Then Shantamma gave and Ramanamma said I would return you in few days because there are many guests in my house. She agreed. Later, she did not return that ghee. Then Shantamma also kept quiet. She didn't say anything. But one day she also had guests. She needed ghee. Then she went to Ramanamma's house and asked, can you please give my ghee back? Why are you asking me ghee? You also have cows. No, no, no. You had taken a cup of ghee from me and you did not return. I am asking for that. I too have guests. Otherwise, I would have kept quiet. For that, she said when did I take ghee from you? Actually, I don't need any ghee from you. I have ten cows. You have only two cows. For that, she did not know what to do. She cheated. Meanwhile, Ramanamma called his servant and whispered, during early hours, you go to their house and spray muddy water in front of Seethamma's and Ramanamma's house without being known to anyone. His servant followed his order. Both the ladies were shocked to see their street muddy. They went to Maryad Ramanamma's house with their feet full of mud. Ramanamma asked his servant to put bucket full of water and a mug. Ramanamma turned to them and said, both of you first wash your feet and come. Shantamma washed her feet neatly with one mug of water. On the other hand, Ramanamma poured full bucket of water to wash her feet. Ramanamma and all others were observing. All were waiting for his judgment. Maryad Ramanamma declared, Ramanamma, you had taken ghee from Shantamma. No doubt about it. Then she asked, how can you say that without any evidence? I told both of you to wash your feet. Shantamma washed her feet just with a mug of water. But you wasted a bucket full of water to wash your feet. Through this test, I understood yours and Shantamma's nature too. Ramanamma further continued. You may have many cows, but your consumption or wasting of ghee is more. But Shantamma is not like you. She may have two cows, but she knows how to manage with those two without wasting milk or milk products. That is why you went to her house to get ghee. So, the test which I gave you is the clear evidence. What do you say about it? Asked Ramanamma. Ramanamma fell on his feet and accepted that she had taken a cup of ghee from Shantamma. As punishment, you must give her five cups of ghee. Ramanamma declared there itself. In this way, though there was no evidence that Ramanamma had taken ghee from Shantamma, he gave good judgment only because of his good observation of their nature.
