London's Lost Riverside: The Palaces Buried by the Embankment

Between the medieval period and the Victorian era, the south side of the Strand was lined almost without interruption by the grandest private residences in England, each one facing the Thames, each one reachable by royal barge. Then, in the summer of 1858, the river turned against the city that had built a civilisation on its banks. What followed was an engineering project so vast it physically moved the Thames. This documentary traces what stood on those riverbanks, what happened inside those walls, and what was buried, silently, under decades of Victorian granite.
