We do have this right here to tell you about
a major water main break leading to chaos in Los Feliz,
flooding streets and swallowing a Spectrum work van hole.
Go live to Fox 11's Rachel Aragon. Rachel.
Hey, Kristen. Yeah, happening right here,
right now off of Franklin Avenue and Normandy Avenue.
We have crews from Department of Water
and Power here working hard for many hours now trying to make fast work
and repair this massive sinkhole that you just referenced.
But take a look here at some pretty remarkable video.
We know the water main break in Los Feliz left part of a residential
street flooded and even swallowed a Spectrum van this morning.
Well, LADWP saying an eight-inch pipe,
by the way, burst on North Normandy Avenue.
But also, check out these other images we have, too,
from Citizen App and SkyFox showing a Spectrum cable service van.
You see they're stuck in the water-filled sinkhole.
Crews were quick to be on scene working to repair the break,
and it says safety in the area.
In the meantime, though, part of Normandy Avenue has
been shut down between Franklin and this area.
Residents, though, we spoke with say this water main break
is raising concerns about neighborhood infrastructure.
It honestly makes me worried about the infrastructure.
I know they just did a bunch of work along Franklin
and they were digging and stuff.
And I'm wondering, did they do their due diligence?
I love this neighborhood.
And I think I would say a positive thing that has come
from this is we're all standing out in the sunshine.
talking to our neighbors.
Meeting new neighbors.
Yeah.
Well, Spectrum provided us with
an update in a statement saying
that their technician was working
in the area when the sinkhole
opened this morning.
By the way, the technician,
they say, is fine.
They also add that they will
retrieve the van once local
officials say it's safe to do so.
We also know that customers remain
without water in the area as well.
So just keep that in mind, and
there's still no timeline for
when the service will be restored.
But back here live, though,
we can tell you just in the hour or
so that I've been out here,
They've been making some pretty quick work
when it comes to cleaning this up and repairing this.
But again, some pretty remarkable images out here in Los Feliz.
Pretty live tonight. I'm Rachel Aragon.
I'll send it back to you in the studio.
Really, when you see that van and those wipers going,
glad to hear the worker's okay.
Rachel, do you get any sense that they'll be working
on this through the night, like until the morning?
You know, again, just from the hour we've been here,
we've seen some pretty fast work.
So I'm guessing maybe by sunset or sundown, it should be wrapping up.
But, you know, we never know
with these water main breaks and sinkholes.
We'll continue to update throughout the night. Thanks so much.
