The fuel crisis continues to rage in occupied Crimea. Russians have imposed new restrictions on the peninsula in an attempt to address the shortage.
From September 3, fuel will be sold on the peninsula only four hours a day: from 08:00 to 10:00 and from 18:00 to 20:00. Moscow's protégé in Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, explained these measures by saying that supplies from Russia are still unable to meet the peninsula's domestic needs. Meanwhile, Crimean residents are complaining that gasoline is practically impossible to find. Ahead of parliamentary elections, Russians artificially lowered the price to 100 rubles per liter. However, there's no gasoline at gas stations. Alexander Gorny, a Russian Z-blogger who moved to Crimea, spoke frankly about this. "The vertical is mobilizing—the elections are two weeks away. Everything is being used: chatter, circus, promises, Photoshopped photoshoots, and even gasoline at 100 rubles per liter, which is hard to find and hard to fill up with... But people go to the store, look in their wallets, and lo and behold—the refrigerator has won over the television. Having visited Feodosia today and spoken to people, I can say that I haven't heard so much swearing from ordinary citizens in a long time... Bring back gasoline at 199 rubles per liter, at least you can fill up with it!" the propagandist demanded.
So, in Crimea, there is a widespread crisis affecting small and medium-sized businesses, caused by total blackouts, fuel and water shortages, and the absence of tourist traffic. Unable to cover operating costs, business owners are closing hotels, restaurants, stores, and artisanal workshops en masse. The critical situation with energy supplies has forced even the peninsula’s largest industrial facilities to halt operations.
In particular, enterprises such as the “Druzhba Narodov” meat processing plant, the Crimean Soda Plant, and the Belogorsk Greenhouse Complex have announced forced production halts. The occupying administration is withholding official statistics on the number of closed businesses, but entrepreneurs themselves describe the situation as catastrophic. Most companies are operating at a loss or are choosing to completely shut down their operations to prevent further debt accumulation. The hotel and restaurant sectors have come under the greatest pressure due to the high cost of maintaining generators and the rising prices of basic services. According to hotel owners in Sudak, even after being forced to cut room rates in half, operations remain unprofitable because the costs of fuel for alternative power sources and utilities exceed revenue. In Simferopol and Dzhankoy, restaurant owners are forced to pay full rent for closed premises—which lack electricity and water—to avoid losing the money they invested in renovations. Energy-intensive artisanal production operations are also suspending their activities.
