Wild surveillance video of a burglary turned arson
at a store in North Philadelphia.
Three suspects wanted for using a pickaxe to try to break into that ATM
and then start a fire in the store's kitchen.
This is the 10 o'clock news. I'm Jason Martinez.
I'm Sheba Russell. Police are hoping you can help identify the men.
One of them actually injured his hand trying to break into that ATM.
Our Jennifer Lee, live for us at police headquarters tonight.
Jennifer, the business owner tells you he lost everything?
Yes, it is just horrible.
The business owner, I had a brief conversation with him over the phone,
and he says this corner store was his livelihood.
And as you said, everything is now gone from that fire.
Philadelphia police now hoping the community will
also take a look and help them identify those three burglars.
Miley Food Market in North Philly is now boarded up
as the business owner is left worrying over how he will make ends meet.
Surveillance footage from October 1st shows burglars hammering away
at an ATM machine with
pickaxes. They also spread lighter fluid all throughout
the corner store lighting it on fire
Philadelphia police sharing this footage in hopes
of finding the three individuals responsible for
the burglary and arson at the store
on Ringgold Street, police described the first male as 15 to
17 years old wearing a shirt that says TKS.
The second male is believed to be 16 to 19 years old
and police say he hurt his hand
when he wedged the pickaxe between his hand and the ATM machine.
The third male is believed
to be in his early 20s wearing torn camouflage pants.
Timestamps from surveillance videos show
the burglars were outside the store
just before 3 in the morning.
They were seen inside the store an hour later around 4 in the
morning. Then police and fire responded after
the fire was reported around 6.30 a.m. Police say if
you recognize the males, do not approach them and instead call 911.
The Central Detective Division
and the ATF Philadelphia Arson
and Explosives Task Force are investigating. The business owner
tells me it's just him and his wife who run the store.
They're now waiting to see how insurance
will respond but in the meantime they have
to figure out how they're going to earn their living
and guys they just don't know what that's going to be just yet
and it can all happen that fast
in one afternoon here for this poor couple
that own that store. Thank you, Jennifer Lee
