Uh, boy, um, I don't know if you were watching last night.
Uh, I was, as you take a live look at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
If you missed the ending of the Falcons game, well,
consider yourself lucky. It was, uh, take it from me, tough to watch.
The Falcons facing the Ravens.
We all thought it was going to be, uh, not a slam dunk, but, you know,
we, we hope to continue the momentum after Green Bay and New Orleans,
even without Lamar Jackson, the Ravens quarterback.
We thought for sure something good was going to happen.
Been to our Falcons on home turf, but that wasn't the case.
Dashed in the late fourth quarter in dramatic fashion.
The Ravens able to put up a tie and then send the game into overtime.
And then that was the end
of that with the Falcons losing to the Baltimore Ravens.
Let's bring in our experts.
Our diagnosticians, that's what I'm going to call you guys.
You're like the doctors.
All right, here comes the patient, and that is the Atlanta Falcons,
into the examination room here, guys.
What went wrong last night?
We had stalled red zone drives.
We had dominance by Baltimore.
What was the single biggest breakdown last night?
Tom, I say, man, I don't even know if I have any more to say.
You just about laid it out for everybody.
It's good to be back here with you, though.
The single biggest thing, not being able to run the ball effectively.
Even though we were able to pass the ball,
we were not able to run the ball, and we did not stop their run.
and that gave them the ability to do different things on offense.
And us not being able to run the ball
at the time of possession swayed in their favor.
And when it came down to the end of the game,
I just think our defense had been on the field for too long,
and they ended up giving up a game, time, drive.
They took it to overtime.
So we had been beating teams by running
the ball well and stopping the run,
and we didn't do those two things,
which is our calling card so far in our wins this season.
Yeah, I would say our offense, man.
Our offense let us down.
They didn't complete key third-down plays
to keep the defense off the field.
Our defense seemed to be on the field a lot, a lot, a lot of the game,
and they end up wearing down.
I feel like if we can just clean that up, man, we'll be all right, man.
If the offense can just get the key timely third-down passes
that they need to get, we'll be all right.
Because he's the key player here,
and if this injury kind of sidelines him,
what next for the Falcons?
Do they put Tua back on the front line?
Or is there panic moving forward
as to what the offense is supposed to do?
Well, Kyle Pitts missed a key block,
and it ended up costing Michael Penix.
He ended up hurting his ribs.
He says he's going to play.
He says he's not going to miss any more time.
He's missed enough time already in his career.
So he said he will play.
I think they'll give him some pain medication
to help through it this weekend,
and we shall see what he does.
But if he is hurt, man, it's going to be a long season for the Falcons
because Tua did not look good.
We already know about Cooper Rush
and Jack Strand's just not ready right now
to run the offense.
So hopefully Michael Penix can get it together,
come in and solidify this offense.
Yeah, they just had a press conference
with Kevin Stefanski.
It may still be going on right now,
but I saw a little bit right before we came on.
He was talking about Michael Penix's rib injury.
No new news, but he does have to get everything
looked at, MRI and those things
to determine how long he would be out
if he's going to be out at all.
To be Rich's point, Michael Penix says
he wants to be on the field but hey that's going
to be up to doctors if you know anything about
the Falcons history someone comes up with a paper cut
and then they're out for a season so i really
don't know what to expect coming from this Michael Penix's injury
but if Tua has to take over
then uh you know i'm gonna take the positive side i
was prepared to say give me a panic room a panic
house a panic state you know i mean
but i'm gonna say i'm gonna take the positive ride on this one
and hopefully Tua can come in and do a better job than what he did
in overtime first two passes
looked real good he just didn't see the safety on that third
so it will be the Tua show if michael
Penix cannot play and i don't think any
of us necessarily want that but hey we got to get behind
him because we support the team guys we're going
to need like an emotional support pet or animal
or something to hold on to when we watch these games i mean they're
so like you're gonna what
kind of pets you're gonna get tom i don't
my chihuahua maybe he wouldn't be any help at all
all right um let's let's talk about something
a lot more uh cheerful if you will um and that is
our atlanta dream um they've been so impressive they put
on such a show at state farm arena um
it's it's a almost as our anchor christine spiro said
a cultural experience to go to one of those
games um taking down new york punching their ticket to the WNBA finals
so in your judgment
looking at the dream is this sort
of the most impressive run you've seen out of the WNBA
well I can't say out of the WNBA
but when it comes to here being in Atlanta sports is definitely one
of the most impressive runs that we've seen here
in the city of Atlanta one of the most impressive
dream runs uh the dream are really doing their thing
and I and I can't say they flew under the
radar when you bring in you already had good players uh
in Alyssa Gray, Ryan Howard you already
had really good players when you make other moves
and you bring in a polarizing uh player and
celebrity as angel reese where there
are so many people whether you hate her or love her
her name is a lightning rod for criticism
and conversation and you come in and not only does
your team uh weather those type of storms
but it thrives and she turns into the defensive player
of the year and now your team is in the WNBA finals
this is an impressive run we are so proud
of the Dream and shout out to the day one Dream fans
this is your moment this is your time to
really support the team
and and reap all the benefits of staying down from day one we're
really excited about the Dream you know back
in the 80s man it was Magic and Bird that came in
and revitalized the NBA now you have Caitlin Clark
and Angel Reese and shout out to Chicago
and the Dream for pulling off a trade that is going
to forever change the WNBA in Atlanta
well we got a first two first round picks
for Angel Reese i think that right there has really
changed the dynamics in the Atlanta Dream
um i feel like uh the cultural the culture in Atlanta
is definitely changed i feel like this is going
to set up a lot of young women um in the in the
city of Atlanta in the state of Georgia in the south
to want to watch the WNBA so yeah this is
a big moment for Atlanta i'm very happy that we have Angel Reese
and now um just like Bird and
Magic did in the 80s i think Caitlin Clark
and Angel Reese will do that for the WNBA and Atlanta
like how you made those comparisons
um because remember Brandi Chastain kind of taken off
uh the the her jersey and you know whipping it around
with women's soccer that got the women's
soccer movement started um and and so that was another iconic moment
and i feel like you're
starting to have those where uh women's basketball
is concerned all right another game that i was
watching saturday night uh which kept me up late was georgia
and alabama this was a nail biter uh
Georgia, you know, coming out victorious.
