AI GeneratedThis news broadcast covers a deadly shooting investigation in Atlanta, the reopening of Six Flags Over Georgia following a fatal roller coaster accident, and the intensifying political campaign activities in Georgia as both Republicans and Democrats hold rallies ahead of the upcoming elections.
Atlanta police are investigating a deadly shooting
in the southwest part of the city.
Officers say they found a blood trail after responding
to reports of gunfire Friday here
on Sylvan Road at the Gateway South Apartments.
Three people later arrived at the hospital
bleeding from bullet wounds. One victim died.
Two others, a man and a woman, are expected to
survive. Detectives have not released the victim's identities
or identified any suspect or motive in
the case. We're also following a police incident
in DeKalb County on Bouldercrest Road. We're
waiting to hear from police about what exactly happened here.
We did, of course, see that fire
truck and a car getting towed.
Looks like that car struck a power line, knocking out power to
the area there. Six Flags Over Georgia reopening its gates last night,
days after Monday's horrific
tragedy. The 42-year-old park guest died
when he was ejected from a roller coaster and four
young people were injured as a result.
Fox 5's Denise Dillon reports. Many said they came for
the park's big Halloween festival, Fright Fest,
but they said they couldn't help but think about
what happened on this roller coaster, the Goliath, just days ago.
I used to come all the time as a
kid. Can't imagine what the family's going through,
but yeah, I'm very sad. As they walked
into the front gates of Six Flags,
many said they couldn't help but think about 42-year-old
Hassan Kareem, who died after falling out
of the Goliath roller coaster Monday. It was my mom
why you came here. It's something you don't hear about often
or you don't ever want to think
about. While the rides were up and running,
the Goliath remains shut down. We definitely won't
be riding the rides this time.
Prior to the park reopening, Cobb County Chairwoman Lisa Cupid
addressed the park tragedy.
What occurred is just unimaginable. She said while Cobb police
responded immediately to the scene,
the state has taken the lead in the investigation into what
happened. Insurance and Fire Commissioner John King has said
an investigative team is conducting
an in-depth examination of the ride, its operations and records.
This park has been in our community
for generations.
We recognize the vast impact that it has had on many people.
Chairwoman Cupid says
She knows residents and businesses around the park have been affected.
But right now, the focus is on Hassan Karim's family
and the four juveniles who were injured.
Right now, though, our attention belongs to the people who were hurt
and to the family that is still reeling
by this very tragic incident that took place.
Visitors who came to the park on the first night it's
been open since the terrible event say
their focus is also on the family.
For the family and for everyone involved, it's just, it's tragic.
Fright Fest is a big deal for Six Flags.
Many of the visitors, as well as some of the employees, told me
tonight's crowd seemed a little smaller than in the past.
In Cobb County, Denise Dillon, Fox 5 News.
Just weeks to go now until Election Day,
and both parties are bringing out their big names here in Georgia.
President Donald Trump rallied Republicans
in the northwest part of the state yesterday,
taking aim at Democrats running in two of the state's biggest races.
So now Democrats are prepping to fire up their own supporters tonight.
Good day's Kim Leffler is live outside
the Cobb County Convention Center
where Senator John Ossoff and former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms
are going to be holding a rally.
Hey, Kim.
Hey, Caitlin. Good morning to you.
Yeah, tonight, Bottoms
and Ossoff will be working to rally voters here in Cobb County.
It comes just a day after President Trump was here in Georgia
rallying supporters up in Dalton. Hello Georgia,
and hello Dalton! We love President
Trump returning to Georgia Friday rallying Republicans
in the final weeks before the
midterm elections and taking aim
at Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff. 18 days from now the people
of Georgia are going to defeat
your weak arrogant hate-filled radical left senator. President Trump
throwing his support behind Republican Congressman Mike Collins
who recent polls show trailing Ossoff
Collins emphasizing his loyalty to the president.
Sir, we appreciate your leadership, your backbone,
you're standing up for America and putting America first.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Rick Jackson also taking the stage,
praising the president's work on behalf of foster children.
There's never been a president has done more for foster children
that are abused and neglected than this man here.
But President Trump had harsh words for Jackson's Democratic opponent,
former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms.
Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms destroyed Atlanta
with her crime and filth and constant riots.
That's despite Atlanta police data showing
most violent crime rates at historic lows.
Now it's the Democrats' turn to energize voters with Ossoff
and Bottoms set to rally supporters in Cobb County tonight.
And tonight's rally at the Cobb County Convention Center
is set to begin at 7 p.m.
We also know former Vice President Kamala Harris
is expected to come to Georgia later this month.
And President Trump is also expected to return to Georgia next weekend,
this time in Macon.
Live this morning in Cobb County, Kim Loeffler for Good Day Atlanta.
All right, Kim, thanks for that setup. Appreciate you.
