Happy Friday, welcome into Free For All Plus,
Jeff Kolb, Ethan Herrera, what are we wearing?
You like that?
You like this color?
And it's gonna be real popular color next week.
Are you trying to get kicked out of Dallas?
I'm trying to let people know and be aware about, this is a big one.
This is a big game, I think for both teams.
As famous as you are, let's just reestablish for the few non-fans,
reveal your identity.
I am a Packers fan.
You've made this known on very many shows, on so many other shows.
Who cares?
You've done it on Free For All, now Free For All Plus.
Yes, we get it.
We get it.
You know, I cheer for the Packers.
Doesn't mean I'm not fair and balanced.
Here's the thing with the Cowboys.
The Eagles, yes.
Like, Cowboy fans hate the Eagles.
The Niners hate the Niners.
Devastated the Cowboys recently with a couple
of those heartbreaking playoff losses.
But the Packers.
I think if I'm a Cowboy fan, the Packers are the worst.
Last dozen games, only one win against the Pack,
and then there was that 40-40 tie last year.
And knocked them out of, not to throw salt in the wound,
but knocked them out of a couple of big momentum playoff swings.
We've been trying to forget about those.
Thank you very much, Packers.
Dallasite.
Sorry.
So the defense has been bad.
The recipe is let's hire a veteran mentor.
So in comes Mike Pettin to help with Christian Parker, mentor
of Parker's back when Pettin was defensive coordinator in Green Bay.
See, he's a Christian Parker.
Pettin is just the NFC North troubadour going through,
you know, everybody but Detroit.
And he's he's huge, huge defensive mind.
So Pettin that that hire announced on Monday,
but we didn't hear from him until today.
And so all week long, there's all this chatter like,
yeah, you had to do something with this
defense.
There had to be a move,
but is this really a move to help Christian Parker?
Or is this some kind of move where, yeah,
we're going to say he's a senior defensive
assistant, but ultimately he will take over
the job from Parker who's not equipped for
it.
Well, today on the radio before his press conference,
as if this wasn't enough media
from Brian Schottenheimer. He makes this comment
that doesn't exactly put to bed that hypothetical.
Will Mike Patton report directly to Christian Parker?
Does he report to you or how does that
workflow go? Yeah, no. I mean, Mike reports directly to me.
Obviously, he works side by
side with the entire staff, all three phases.
But again, the most important thing for him right now
is to be a sounding board for Christian.
I don't know. It's definitely an odd ordeal.
I mean, first off, to bring him in,
I think it's great for Christian Parker.
But hold on, first off, I want
to know what you make of the comment from Shottie.
The comment is, I think Shottie is, there's nothing really behind it.
I don't think that there was any sort
of other intent other than saying, hey, he's part of the whole staff.
I'm the head of the staff.
He's going to come to me.
I think it was the way he said it.
Like, he was really quick in commenting, like, he reports to me.
And I think that maybe caught some people off guard.
But I do think it's just an odd, I mean,
it's not an odd time for what's happening.
I just, it's hard for fans, and I've seen this all over social media,
that to not think that this is more of a,
and I hate saying this like this,
but more of like a babysitter for Christian Parker, right?
Yeah.
It does seem that way.
That comment, though, I think more shows that it's more like that
than him taking over for Christian Parker at some point.
Or heck, even interim head job if Brian Schottenheimer gets
the boot sometime this season.
So we finally got to hear from Mike Pettin.
But do you want to see Mike Pettin at practice?
Sorry, we don't have it.
Schottie, he goes ahead.
As I said, he had the press conference after the radio.
He doubles down on his answer on the radio about, hey,
Pettin reports to me, so do all the other assistants.
Well, this afternoon, we finally hear from Pettin,
not on the practice field.
He's been just soaking himself in all the film, in all the meetings.
And he says a lot of his work will
be that and planning with Parker behind closed doors.
Now, as I mentioned, Pettin, he was with the Packers.
He was the defensive coordinator in 2019.
Christian Parker was down as a GA at Texas A&M.
They find him down there and Patton hires him to join his staff.
So Mike says that he cares about Christian Parker.
