In the Silence of the Arhats | Praises of the Arhats Ambient Music

In the silence of ancient mountains, sixteen Arhats sit beyond words.
Inspired by Su Shi's Sixteen Praises of the Arhats, this long-form traditional Chinese ambient suite explores silence, wisdom, compassion, emptiness, and awakening through the contemplative imagery of the sixteen Arhats.
The visual companion is Sixteen Arhats by Yan Hui, a Yuan-dynasty master known for powerful Buddhist and Daoist figure paintings.
Rather than creating ceremonial or dramatic Buddhist music, this album follows a quiet Zen-inspired aesthetic: sparse guqin, xiao, xun, sheng and other traditional Chinese instruments, long pauses, restrained melodies, distant temple bells, mountain wind, and the silence between sounds.
The music gradually moves from contemplation toward stillness, reflecting the spirit of Su Shi's verses—where words become silence, forms become emptiness, and wisdom appears in the space between thought and sound.
