Houston police investigate report of body in Buffalo Bayou

Story of an investigation at Buffalo Bayou that is taking place. So we have our reporter, Olivia Dance, there along the bayou this morning. We got word early this morning, Olivia, of a water rescue. Has that since turned into a recovery mission? What can you tell us? Yes, Sally, I'm still waiting to learn that information, but I can tell you that I did see the Harris County medical examiner arrive on the scene about 20 minutes ago. So typically that will happen when this is a recovery mission, not a rescue. So if that's the case, obviously a sad situation. But this call initially, as you mentioned, came in just before 8.30 this morning as a water rescue. The call reported seeing a body in the Buffalo Bayou. Now we have what, you know, just behind us here, they're blocking off this construction site. And to give you some perspective of where we are, we are in the second ward. This is near East River 9, which is just up the road here, if you're familiar with that. But right now, we're on North York Street and Foley, again, in the second ward. And before they blocked this entrance off, as I mentioned, we did see a medical examiner go in there. We saw the Houston police boat. We've seen a helicopter above. And then there's also several crews just inside the construction site here that's blocked off. Obviously, we don't have a good view of that now. before they blocked off the road we were able to go in there and it looks like they the officers were kind of looking in the brush near the buffalo bayou but again we don't have anything confirmed at this time to give you some perspective though earlier this month it was actually october 2nd i also reported to this exact location for reports of another body in the bayou i do not know if these two situations are connected but i can tell you in that specific case the report came in someone essentially had sent a photo of a body in the bayou to police they confirmed that it was a man who was already dead and looked like he had been in the bayou for quite some time they were set up where we are now looking for the body trying to recover it but that was earlier this month on october 2nd i don't know if they ever did recover that body again i don't know sally if these two situations are connected in any way at all but what i can tell you is that there is a large police presence still here, the medical examiners here, and also the Houston police boat. Yeah, Olivia, interesting that you mentioned that one, because in recent days, HBD did tell us that they're investigating two fatal shootings with both of those bodies found in Buffalo Bayou in separate locations, but they believe they're connected. So it will be interesting to see if they think this is a third one that is potentially connected. Yeah, no, I mean, that will certainly be interesting and then, you know, potentially even a larger concern and issue if that's the case. But I just think it is also interesting that this is kind of the exact same location where officials were set up earlier this month for another body that they were trying to recover from the water. I do remember them saying, though, at that time that it was difficult just because of the current in the bayou, the murkiness of it, and then also just all the brush along the sides. They weren't sure that they were going to actually be able to recover the body back earlier this month. So that's why I say I don't know if in that specific situation, if they ever did find the body. And I guess there is a chance that this could be connected or it could be a totally separate situation. All right. Our Olivia Dance out there in Second Ward off York Street this morning.