Patton was just over in Italy celebrating his 60th birthday,
eating his way through
Italy with his wife.
But he gets this call from Parker, a call for help,
and says he had to answer the call.
But he was asked by the media today about
not overstepping his role working under Christian
and says he doesn't think it'll be a problem.
CP knows me well enough that when I say something,
some other people might be
a little shocked by it, and he just knows who I am.
So I think, you know, he'll understand where I'm coming from.
I mean, I'm not going to be, you know, I'll make some suggestions.
And when we get behind closed doors, you know,
I need to have some tough conversations.
We'll do it as I've always done with him or with other coaches.
So I don't see that part of it being an issue.
So, like, what's your pulse on this?
Do you like the early window
into this development where Mike Patton is pretty
much out of view? He's just kind of soaking up the film.
He will be up in the booth.
Parker stays on the sidelines.
There was a lot of conjecture about that because Tuesday,
I mean, this is like a story as old as time with the Cowboys.
Jerry Jones goes on the radio. He
says, guess what? Christian Parker, he's going to the booth.
Thursday, Christian Parker comes
off the mic says, I'm probably staying
on the sidelines. And then today says, yeah,
that's what's happening. Not what Jerry said.
I like it. I like the fact that he's,
like you said, this early window of him kind of saying,
look, I don't, maybe I don't need to
be on the field right now. There's a lot of film
for him to go over for sure. Especially these
first few weeks. I mean, obviously the way the team has played,
the defense has played, but
I like it. I like it. If they're going to go and say,
hey, Christian Parker, which is obviously
the route right now uh christian parker's the guy he's
the guy we brought in we don't need to have
Pettine, you know, over him already has the shadow
of him, he hasn't even been here for a couple of
days, you know, I'm gonna leave him out there, you
know, leave him inside and inside the facility
instead of out on the field, Parker's got it instead
of, I think it'll create a little bit
more panic, at least they're trying to isolate it
if this is an actual like move by Jerry Jones and
the Cowboys, I just think that really, I think he's, I think he's
not lying when he says he's going
through film because there's a lot to review
in these first, no he's not lying, I think a couple
things with this, uh, first off every little move
that happens with this as the weeks go on
especially if there's not success, oh yeah, will be hyper analyzed
so all right, right now we don't
see Mike Pettine at practice, what happens two losses
from now, oh my gosh, look Mike Pettine's
all over practice now, okay so is he just like encroaching
and it's just like he's storming
the beach and about to take the job.
And then on the flip side, if the Cowboys do wind up
having success, I think there's
a fair concern that who gets the credit
Right, he's going to get the credit
but I do think that, I mean, he deserves it. If
they do win, if anything changes - I don't
know about that, how can you, I mean-
Because the way that the defense has played so far
a third of the way in the season
It just shows that Christian Parker
and his defense together, the whole unit,
the actual players, the talent,
and his coaching staff on the defensive side
just were not ready in these first few weeks
I think there's a lot of things that are always at play.
It's hard to give any one person
on a football team all the blame or all the credit,
but we do that with the quarterbacks
and the head coaches and sometimes the coordinator.
So it's been really like a banner week
for the Cowboys as far as things going on.
Mike Tomlin's taking shots at the players-only meeting.
We've got this deal with Patton going on.
And then while the Cowboys are looking this way,
the Eagles come from this way and say,
oh, that quarterback on your practice squad, we're going to snatch him.
So Joe Milton III is now an Eagle.
Today, Philly's signing the Cowboys third
string quarterback off of the practice squad.
Teams can do this.
I mean, anyone can sign or come to an agreement
with a practice squad player on any other
team at any given time.
You don't even have to give a heads up to the current team about that.
uh jerry jones though this is another draft pick traded
and wasted he traded a fifth in 2025 to
get milton we'll remember him i think for the backflips
and the bomb throws people felt you
know drooled over the uh the big arm ability
but he lost the job the backup job to sam howell
and now i mean this is really interesting ethan dallas i think has
to sign a quarterback between
What time is it? 7.09 p.m. on Friday.
They've got to sign somebody between now and tomorrow.
