Donald Trump’s new Russia fuel deal is drawing heavy criticism in Washington after the president moved to bring Russian diesel into U.S. and global markets as fuel prices surge ahead of the midterms.

Trump said Russia would immediately supply more than 300,000 metric tons of diesel, followed by another 500,000 tons in November and a further 1 million tons thereafter. He publicly thanked Vladimir Putin for the agreement, calling it a “big deal” involving “massive amounts of oil.”
