Breaking tonight, this right here.
Crews with LADWP are racing to shut off
a gushing water main right now in Boyle Heights.
An 8-inch pipe burst just before 7
o'clock tonight near North Soto and Barlow Streets,
sending fast-moving water toward homes and businesses.
At this hour, it's still unclear how many customers are impacted.
With that, welcome to Good Night LA. I'm Christine Devine.
LA Mayor Karen Bass
and City Councilwoman Nithya Raman did not hold back tonight.
The two went toe-to-toe in the last debate before the mayoral election,
just three weeks from today.
Fox 11's Matthew Suder breaks it all down. Matthew.
Well, Christine, as you said, Election Day is now three weeks away.
And according to recent polls, a third of voters are still undecided.
So tonight could be a decisive night.
You told me that you...
This is a lie.
It is not. I have been taking care of your constituents for four years.
A crucial showdown and neither candidate holding back.
Do the residents of Boyle Heights have your phone number?
Were they able to call you? Absolutely, they do.
Mayor Karen Bass and council member Nithya Raman head to head
for the only televised debate before November's runoff.
Your colleagues have a very difficult time working with you.
As a matter of fact, we had to twist their arms
to get them to even serve on the committee.
I think, Angelina, you're gonna hear a lot
of insults tonight, personal insults,
Because this mayor cannot defend the record of the last four years.
Immigration, public safety and homelessness,
the issues front and center along with each other's records.
It was an hour that went by faster than any hour
that I've ever experienced in my life.
Raman in the spin yard after answering a quick question.
Third of voters are estimated to be undecided at this point.
What do you think is your biggest accomplishment
that you want them to know?
And what separates you from Mayor Bass? In my district, we have reduced
homelessness significantly.
It is still the biggest issue that's facing Los Angeles.
We've always going in the right direction right now.
I think under Mayor Bass's leadership,
we have a lot more work to do,
but she's taking us in the right direction.
Then it was up to surrogates making
the final pitch to undecided voters.
Raman is about finding solutions to root causes.
Literally, I am in City Hall 4118,
just puts one encampment from one block to the next.
But there are some blocks where those constituents don't want.
No one wants encampments even if it doesn't, but it's very expensive.
That's why she was saying it's scarce resources.
That's why we need to use our dollars wisely.
What is her biggest accomplishment?
Why are you supporting Mayor Bass?
I support Mayor Bass because
and I've been a very outspoken critic when there
are policies that I disagree with.
But I also recognize her ability
to pull individuals together to help lead
this city forward.
You're making your decision on a lot of personal levels.
Personal experience, yes, because that's what people should do.
Now, Mayor Bass did not attend the Spinyard
to take questions from the media.
Her staff says that she's going to let her debate do the talking.
Reporting live tonight, Matthew Seedorf, Fox 11 News.
Watching.
Right here, decisions about MacArthur
Park's future are in the spotlight.
There was a town hall meeting tonight led
by a group called California Rising and Others.
Local leaders there and residents tackling six key policies,
including boosting safety with park rangers,
reopening the historic Westlake Theater, improving vending spaces.
They also discussed redirecting drug rehab services
to St. Vincent Medical Center, keeping Wilshire Boulevard open.
L.A. County District Attorney Nathan Hockman spoke at that meeting.
From a park that John Alley was describing
is no different than what he saw a while ago
with drug-addicted,
mentally ill people probably in the park getting drug deals
to one with hundreds of families now enjoying the park.
that's how this whole area is going to change.
So thank you very much for the question.
Now the goal for the park
creates safe, clean vending areas
within the Westlake Theatre and
Central Westlake Projects while keeping
surrounding sidewalks clear
and ADA accessible. We know there's been
problems at the park.
Beloved family dog was attacked by a stranger
and later found dead. We do want to
warn you, details in this story
may not be appropriate for some viewers.
Fox 11's Gina Silva
reports from Linwood.
It really is a disturbing and heartbreaking case.
And now a family is left wondering
who could have done this to a dog they loved so much.
Honestly, I still can't like wrap my head around what happened
because it's just like the amount of violence
to an innocent dog, it's kind of like hard to process.
Filiberto Reyes is still in shock
that someone would lure his beloved husky Rufo
from his front yard, kill him by hanging,
and leave his body at the door of a business about
a mile away in an alley.
He was brought here in this alley, probably like a mile away from where
I live, and eventually died here from getting hung with a,
I believe it's a ratchet, like
it was like a ratchet strap that they use for like pallets
or something. Rufo was taken from
his home in Compton on October 4th
and brought here to the area of Magnolia Avenue and Long
Beach Boulevard in Lynwood.
