A woman convicted of causing a fatal crash
that killed an SMU student will learn her fate today.
Yeah, Lindley Paulus could be in prison for decades.
Alex Boyer is live in Dallas this morning to explain.
Alex.
Hey, good morning.
So Lindley Paulus was convicted of intoxication manslaughter
as well as intoxication assault
in connection to that crash that killed an SMU student three years ago.
Now, the deadly crash happened in the middle
of the afternoon back on September 24th, 2023.
19-year-old Honor Wallace was driving through the intersection
of Monticello Avenue and the Central Expressway Service Road
when Paulus ran a red light and slammed into Wallace's car.
Wallace was killed and her friend, who had been riding
in the passenger seat, survived with a broken collarbone.
Paulus suffered minor injuries.
Paulus told investigators that she had been at Mutt's Cantina
in Dallas' West Village before the crash
where she had a margarita with extra shots of tequila.
Testing after the crash showed that her alcohol level
was nearly four times the legal limit.
Wallace was originally from Michigan
and had been studying English and Spanish at SMU.
Wallace's parents have
also filed a civil lawsuit against Paulus and Mutt's Cantina.
They're seeking $1 million in damages.
And again, as you mentioned at the beginning of this hit, I can tell
you that the sentencing phase is set to get underway later on today.
We, of course, will keep you posted as to the outcome.
Reporting live in Dallas, I'm Alex Boyer for Good Day.
