All right, welcome out back.
It is a little bit chilly out here, but we're having a good time.
Right on.
I'm with my good friend, Randy Adams.
Now, Randy and I go way back.
Way back.
From the Uncle Jam Sam.
You had that thing.
Uncle Sam Jam in Woodhaven.
My coming out party back in the day.
But Randy now is the show organizer for, I'll let you say it.
The Shiny Rust Hot Rod Spectacular happening over
in Novi October 17th and 18th.
That's this weekend.
At the Vibe Credit Union Showplace, Saturday and Sunday.
Look at these vehicles.
It is incredible.
And the shiny rust hot rod, spectacular.
These things are truly spectacular.
Yes, and this is just a little taste of what's going to be there.
We're going to have everything from museum pieces to these hot rods.
And there's going to be all kinds of things going
on with even a pinup girl contest on Sunday.
And then we do the awards right after that.
And I got to say, Soaring Eagle has stepped up
and they're going to be given a prize package to the best of show.
And that's a weekend package they're going to be giving away that day.
Pretty incredible. And hot rods are so synonymous.
People love muscle. People love
that power here in the Metro Detroit area.
What is it about these vehicles that draw such a crowd?
It's the nostalgia. And I was just explaining
to somebody else, and I say this all the time.
If you're anywhere in the Detroit area or Flint area,
the Motor City or Vehicle City,
somewhere down the line your family worked
for a machine shop as a truck
driver a dealership and so it's
in everybody's blood and it they love that
nostalgia to go by and have their grandkids that walking by it's like
remember when grandpa
and grandma had that 57 Chevy it's just like that now
these guys were driving these down the road
to get here too yeah these rat rods
now this is something totally different
these rat rods are crazy they're wild
but they are safe but they build them they drive them
and the guys know that
But they're going to build them to be roadworthy.
Are they ever complete?
Everybody's always working on it.
No.
You can see the finest of all of them, and they're never done.
I know a few guys that I talked to this week,
and it's like, no, I still got to do this and this.
And when the show's done, they're going to be back to working on them.
So what are the particulars?
People want to come out to the show.
They can see what's going on here with these vehicles?
Yes.
Again, it's over at the Vibe Credit Union Showplace in Novi.
And tickets are real affordable.
it's 10 bucks to park 15 bucks to get in but we it
is family friendly we got some things that are
going on sim racing simulator racing where
your kids can do it adults can do it but again the
variety that's going to be there plus they got all kinds
of the concessions happening as well
and then i assume you're going to get a chance
to speak with some of the owners of these cars too
and you the stories behind these cars i i find
to be as impressive as the car itself yeah you know
it is it the car draws the attention
but it is the owners the story about there's one guy that
His dad had a car. It was gone for a while.
He went out to California, found it, brought it back,
and it's going to be on display at the show as well.
I've got to run down here real quick, just to say hello.
Now, this is, what's your name, first of all?
John Avey.
John Avey. Talk to me about these hot rods.
This car, I found it in a field behind a guy's garage.
It was totally stripped.
It had two doors on it and two nice quarters.
And I said, is that car for sale?
He said, yeah.
He said, I want $2,600 for it.
I said, I'll take it.
So I bought it, and here I turned it into this.
It's been a labor of love ever since.
How long have you had it?
Oh, this is five years on this car.
Incredible, incredible.
Thanks so much to everybody.
We've got the Ryan's Detroit crew over here driving it up
and everything like that.
This is awesome.
If somebody's on the fence and wondering whether they should come out
or not, what would you tell them?
You have to come out.
It's an indoor show, so it doesn't matter on the weather.
And all the information you can get at shinyrustshow.net.
Randy Adam, it is so great to see you, buddy.
This is an incredible show.
We invite everybody out.
