New video tonight from inside a home after a fire.
It is where firefighters rescued
six pets today and revived several of them using Fido bags.
So this happened today in Phoenix near
37th Street and Van Buren
and Jacob Luthi joins us live from the scene with more. Hi, Jacob.
Yeah, good evening, Brian. Look, Phoenix Fire says
that they're really happy that they have
these at their disposal.
These Fido masks, they fit over a pet's muzzle, can be a dog,
can be a cat, but it's specialized for them
to best get that oxygen to them. But if you take a
look here behind me, you could see the damage
that the fire did to this house here in Phoenix. Right
now, the door and the windows are boarded up
and I'm told that a 79 year old woman is now left
without a home. Her family now trying to help her pick up the pieces.
This video shared by Erica
Nunez shows the damage left behind
in her grandmother's Phoenix home after a fire broke
out Sunday. Nunez says the fire has turned
her 79-year-old grandmother's life upside down
and left her beloved pets injured.
They ended up finding several pets inside. Phoenix Fire says
crews moved quickly to battle the blaze while
also searching the home to make sure no one was
left inside. During the search,
crews rescued three dogs and three cats, some needing oxygen
and specialized fire masks to be revived.
Phoenix Fire Captain DJ Lee says the masks were donated by
the Fetch Foundation and firefighters are trained
to use them to give animals the best chance of
surviving a fire. This video shows Phoenix fire crews using
the masks back in July. Lee says the
department is working to equip every engine with them
so crews have them ready when an animal needs
help. Oxygen masks for humans don't work as well for a dog
or a pet so they have these little cones
that we can hook up to our oxygen tanks
and give them their oxygen so it ended up working out
really well. Nunez says her grandmother now faces
the challenge of starting over. Captain Lee says
Phoenix Fire will continue doing everything it can to protect people,
their belongings and their
beloved pets. Even when I saw guys were taking their oxygen
or the mask the air that they breathe from
their tanks, they were putting that in front of them
because there are so many pets they're
bringing out. So they're using their air just
to try to give the pets anything. So again,
we're going to use whatever we can to help these pets.
Now, investigators were on scene earlier
today but phoenix fire department says no word yet
on how this fire started some of the pets
remain with the vet right now getting
that extra treatment they need the family has set up a Go
Fund Me to help support them as they go through
this difficult situation that can be found on
