott, he's a 10 year state rep.
He is not affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America.
He is just running as somebody who is trying to push the governor to the left.
Governor Lamont is a fiscal conservative, social liberal.
In his eight years as governor, the state has had some of the strongest pro-labor laws
passed in the country, including one of the highest minimum wages.
Well, whoever wins here tonight will face Republican State Senator Ryan Fazio in November.
You should know, though, that Connecticut is a strongly blue state and has not elected
a Republican governor since the late 90s and the last time a Republican governor was
in power was 2011.
Another race to watch is Hartford, first congressional district there.
Another incumbent facing a challenge by four different candidates, all younger and far
more to the left.
So Connecticut is being watched as are other primary races around the country tonight.
Political pundits hoping to get some kind of insight as to what is going to happen at
the midterms in November.