A video showing Rufo hanging from a business door began circulating
online, sparking outrage.
Then shortly after, another video surfaced on X. This one appears
to show a man walking with Rufo.
It doesn't cross nobody's mind that the dog's going to get taken
and murdered in the way that he got killed.
Filiberto is hoping someone knows who did this to Rufo,
a dog adored by his family.
It's hard because I've had him for so many years.
I've seen him grow up since a puppy,
and I would consider him like a son,
even though I know he's not a human,
but he's my son, he was my son.
If you know anything about this case,
if you recognize the man in the video,
contact the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.
Reporting from Lynwood, I'm Gina Silva, Fox 11 News.
Erosion is causing cliffs in Laguna Beach to crumble,
raising serious safety concerns.
Parts of Pacific Coast Highway's southbound lane
is closed after a cliffside collapse near Crystal Cove.
Officials blame storms, high surf,
and Hurricane Rachel's influence for worsening conditions.
Other nearby beaches have also suffered damage,
leading to closures and repair efforts.
Tonight LA weather is sponsored by the law offices of Larry H. Parker.
Adam Kruger here with your forecast and it looks like our first big
Santa Ana wind event of the season is coming in just a couple of days.
We've got a lot of weather alerts to cover,
not just in terms of the Santa Ana winds and the heat,
but also talking about the coast still.
We have a beach hazard statement. Let's start right there.
That's in effect through Thursday.
The situation not as serious as it's been the last couple of days,
but still during the morning hours,
there could be minor tidal overflow.
elevated surf and rip currents continue to be a concern as well
and again this is in effect
through Thursday now we get to the impacts
of the Santa Ana winds there's a heat advisory in effect
for Thursday through Saturday at the coast
and slightly inland temperatures there could get up
to 95 degrees now it's going to be pretty warm far inland as well
but it's just that temperatures
this time of year at the coast this warm
are so much warmer than normal that's why the heat
advisories are issued there then we have a red flag warning
because of the windy conditions and
very dry air expected. This is for Thursday and Friday.
But even outside of those boundaries,
we see widespread wind alerts. I know there's a lot on this map.
The tan color is a wind advisory
and then this kind of darker yellow color is a high wind watch,
which will likely change to
a high wind warning or a mixture of high wind warnings
and advisories. The warning is a little
more severe than an advisory.
And for each particular region, you can see on top the
forecast sustained wind speeds and at the bottom, the gusts.
At times, gusts could burst up into
to that level. So we're looking at gusts in the mountains,
for example, Thursday and Friday that
might get as high as 50 to 70 miles per hour.
So this one's pretty serious. Again, in a little
closer, just kind of north and northwest of LA,
you can see the little intricacies here between
the advisory and the more severe warnings.
For example, near Malibu, the Santa Monica Mountains
there, there's a high wind watch,
which could change to a warning there. So again, little
pockets where the winds are going to be pretty strong.
And it's usually just the Santa Ana wind
corridors where we're going to find
the winds being most strong. You can see the purple colors
on the map right here. So a lot of the LA basins kind
of spared from some of the strongest winds.
That's our computer model forecast for Thursday.
We'll take you into Friday and you can see those
really strong winds streaming through our area.
We've got this area of low pressure here, which
has been delivering the cool weather lately.
That's going to position itself where between
the low and the high, those winds will
be shooting offshore right through Southern California. That's
what we call a Santa Ana wind.
So we've got that ideal setup for that later this week. And then if
you're wondering what happens next week,
we actually see another round of cooler air coming
our way so temperatures a little bit all over
the place over the next several days tomorrow will be
nice but warmer than today 50s in the morning some low 80s
in the afternoon with sunny skies
you can see a lot of temperatures around the LA basin
and the valleys over 80 degrees some 70s
along the coast we're looking at thursday look
at that warm-up right there 80s and 90s and then
our hottest day is going to be friday
with high temperatures in the 90s not just inland but at
the coast we expect 90s as well
and then our seven-day forecast here shows the heat lasts
into the weekend, although Friday's the hottest day.
But 90 on Saturday, 80s on Sunday, dropping
off into the 70s by Tuesday of next week.
Christine? There's a change. After surgery in Rome,

Burbank Airport, where a brand new terminal opened today,
but not without that controversy
there. Workers are protesting over staffing concerns.
