Amazing Inside SpaceX's BAKERY Heatshield Production Line 10X FASTER!
How does SpaceX produce thousands of heatshield tiles for Starship, one of the biggest rockets ever built?
In this video, we step inside SpaceX’s “Bakery” to see how these tiny ceramic tiles are mass-produced at an incredible rate.
We’ll first look at what Starship’s heatshield is actually made of and why a material that is mostly empty space can handle the extreme heat of reentry.
Then, we’ll follow a tile through the entire production process, from mixing silica fibers into a slurry to molding, baking, machining, coating, and final inspection.
And with roughly 20,000 tiles needed for a single Starship, the scale of this operation gets pretty crazy.

We’ll also look at how those tiles are transported to Starbase and mechanically attached to the stainless-steel vehicle.
That includes SpaceX’s clever “Crunchwrap” design, which helps protect the gaps between the tiles from hot plasma during reentry.
Finally, we’ll look at how the heatshield has evolved through recent Starship flights and why Flight 13 provided some especially valuable data.
With SpaceX now preparing further heatshield improvements and even planning to reuse recovered tiles, the goal is clearly to make the system faster, stronger, and more reusable.
So, let’s step inside the “Bakery” and see how SpaceX is basically baking thousands of tiny pieces of spacecraft every day.
