Philadelphia family mourning the loss
of a young man killed after homecoming festivities
at Delaware State University.
That shooting happening off campus on Saturday. Two people
were shot. The one who died is from Philadelphia.
Action News reporter Taronda Thomas spoke with
the victim's family. She joins us live
from Roxborough High School where the victim went
to high school there. Taronda.
Yes, he got his high school diploma here and while he did not
attend Delaware State University,
he thought it might be fun to go visit a friend there for
homecoming weekend. Instead,
it turned into a tragedy that his family is still trying to make
sense of. Yeah, the purest heart.
He never did anything to nobody. A 22-year-old who liked to
see the bright side of things. Why everywhere I go, the sun goes.
He was sweet. He liked to make
people laugh. Now, Nasir Cox's family is left
to figure out how they'll live life without him.
It's the worst pain I ever felt in my life, knowing that I would never
get a chance to hug my brother again and tell him how much I love him.
Cox was killed Saturday after going
to a homecoming celebration at Delaware State University.
It's a place his siblings thought he'd be safe,
but that sense of safety was shattered
when a gunman opened fire in a shopping center parking lot.
Police say thousands of people had gathered there off campus.
After Delaware State required everyone visiting campus for homecoming
to leave by 6 p.m., Nasir Cox was caught in the crossfire.
I just know it's devastating. It's
unfortunate that I lost my little brother.
I don't try to think too much into the incident and what happened.
I just know he ain't deserve that.
As police investigate, Nasir Cox's family is left to mourn a person who
lived to make people laugh, making TikTok videos that often went viral.
Yeah!
Originally from North Philadelphia, Cox's family says he never fed
into negativity and took pride in his job working for the city.
My brother chose the other route. You know, he chose to make an impact.
He chose to just remain positive.
His family trying to continue that positivity in memory of him.
Because I know he's still here with us in spirit. But I love you, bro.
A 21-year-old man was also injured in Saturday's shooting.
I did check with Dover police.
They say he is in the hospital last listed as stable.
Meanwhile, investigators want to hear from anyone with information,
maybe cell phone video from Saturday and tipsters can remain anonymous.

Yeah, this year seemed like such a bright light
and incredible smile. Taronda, thank you.