A lot of people had a problem
with that end zone call that was made by the refs
or that went completely ignored or missed or whatever.
So now Georgia ranked the number one college football team in the SEC.
What about this team and taking the crown back
as the undisputed heavyweight college football team?
Well, I'll tell you what, man.
And Kirby Smart has finally got the monkey off his back.
He's going to Tuscaloosa, and he's got his first win there.
So there you have it.
We have the best college football coach in America.
We are the number one team.
And, hey, Tom, you know how many times
a call has gone against the Bulldogs
and against the Alabama team?
So I don't want to hear anything about
an Alabama fan crying about a call.
Yeah, it may have been pass interference, but so what?
We still won the game, and we're going to continue to win the game.
And shouts out to the Bulldogs, shouts out to Kirby Smart.
We were down two starting running backs,
two of our most key running backs,
and we did it with the backups.
Shouts out to him, shouts out to Gunnar Stockton,
shouts out to Mike Belbo, Go Dawgs.
Yeah, yeah, and to be at this point,
shout out to some of those backups,
Dwight Phillips Jr., that young man that's been in the program
for a couple years, took Kirby Smart's own words.
He said he never cried, he never complained, he just waited his time,
and now he's shining.
And you're talking about a man
who's a young man who's the son of a local man,
Dwight Phillips, who went to the Olympics, man,
helped bring home gold for the city of Atlanta and Metro Atlanta.
Now your son is up there in Athens shining.
Yeah, Alabama fans, I'm sorry.
Cry me a river.
Hey, turn into Justin Timberlake all you want, man.
Cry me a river.
I used to like that song.
So how about you do that?
I feel like hearing some good tunes.
You know what I mean?
But, hey, it's Georgia right now.
We're doing our things.
But I'm going to take the Kirby Smart approach.
We're not going to rest on this.
We're not going to feel like this is the end all.
They have bigger dreams and goals that they want to accomplish.
So shout-out to the Georgia Bulldogs for getting it done.
And shout-out to Kirby Smart.
Let's do it.
Real quick before we move on and we get to sports bars,
because we know that our teams need serenading.
They need inspiration.
What about that call?
Dijon Lee Jr. getting into trouble with Alabama's coach,
getting an earful, if you will.
I think one person kind of read the lips.
you lost the game for us
because he decided to tussle with the Georgia player.
That was something else.
Yeah, well, it's one of those things, these athletes,
when they're in the heat of the moment, you know, things can happen.
And it can easily happen to any athlete.
You let your emotions get the best of you.
And I would imagine in that situation, it's very hard.
Somebody's just punched you in your face mask
and you want to retaliate.
But it's always the person who goes second that gets caught.
And in that particular situation, he lost his cool.
and the Dawgs benefited from it.
I'm sure that's something that young man will learn from.
Hey, it went in my team's favor,
but I still don't like to see young men go through the situations
that really have the world coming down on them.
So I hope that young man bounces back and he'll learn from that.
But in the meantime, go Dawgs.
Thanks for helping us get the win.
Right.
All right, Trey, we know you got some tunes for us.
Are you going to sing us out with sports bars?
Of course I am, Tom.
How did our Falcons lose to the Ravens?
I mean, they didn't even have Lamar.
But they still sent us home like red from Friday,
sad and crying in the car.
They tried to turn our quarterback's ribs
to a Memphis dry rub on the field.
But it's all right.
We're about to go beat down the Bears
and show the whole league this team is still for real.
Go Falcons, man.
Go Falcons.
Turn our man's ribs to a Memphis dry rub.
Justin Timberlake's got nothing on you, Trey.
Good stuff.
