A family is mourning the loss of a mother of seven hit
and killed by a train. It happened
last week in Eloy and Jacob Luthi joins us live
with how she's being remembered tonight. Jacob.
Thelma Candelaria's family tells me that she
was on her morning routine run on Thursday when she
was struck by a train here in Eloy.
They say that she was posting on social media just minutes
before her life was cut short.
These are the final moments Thelma Candelaria shared on social media
Early Thursday morning, October 15th, her family says she was on a
nine-day running streak using social media to spread positivity.
But minutes after these posts,
her family says she was hit by a train and died.
Eloy police say the 47-year-old was struck
by a Union Pacific train near Sunshine Boulevard and Frontier Street.
They say the train engineer sounded the horn
and immediately activated the emergency brakes.
Thelma was pronounced dead at the scene.
She leaves behind seven children just days before her death.
Her family says she had been baptized.
They remember her as a vibrant,
loving woman with a gift for making everyone feel like family.
She was just there to love.
And I've always believed that I have a very giving heart,
but Thelma's heart far supersedes mine by far.
So I just hope that I can be a quarter of the person that she was.
She was just free and amazing and she really resilient
and just an angel, honestly, really, truly an angel.
The family has set up a GoFundMe to help the children with groceries,
household bills and everyday expenses as they navigate this loss.
