The aggressor country Russia has amassed approximately 100,000 operational and tactical reserves and is preparing offensive operations in four directions at once, but its actual forces are only sufficient for two of them. Military expert, pilot instructor, and retired Ukrainian Armed Forces Colonel Roman Svitan explained this in an interview with Glavred .
"Several areas are visible where the Russians have been amassing forces and where they still have fairly large operational-tactical reserves – around 100,000," he emphasized. According to him, the first area where the enemy had amassed forces was the Orekhovo-Gulyai-Polye sector. There, the Russians had established a powerful rear base and were already attacking bridges, preparing to deploy reserves.
"The first section is the Orekhovo-Gulyai-Polye direction. They have a fairly significant base there in the Polohy area. Polohy is currently quite heavily occupied by Russian troops; it's practically a military hub for them. From there, they can advance toward Orekhovo and Gulyai-Polye," the expert explained.
The second bridgehead is concentrated in the area of Mirnograd, from where the enemy expects to develop an offensive through Dobropillia. "The second bridgehead was Mirnohrad. They concentrated there: more than 100,000 Russians had gathered within a 30-40 kilometer radius of this area. They were concentrating in order to then move through Dobropillia toward Barvinkove," Svitan explained.
In his opinion, from a military point of view, this plan has already lost its meaning, but its abandonment will depend on the decisions of the Russian command.
"But this mission, by and large, is already leading nowhere. From a military standpoint, they should abandon it and turn toward Kramatorsk. We'll see how much common sense they still have. But they have a foothold, and they'll definitely try to move toward Dobropillia, and then—depending on their remaining sanity—either Barvinkove or straight to Kramatorsk," the retired colonel noted. The expert added that the enemy had formed a third powerful bridgehead in the area of Konstantinovka, Chasovy Yar, and Bakhmut, relying on the developed rear infrastructure of the Horlivka-Yenakiyevo agglomeration. "The third, fairly powerful bridgehead is the area of Kostiantynivka, Chasovy Yar, and the Bakhmut direction. The main base in this direction is the Horlivka-Yenakiyevo agglomeration. A fairly significant troop concentration is located there, and the army's rear areas are fully secured. And this bridgehead will definitely be operational," Svitan emphasized.
Since it is no longer possible to encircle the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration with flank attacks, the enemy is forced to resort to frontal attacks.
"Since it's no longer possible to encircle the Slavyansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration with pincers, they will attempt to strike head-on – from Bakhmut, Chasovy Yar, and Kostyantynivka, from south to north. There are no other options," he emphasized. The fourth area of Russian activity is the Kharkiv region, where the Third Army Corps is operating and where the enemy's key objective is to reach Velykyi Burluk. "It's crucial for them to reach Velykyi Burluk and begin advancing from near Vovchansk to block Burluk or reach it," Svitan said. A retired Ukrainian colonel emphasized that, despite four directions, Russia's resources are insufficient for simultaneous active operations in all areas, so the enemy is forced to prioritize.
