That new surveillance footage, which we're about to show you,
but when we arrived at the store, the owner was very nice,
very friendly. He graciously invited us into film,
but said everything that the store had to say has already been said.
There were actually customers here, very defensive of the store
and some customers who had not heard of the store until this Brooklyn
Bird drama and say that is actually what brought them out here today.
Now let's get you to that new security footage.
It appears to show this weekend's interaction between
singer Kelly Clarkson and a store employee in
In the footage, you see Clarkson looking
at what we now know is Molly the bird.
Now, there's no audio in this footage,
but seconds later, you see Clarkson go off camera.
And then towards the end of this interaction, as Clarkson
is nearing the door, you see her very actively using her hands,
gesturing, telling a different employee behind
the cash register something before she then takes off.
Clarkson says she was visiting the shop on Saturday
and treated as though as she couldn't
afford the bird comparing her experience
to the famous shopping scene in Pretty Woman
adding on X that the store had lost a huge sale
the shop putting out their side of the story
saying Molly the bird wasn't for sale
and that they actually tried to offer Clarkson other items
Clarkson disputes the shop's account
of what happened. Meantime the store now says they have
been flooded with angry messages, negative reviews,
even harassed in person. When we stopped
by today, though, we mostly met customers
who came to check out the store because of the social
media feud. Twitter brought me here,
so we found out on Twitter about it. We were sending each
other memes and stuff,
and I didn't think they would be open today, to be honest with you.
I was going to call ahead,
but I assumed their phone wouldn't even be on, and I was just, again,
in the area and I figured I would walk here I was having a nice day
and um yeah I checked it out and
they said it's okay to take pictures
and so I was sending my friend pictures
I feel like a meta celebrity I took a picture
with Molly like I'm a Kelly Clarkson fan through
and through I saw all the uh stuff on social media had
a New York trip planned I'm from South
Carolina but I'm here for business um decided
to just come check out this famous bird and see what
it was all about again the store owner did not want
to go on camera today pointing us to their previous
statements they last said that they had reached out
to Kelly Clarkson directly had not heard back
and that they hoped to clear up what they call a misunderstanding
and maybe even laugh about it
one day but Steve and Natasha even
though they didn't want to go on camera they did give me this art of
play tote bag to show they say that their customers
their loyal customers and people in the neighborhood
have been wearing these loudly
and proudly here in the streets to show their support for the
store. That's the latest live here from Cobble Hill.
