Beneath the moonlight of an ancient temple, two hearts meet across a quiet garden.

Inspired by The Romance of the Western Chamber by Wang Shifu, this first part follows the beginning of Zhang Sheng and Cui Yingying's love story—from their first encounter and exchanged glances to poetry, moonlit gardens, growing longing, and the quiet awakening of love.

The music draws upon the refined atmosphere of classical Chinese poetry and opera, using guqin, pipa, guzheng, xiao, dizi, konghou, ruan, and sheng to create an elegant world of gardens, temple courtyards, moonlight, flowers, and distant music.

Inspired visually by The Complete Illustrations of the Story of the Western Chamber, the album unfolds like a traditional handscroll, allowing each musical scene to reveal another moment in the lovers' journey.

This is the first half of a two-part musical interpretation of The Romance of the Western Chamber, centered on encounter, beauty, longing, and the first stirrings of love.
