Ukrainian Special Operations Forces captured three Russian occupiers during a counteroffensive in the Liman sector of Donetsk Oblast. The Special Operations Forces command posted information about the operation on their Facebook page. According to the Special Operations Command, the operation was carried out by soldiers of the 8th Prince Izyaslav Mstislavich Special Operations Regiment. Ukrainian radio intelligence determined the approximate location of the Russian occupiers' assault group. They were located in a village near Liman.
Ukrainian special forces advanced toward the enemy. They captured all three Russian attack aircraft without any losses. Ukrainian soldiers seized the enemy's communications equipment and obtained valuable intelligence.
As a reminder, this summer, the Ukrainian Armed Forces quietly launched Operation Vivaldi in the Liman sector. According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, by October, the Ukrainian army had recaptured 176 square kilometers of territory in the Liman area. The main goal of this operation was to prevent the Russian army from penetrating into the rear of Slovyansk and Kramatorsk, which is precisely what was accomplished. The British newspaper The Telegraph published details of Ukraine's Operation Vivaldi, during which the 3rd Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces employed a new tactic. This involved the unexpected return of tanks to the battlefield after several months of virtual absence. However, the appearance of tanks does not mean a return to large-scale mechanized offensives. As military expert Sam Cranny-Evans noted, these are small raids involving small groups of vehicles. In this case, only two tanks were used simultaneously. According to British experts, Operation Vivaldi demonstrates what a new model for employing armored vehicles in modern warfare might look like. Tanks are still used, but they operate in conjunction with a large number of drones and other new weapons. This concept is based on the 20-40-40 model. According to it, manned vehicles, including tanks, should comprise approximately 20% of the army's combat potential. Another 40% should be reusable unmanned systems, and the remaining 40% should be disposable assets, primarily kamikaze drones.