They leave tomorrow afternoon for Green Bay
because otherwise you go up there. If Dak gets
hurt and then Howell gets hurt,
what are you putting in like a CeeDee Lamb or Jake Ferguson,
a quarterback? I mean, that's right now as it stands,
that's what would happen.
They would have to get somebody
from their team automatically there. I think, you know,
side note, you know, not to just gloss over it a little bit,
but I think it's a great move from,
Philadelphia, especially with the news from Jalen Hurts
and the blood clot, we don't know
how long he's going to be out
or how serious that injury is or the blood clot is.
It's serious sounding. Don't mess around with the blood clot.
So Milton being there, that's big for them.
Kind of tough for the NFC East. That'll be
going down the stretch because the Eagles
are still the Eagles. But emergency quarterback,
we did talk about this. And I got to give you credit,
this one was interesting out of left
field. Jeff loves to give himself credit, so I'll do it this time.
Will Greer, he said
Will Greer on the coaching staff,
they can just sign him, move him on over, put a helmet
on him, bring him out there as the emergency quarterback.
He was on the roster just last year, or suiting up at least.
That would be interesting and awesome to see.
Also interesting, if Hurts does miss more than just this week,
he's been ruled out for
Philly this week, next game, hosting the Cowboys.
Imagine if Joe Milton III is starting
for Dallas, or for the Eagles against Dallas in that game.
That's not all.
We've hit on a lot of banner things here.
Jerry Jones with the big fox and friends walked through the mansion.
But the injury report always comes out on Fridays.
And now we get this shocker at the bottom.
I mean, the DeMarvin Overshaw thing
is actually like a positive development
because it sounds like there was no chance he was playing.
But Joey Porter Jr.
Oof.
Ankle.
Ankle.
And that's tough.
Kobe Durant, Drew Shelton, they're both ruled out.
Like you said DeMarvin Overshaw, that's a great upgrade for Overshaw.
It'd be great to get him back on the defensive side.
But this is an odd one.
I mean, it's another blow
because you get this star cornerback that you trade for,
and he's supposed to be this great.
And he is.
He's fantastic.
But you get the weird illness right before
the game where he gets food poisoning or something
right before last week's game.
This one coming up right going into the weekend.
It's an ankle injury now.
It is a very perplexing thing going on with Joey Porter,
and it just stinks for the Cowboys.
So just to put a little bit of quick context to it,
we know he had the contract fight with
Pittsburgh, they trade him here.
But then he plays right away in Houston.
But then, day of the game, my gosh,
who did they just lose, to Tampa.
Four days later, he shows up to Jerry World and he's puking.
I take his word on it.
I mean, they said they saw him puking.
Yeah, we've seen a little bit of it.
But now there's this ankle thing.
He was a full participant Thursday.
So that's why this is such a surprising thing
is that he's limited here on Friday.
And that has the antenna going up a little bit as far as like,
all right, is this like real?
Or is he actually maybe doing the thing
that people in Pittsburgh say he did?
It's just odd.
I'll put it that.
I'll leave it at that for me.
Yeah, so there will be a lot to talk about on Monday.
And you know what we do Monday nights nowadays, right?
During football season.
Do I sleep?
I take a nap.
There's a giveaway.
Dead giveaway.
Cowboys Unfiltered.
Jeff Kolb's going to host that as he's been doing all season long.
Jeff Kolb.
Yeah, that's you, dude.
7:30.
I'm hoping that we have some winning voicemails, but I know you're not.
No, no, I'm not hoping for anything other than a good, clean fight.
Good, clean game.
Before we get to Unfiltered and before we get to Cowboys Packers,
we have action at Cotton Bowl Stadium.
Absolutely.
And we have a special guest
for that on the other side of Free For All Plus.
Both pointed at the same time.
We're back, baby.
I got to plug my ear in.
I don't know what you're doing over there.
You got messing around.
We've got guests coming in.
I feel more comfortable.
You're wearing the tie.
I feel more comfortable than it's not just me and you now.
It's what it is.
It's Friday night.
It's good to have Charlie on board.
Charlie Neal here, Dallas Trinity FC.
