A. Eugene Andreu is originally from Cuba, has also lived in Spain, and now resides in western New York.

His career was as a mathematician; first as a professor then as an applied researcher. A couple of years prior to his retirement he taught himself photography and gravitated towards the genre of black and white fine art, which he now specializes in. He likes to pose his images in a 1:1 frame as it allows for a unique perspective and a focused form of storytelling.

Unable to travel to faraway landscapes, he looks for unique interpretations that are near to where he lives: minimalism, long exposure, macro, natural scenery, and architectural structures. He enjoys the experience of being part of the subject and story he is capturing with his camera and reliving it in post processing.

His statement for the genre:
“Working in black and white allows one to further their artistic expression in post-processing, adding gradients to enhance gestures, controlling the light and darkness of images to evoke emotion and focus.”
