While three turnovers and a fourth-down stop were pivotal to the game, the defense struggled with missed tackles, misfit run plays, and an inability to capitalize on opponents who were behind the chains.
How concerning was that defensive performance, would you say?
I look at more just some of the individual
breakdowns. We also had to play with a lot of different guys in the secondaries.
We had some guys go down throughout the game that weren't available.
I thought we were just kind of untimely as a defense really. The
picks were huge. It's hard to underscore how big those turnovers were really
with the fourth down stop. We caused three turnovers.
That is obviously significant.
I like our good, but when we get teams, especially behind the chains,
we got to do a better job of making them pay. That's kind of when
the game is in your favor defensively. That's when we were at our worst today.
We got to be better at that and we got to do a better job just some of the explosive plays in the run
game. I don't know, there were probably two runs that really got out, maybe three
the entire day and they probably averaged a couple yards of carry on everything else, but
you have to do that. We misfit a couple runs and missed a few tackles in the
secondary. We got to be able to get those down. When you play good,
your explosive runs are a 10 or 11 yard gain and not those.
Just got to be better. Got to improve. Challenge is going to change
as it does every single game in this league. We got to continue to get
better. That's what we'll do.