President.
Yeah, it's football season.
That's right.
This is like the year of football, right?
That's right.
So we're filling up the Cotton Bowl again tomorrow.
That's the hope, guys.
Tomorrow is going to be an amazing, amazing day.
4 o'clock, Cotton Bowl in the middle
of the last weekend of the state fair.
Fall weather is finally here.
And, yeah, come on out.
It's Dallas Trinity FC.
We're Dallas' women's professional soccer team.
Every year we do this.
It's our second year going.
We bring up one of the most popular clubs from Mexico.
Last year we had Club America.
We had 22,000-plus people in the Cotton Bowl that afternoon.
This year, we're bringing their rival, Chivas de Guadalajara.
And I'll tell you, Chivas fans want to beat the record.
They know what Club America did last year.
They're going to be loud.
It's going to be so fun.
Yeah, spend your Saturday in the fair.
The ticket to the game gets you into both.
So if you have a match ticket,
you can come on into the fair, enjoy Ferris wheel,
corndog, whatever it is, and then come
on to the Cotton Bowl at 4 o'clock.
I love that.
You said the record-setting match
last year against America was 22,838.
What a stat.
What a great stat.
It's the largest attendance ever at a pro women's sport in Texas.
So the only one that I think it beat the Dallas Wings
were taking on Indiana Fever when Caitlin Clark came in.
Yeah, they're going to get some more seats in American Airlines Center.
Exactly.
More than that's happening.
but this going on off of a uh
the the group uh well first we'll talk about the the match a little
bit uh coming in they are uh like you said one
of the premier clubs exhibition match four o'clock
last saturday of state fair why is this why
was this something that you wanted to get done last
year and keep it going this year yeah i tell people all
the time like i'm a dallas native i
grew up here i'm a huge dallas sports fan we're
a young club this is our third season what better
to make noise than bring in these international brands
and really test the waters and compete with
them. But also bring in brands that other people are gonna recognize
so they can get introduced to
our club, right? So if you're a fan of Chivas
or America or Barcelona when we played our first
season, have us be your hometown club.
So we want people to experience the Cotton Bowl,
experience women's soccer in the Cotton Bowl,
and just experience our players.
The style of play, we're aggressive, they play hard on the field.
There's just the passion in
the stands is so much fun. We talked about it before.
Soccer is so unique in that, right?
Like fans bring drums, flags, flares, sometimes they sneak them in.
And you get all of that in
the Cotton Bowl. And so, yeah,
I think it just speaks to how we view ourselves and where our
aspirations are. We want to be a global brand.
We're built here as a community first club here
in Dallas, but Dallas has become a global city.
So we feel like our soccer team should be the
same way i mean there's a lot of unique things
that you might acquire at the state fair that
i don't know if it's hard i mean the mattress might
be hard to like sneak in there the pickled
pizza i don't know is there pickled pizza inside
or do you have to go to the food court hey half
time you're we have re-entry
so if you want to go out get your pickled pizza you just have to
finish it before you get back in so we
were joking about you know how quickly someone could finish a
beer or finish a club flasher's corn dog before coming back
in well we we know how to finish some
corner. Oh yeah, that's what we're known for.
Have you had the pickle pizza? No. Have you
had the pickle pizza? No. No, I'm not a pickle.
I was really skeptical. It's got a good Alfredo
face. I'll just say that for me.
I remember watching Messi during an FC Dallas preseason
friendly at the Cotton Bowl. And that was really cool.
And obviously, World Cup this
summer was amazing.
We get the Women's World Cup in Brazil next year. But just going off
of this World Cup, have you felt
with the franchise more energy for the sport and more
interest from women's soccer players?
Yeah, I think it's a combination of two
things. One, certainly like you're saying,
I think Dallas did an amazing job. I can't give
enough credit to the organizing committee.
Monica Paul deserves all of the credit she
deserves for helping lead that charge in nine matches
that I think went off miraculously well.
But I think it was a lot of the energy off
the field that people experienced too, just
cultures like Argentina and the Netherlands
and Japan coming here and experiencing Dallas and
the best of what we bring to the table.
