Woomp, there it is, and woomp, there it goes.
It never feels good to be the last person picked for kickball,
and the same goes for being the first person kicked off dancing with the stars.
Spoiler alert! That honor for season 35 goes to
Connor Leavitt from Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
On premiere night one, the male contestants danced to a number one song
from the year they were born.
Sadly, Connor and his pro partner, Adele Zakeman,
only scored a 12 out of 30 for their salsa.
But in the end, he was a gracious loser.
This has been the most fun.
I have the greatest dance partner in the world in Adele.
I can't wait for the world to get to see her talent.
And on the plus side, Connor's more famous celebrity doppelganger
is Charlie Cox, a.k.a. Marvel's Daredevil.
Anyone else see it, or is it just me?
Well, Connor isn't the first Mormon Wives cast member to compete on the show.
In fact, his wife Whitney Leavitt came in a much more respectable
with her partner Mark Ballas.
He's won three Mirrorball trophies.
Whitney went on to land the role of Roxy Hart in Chicago on Broadway,
with Mark by her side as Billy Flynn.
Dancing with the Stars continues Wednesday night
with the ladies performing chart toppers from their birth years.
It's a stiff competition this season, and there's already backlash
about the not-so-fair talent discrepancies among the cast.
Here's what we reported earlier this month.
I mean, it's like I say, I mean, I own it.
Of course, like, I have a dance background.
Of course, I trained in a whole different way.
But this is a challenge for me.
I mean, one weekend, and I was like, okay, this is a whole different language.
That's the big elephant in the room.
Again, it's not the first time we have a celebrity with dance experience, obviously.
Talking about advantages, that's my biggest advantage.
That's our biggest advantage.
My biggest advantage is that I get paired up with this incredible human being
that beyond the dance floor, that's what I'm excited to showcase.
That was Jenna Dewan and her partner Val Shmierkowski
opening up about the backlash from fans
after it was announced that she's joining the cast of Dancing with the Stars.
Fans are claiming she has an advantage
because of her more than 25 years of dance experience.
And Jenna Dewan has even worked with Val before.
The two were seen here back in 2019 promoting Fox's Flirty Dancing
that she hosted and he choreographed.
Dewan gained fame starring as the lead in the 2006 dance film Step Up.
She co-starred with her now ex-husband, Channing Tatum.
And even before Step Up, Dewan was booking professional dance jobs.
She was a backup dancer for Janet Jackson on the All For You Tour.
Dewan also appeared on Lip Sync Battle where she performed alongside Paula Abdul
showcasing her professional dance experience.
And if that wasn't enough, Dewan also served as a host and mentor
on the reality dance competition show World of Dance
where current Dancing with the Stars judge Derek Hough was also a judge.
The two appear to be close, and Hough will be scoring her Dancing with the Stars performances.
Keep in mind, Jenna Dewan will be competing against absolute dance beginners
like Jimmy Kimmel Live's sidekick Guillermo.
So yeah, fans are saying the competition is unfair and it hasn't even started yet.
And get this, Jenna Dewan isn't the only new cast member with a professional dance background.
Former Glee star Harry Shum Jr. will also be competing with a ton of dancing under his belt.
Like Dewan, Shum Jr. is also a professional backup dancer and choreographer.
He's even gone on tour with Beyonce, sharing this funny snap of him in the background
on tour with Queen B back in 2004.
He also performed with Dancing with the Stars co-host Julianne Hough,
seen here doing a Beauty and the Beast-inspired dance routine for ABC.
But fans have even noticed something more and are alleging favoritism.
That's because married pro couple Jenna Johnson and Val Shmierkowski
both received partners who are seasoned dance professionals.
So we'll have to wait and see how the fan backlash affects the upcoming season.
The show kicks off with a two-night premiere on September 15th and 16th.
In the meantime, stay tuned to Page Six for all the latest on Season 35 of Dancing with the Stars.