Members of Unite Here Local 11 are
demanding that Marshall Retail Group,
the new retail operator, commit to rehiring all current
workers. Marshall Retail says most former employees have already
been offered positions.
And here it is. The airport's new $1.3 billion terminal replaces
the aging 1930s era terminal.
It also addresses key safety concerns
by moving farther away from the runways.
The terminal keeps its 14 gates, but adds expanded security,
more amenities, and a fully electric design.
It's gorgeous. It kind of looks like LaGuardia to me.
Like it's definitely built out and better than I thought it'd be.
You're the first passenger on the first flight
to arrive here at the new airport.
That's awesome. I had no idea it
was even going to happen, so I'm excited.
I fly out of Burbank all the time.
Me too.
Travelers will notice a new entrance, updated parking,
and improved connections to Metrolink shuttles.
Officials emphasize it is a safer,
more efficient replacement, not an expansion.
Hi there, folks. I'm Kyle Kraska.
Just ahead in sports, can the Dodgers rely on Shohei Otani
for tomorrow's Game 3 of the NLCS?
We'll take a deeper dive into that, but first,
here's your poll question of the night.
How about this?
Where would you put Shohei Otani in tomorrow's Game 3?
These are your choices.
Lead off second, fourth, fifth, seventh in the order or on the bench.
You can give us your thoughts at FoxLA.com slash vote.

After dropping the game one and two of the NLCS in Milwaukee,
The Dodgers now returning home
with their backs getting very close to that wall.
For the two-time champs to beat the Brewers
and get back to the fall classic,
a lot rests on the aching shoulders of the struggling Shohei Ohtani.
Today, Ohtani took batting practice on the field
as he tries to break out of this dreadful slump.
While battling injury,
Shohei's gone 3-for-20 in the playoffs with seven strikeouts.
Manager Dave Roberts said Ohtani will
be in the lineup for tomorrow's Game 3
after the two had a conversation where Shohei
was adamant that he feels good enough to play
it's more of hey man if you're not feeling good enough
that you can feel like you can perform up
to your ability then we'll pivot we'll give you
a couple days um and talking to him he feels like
he's close to finding something and was close yesterday
and finding something mechanically
with that i'm excited so um i'm all about it and so he'll be in there
The number one priority is for the team to win.
So whether that be for me to contribute on the offensive side,
I do want to feel confident in the approach
that I'm taking on that day,
whether that be mechanical or anything else.
So that's really just been my focus all along.
And you can watch Game 3 tomorrow on FS1.
Blake Snell will take the mound for the Dodgers.
He'll be opposed by Robert Gasser for Milwaukee.
First pitch just after 5 o'clock, and we will have post-game
coverage throughout the night right here on Fox 11.
Meanwhile, over in the ALCS, the Rays are going to even up
their series with the Guardians in Game 2 tonight.
Tampa Bay cashing in after an error got them
on the board in the fourth.
The two men on, Liam Hicks, drives that slider to right center.
Two more runs cross, and that would be all they would need.
The Rays take Game 2, 3-1 the final.
So that series now heads to Cleveland, knotted at one game apiece.
Switching gears now, fallout from the Rams' Monday night overtime loss
to the Bills coming quickly.
Left tackle Larry Jackson suspended two games
for punching Buffalo's Bradley Chubb in the aftermath.
And the team releasing kicker Harrison Mevis,
who missed two critical field goals,
including the potential game winner in overtime, they got blocked.
Team signed Blake Grupe off the Jets practice squad.
I felt like that field goal operation was trending
in the right direction after all the work.
I think we did some good things.
I thought like the way that we were protecting.
Obviously, we can't give up the swim move area against
a player like Rousseau in that moment last night.
But it's just so you got to lean in and you got
to be able to identify what are the problems.
Let's provide some tangible solutions
and let's ultimately be able to bring it to life for the players.
Lakers preseason action against the Warriors
with Dončić among those getting the night off
new center Walker Kessler making
his preseason debut he posted 11 points nine boards and two
blocks in just 16 minutes of work Austin Reeves
a game high 28 points but the Lakers lose
101 to 89 they finished the preseason Friday against Denver
and here now oh my the results
of our poll question of the night.
I asked you earlier,
where would you put Shohei Ohtani
in tomorrow's game three?
You had a lot of options.
14% going with batting him clean up again.
That finished in second place.
But 76% of you say put him on the bench.
Could you imagine?
I cannot.
And we will not
because he will be in the lineup tomorrow.
Thanks for playing along.
We're going to take a time out.
We'll be back with more.
Good night, LA, right after this.