So certainly, yeah, I think people have felt
that energy. But the second is it introduced
the sport to a lot of new people. And that was
helpful for us because I think
when you think about how do you drive people out to the Cotton
Bowl, get them interested in what you're doing,
now they know what the sport can be at the highest
level. And so now our job is to show them we have
the taste of that in their backyard.
And hey, maybe by 2031, if the World Cup is here,
who knows where this franchise will be at that
point. Hey, 2026, again, the organizing committee,
Monica would tell you it was great to have nine
men's matches, but getting a World Cup final
for the women back in 2031 would be a dream come true
for so many of us. Let's do it.
Charlie, looking forward to things tomorrow. I can't be there.
Unfortunately, I'll be headed up to Green Bay,
but Ethan will be there, right? Oh yeah, dude,
I'm going to be waving around the towel here, man.
This is awesome.
This is great.
I love this because, especially after the World Cup,
uptick in soccer attendance at
FC Dallas has been crazy big.
Trinity FC now, I mean, what, fourth in the league right now?
Three, three, and two, if I remember correctly.
FC Dallas is third or fourth in their conference.
So, hey, soccer in North Texas, it's on its way up.
Strong clubs, and if you're coming tomorrow,
we're going to put the timer on you at halftime.
Go eat your Fletcher's corndog.
i'll get back all right i'm down i'm down well charlie great
to get you on Free For All Plus
and uh look forward to getting out to a match soon
no thanks for having me guys all right we're back
after this and i love when it's all about me welcome back
to free for all plus i we needed
to get rid of ethan and his green yeah i think uh
most i think we lost no we don't even want to see
you okay sorry you're right i'll be over here
um how about the baseball the baseball go brew crew
right that is that that series i don't know how much have you
been watching but man that team is
so good those the brewers are they have to be one
of the best uh well coached teams too pat murphy
has been fantastic the bullpen is incredible
but if you watch those guys play this whole series
they're talking about you know big hitters big hitters
but these guys timely hits small ball
yeah but what's like the slugging percentage what
don't you know dallas trinity fc i told you man
The beat reporter, Ethan Herrera.
I'm all over it.
I'm all over it.
Oh, my gosh.
You give this guy 30 minutes to research,
and it's just stats left and right.
Yeah, I got you, dude.
Dallas Trinity FC's on the rise, for sure.
FC Dallas, man.
FC Dallas is doing well.
But yeah, go Brew Crew, and we'll see.
Guardians are up, right?
On the Rays, so that's tonight.
I want to see.
I would love to see a Cleveland.
No, it's not on Fox.
No, FS1.
But Cleveland and Milwaukee.
The Cleveland and Milwaukee World Series would be awesome.
Keep it in the Midwest.
Midwest.
Midwest.
Shout out, Maddie.
Is Cleveland Midwest?
I think it counts.
I think it counts.
Eastern time zone, though.
I don't think that matters.
Our poll question of the night.
Is Cleveland Midwest?
No, I'm just kidding.
But yeah.
Do we have anything else tonight?
Tonight's-
Is there any high school football?
There's a few high school football games going on.
The Mavs, baby.
Big night for the Mavs.
They revealed the new menu.
The new menu.
And NBA season starts on Tuesday.
NBA season starts on Tuesday.
And Spurs and Thunder kick it off.
All right.
So I'm going to put this back to you.
Last year, I said, you love the Packers.
You love the Spurs.
If you pick one, it'll win the whole thing.
And you didn't.
And they both lost.
Who are you picking?
Packers or Spurs?
I think it's a pretty easy choice at this point.
Spurs.
Got to go Spurs.
I'm from San Antonio.
So gotta go. Go Spurs, go.
And you've got the Cowboys this weekend by how many?
Negative 15. Packers have won nine straight
October games. Toyota-thon Jordan Love.
You know what that means, right? Toyota-thon Jordan Love.
And the Cowboys have only won one
of the last 12 meetings. You know what that means?
What is it? They're due? They're due.
Get out of here. Cowboys win, baby.
10:30 free for all. Check us out there
on Channel 4. Go get some dinner.
Trinity, what up?
