The Real Work of College Admissions: What Students & Parents Get Wrong | Christopher Parsons

When should students really start planning for college—and how can families make smarter decisions without getting overwhelmed by rankings, applications, testing, and cost?

In this episode of Real Work – How People Turn Ideas Into Impact, I talk with Christopher Parsons, founder and president of College Planning Center and author of Entering the Arena: Turning College Admissions Odds in Your Favor.

Christopher has spent years helping students and families navigate college admissions, scholarships, career planning, testing, applications, and the often-difficult question: What is actually the right fit for this student?

We talk about:

• Why college planning should begin earlier than many families realize
• What students and parents often get wrong about admissions
• Why being authentic can be more valuable than trying to look like every other applicant
• How students can explore careers before choosing a college or major
• College fit vs. prestige
• The real cost of college and why families need honest financial conversations
• How parents can support students without taking over the process
• Christopher’s 1:1 college planning and coaching
• His new College Arena app
• His book, Entering the Arena
• All-In College Planning, his nonprofit helping make college-planning resources available to underserved students
