He said that your first day filming felt like a first date.
Have you heard that?
No.
He said it.
My bicep retracted to my shoulder, so I had to have surgery.
It was pretty rough and I won't, you know, I'm going to spare the details
because there's a lot of details that I'm sure people don't want to hear.
I couldn't wait to just get in there and excavate this character
and discover who this man is, what he represents and what he stands for
within the context of my truth in portraying him.
And also what a joy it is and an honour as well.
Aaron Bier, welcome to Heart.
How are you, my darling?
Thank you so much.
I am wonderful this morning.
How are you?
I am very good, my love.
Congratulations on Lanterns, by the way, coming out in full force
and the DC Universe as well.
It's time to get up, junior.
All right, new lesson.
Take the ring.
You fly.
Just fly.
I'm sorry.
Fly, please.
How are you feeling about getting the call-up for this one?
Oh, I mean, it was a beautiful moment.
It was a dream realised and, you know, I say this a lot.
I immediately recognised the enormity and the magnitude of this responsibility
and I felt it.
I felt the weight of that in the most healthy way, you know.
I think also in equal parts married with that was just this immense excitement
and energy and passion that I have for the character and I just enjoy.
I couldn't wait to just get in there and excavate this character
and discover who this man is, what he represents and what he stands for
within the context of my truth in portraying him.
So what a joy it is and an honour as well.
I think this is more than just a feeling.
This is a threat no one's ever seen before.
What do you know about Manhunters?
Where did you hear that word?
So when you looked at that script, you looked at the character,
you fell in love with the character.
Yes.
What was your first reaction when you actually got the part?
Where were you and what were you doing?
Take me back to that moment.
Where was I?
Wow, when I actually got the role.
I think I was just, I think I was doing something very normal.
I think I was in my apartment and I got the call from my team
and every time I've gotten a major role in my life,
I've always been doing something seemingly just very calm and relaxed and normal.
And that, in my opinion, makes it even more special
because I've always been in a context where I've been able to really understand
the magnitude of what's just happened to me.
You know what I mean?
So it's been a joy.
It's been a joy to go from project to project
and be working each time on projects that I'm deeply, deeply passionate about.
Do you resent Pal Jordan?
Jordan's just keeping him warm.
In my opinion, subjective opinion,
it would be wrong for me to do anything other than pour myself into this opportunity
and give everything I can.
I'm throwing the kitchen sink out.
I think I've fallen in love with you now.
What are you doing to me?
Thanks, babes.
No, thank you.
No, really, thank you.
I mean, this interview's not going to go very well, is it?
I'm all over the place.
Now, let's talk about your partner in crime, Kyle Chandler.
Now, listen, I've heard that he said-
Have you met Kyle yet?
I haven't.
I really want to, though.
I love Kyle.
It would have been great to have the both of you together.
It would have been chaos.
Something, yeah.
Now, he said that your first day filming felt like a first date.
Have you heard that?
No.
He said it.
How did you get that chemistry?
How do you do it?
Do you go out and have dinners?
Do you stay at each other's houses?
How does it work to have that chemistry?
That's a really great question.
I mean, the first time we met was-
I think we had done maybe a little bit of-
Gosh, it was either the table read,
or we had done some workshopping around the table,
just table work.
Either way it goes.
The first time we met,
I knew immediately that I had a partner.
I had an outstanding, collaborative, creative partner.
That was off the bat.
I knew that immediately.
But what does take time
is developing a friendship for anybody.
That takes time.
It takes time to learn somebody,
to understand somebody,
to comprehend somebody and their experiences
and how that led to who they are today,
et cetera, et cetera.
We didn't rush that process.
We allowed that process to be organic,
and it was a beautiful, beautiful experience and process.
And now Kyle and I are very dear friends.
That's a brother of mine.
That's amazing.
Sometimes our friendship leaks into uncle and nephew.
But for the most part,
it's a brotherly love thing.
When I do become his nephew,
I know I'm his favourite nephew.
My replacement.
In brightest day,
in blackest night,
no evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship be this night.
Now what's all of this I hear about
there being a major injury whilst auditioning?
What happened?
That was a really pivotal moment for me.
I train a lot.
I had a moment where my tendon
separated from the bone entirely.
Wait, but how?
What were you doing?
I was training and it just went.
My bicep retracted to my shoulder.
So I had to have surgery.
It was pretty rough.
I'm going to spare the details
because there's a lot of details
that I'm sure people don't want to hear.
I found out that I had my final callback.
At that time, it was the final two, three, whatever it was.
My team called me and they said,
listen, are you in shape enough?
Are you fit enough, healthy enough to go in here
and audition for the role?
You're in the final stage.
I said, of course, no question.
I'm going in.
So I went in there with my brace.
I had no supination, pronation.
I had one of those things
that you have to increase the degree
that you can extend your arm
over the course of six months or whatever it was.
I just went in there with my brace
and we had a blast with it.
That's the way my brain is wired anyway.
But there was a moment where I went,
what would Jon Stewart do?
Jon's going to get the job done.
You know what I mean?
So I took inspiration from him.
It's you.
You're actually talking about yourself.
You are it.
I took inspiration from Jon big time for that.
Now, I do want to know
because this is a little bit of fun.
So with the Green Lantern Ring,
if you could do one boring everyday task,
just take it from you,
what would you give it?
A boring everyday task.
I probably do mopping the floor
and hoovering the floor.
There are some tasks I really enjoy.
I really enjoy doing laundry.
I really enjoy making the bed,
putting fresh bed sheets and pillowcases.
I like that.
When I have to hoover and mop the floor,
because of the way my brain works,
I can't do one without the other.
I need to hoover and I need to mop.
It needs to be in that order.
It's not my favourite thing to do.
So that's what I would get it to do.
No, I think that's a good too.
I would have chosen ironing.
I don't iron anything.
I have an iron and an ironing board.
I never use it.
Decoration.
It's just there.
It's there if you want to use it.
That's my guess.
Exactly, amenities.
Enjoy.
I love that.
Right?
That's perfect.
Thank you so much for coming in.
Thank you so much.
So excited for everyone to see lanterns as well.
So yes, we adore you.
I appreciate you.
Thank you so much.
Yes, please.
I would love that.
