Remnants of that bad crash are scattered across
a Nassau County neighborhood still this morning.
Right, and as people in that community are waking up to the mess,
we're trying to figure out exactly what happened here.
And New Stoke-Mung Island's Jonathan Gordon
is in Freeport getting some answers
as that investigation, Jonathan, is underway.
Yeah, well, look, you can see behind me some
very significant damage here to this property
behind me on East Seaman Avenue.
I mean, it's substantial.
and the homeowner here basically told me
that the crash this morning was so significant
that the car went through his front yard,
took out a majority of his fence right through the front stairs.
You can see the damage on the grass here
as well where the tire marks were, took out a tree,
and the homeowner obviously very shaken up
and surprised to see that this morning.
This unfolded about 11:45 last night.
I want to show you some new video that we have this morning,
And you can see from a neighbor, basically,
officers running down the block.
So they're coming off of East Seaman Avenue.
They're making a right down Rutland Road,
and they're running out with flashlights.
Still no indication exactly at this moment,
100% the scope of that part of the investigation,
but obviously a massive scene here that played out
in this mostly residential neighborhood.
That, again, that video took about 11:45 last night.
we were here this morning all the way through five
o'clock about 5:15 they started to break down
uh the scene so the road shut down
this neighborhood shut down for a significant
amount of time uh overnight
and and so when we got here we'll show you some more video from at
four o'clock this morning the car that the
neighbor says went through his front yard
we uh that was gone already we didn't see it uh
but on the other side of the road across the
street so diagonally across the street was the other
car and it had some significant damage there
pretty substantial and you can see right over there
to the front end of the car both of those
doors opened up and at one point police eventually got onto
the flatbed and towed it out of here
but again it has been obviously very difficult
for a lot of people here in the community trying
to figure out exactly what happened trying
to assess the situation and I spoke with the
homeowner across the street where the car one
of the cars ended up pressed against her fence line
and this is how she described a bit
of the damage there to her front yard.
A driveway with glass all over,
pieces of a car there, and that's basically it.
And so they said they were okay.
For the most part, they made out all right,
but the investigation still continues.
Nassau County Police have told me that they did assist
with the investigation last night,
but it's still ongoing.
Still waiting on information from Freeport Police.
We have not gotten it back.
We've been in contact with Freeport officials, but we have
not received full confirmation on the scope of this investigation,
so we're working to still confirm that.
We'll bring you an update as soon as we do.
We're in Freeport in Nassau County.
Jonathan Gordon, News 12.
What a scene.
Jonathan, thanks so much for the update.
