AI GeneratedThe Denver Broncos are struggling with a stagnant offense characterized by poor player performance and an overcomplicated system. Despite a winning record, the team relies heavily on its defense and late-game surges, while quarterback Bo Nix struggles with confidence and pocket presence.
The Broncos are overthinking this,
and it really doesn't need to be that hard when
analyzing what's going wrong.
Everyone knows now it is not the play calling.
It is a player performance problem, but it does not all fall on Bo Nix.
And the reason for that is because we know he's a winner.
That being said, the system,
what's being required of the players, and what's being
required of everyone may be a bit overcomplicated.
and this might be a Sean Payton problem just
as much as he helps us win he's also holding the
team back and that that's you know
these are problems thankfully that I'm used to when it
comes to like you know teams that have championship
aspirations we we had an abysmal offense guys back
in 2015 when we won the Super Bowl granted Bo Nix
is not you know a hampered Peyton Manning
um and the defense is not the 2015 broncos we know
this however there is enough of a balance
between this team and an understanding
and an acceptance of the players everyone's bought into
the system no one's questioning it especially
because we're three and two we have a winning
record as much as people want to dismiss
that um now what's gonna happen thursday night i don't
know probably bad things if i'm being honest just
the way that things are set up right now
it's not equating to probably a good outcome i
but this is also the nfl you do not know what
to expect i would be thrilled with a four
and two outcome out of that six game stretch
uh last game was a game that we had to have we got it
not maybe in the way that we wanted it to
be but uh now the question is what can we do about
this offense is it going to change or are we stuck
maybe with this this version of of a uh i guess
an offense that's fighting against itself almost
You can tell, literally, when watching games,
that the Broncos offense is their own worst enemy,
not the defense of anyone that they're facing.
And I want to give credit. Obviously,
other teams are doing things as well.
It's not just all about the Broncos.
However, when you see this much of a consistent problem,
you can clearly tell we're getting in our own way.
So anyway, make sure to subscribe, join the channel,
join all that stuff, and we'll keep updating you on all things Broncos.
that being said let's just kind of jump right
into this because there is a lot to talk about
um so right now uh Swiper
who is a awesome really like a great content creator um for the Nuggets
but he also talks you know just Denver sports
in general he says the Denver Broncos offense is
currently being ran by a timid quarterback
who is second guessing everything he sees down the field
and the running game will continue to suffer
if the QB doesn't strike fear in defenses down the
field these are fair criticisms I don't I don't believe
and so uh Bo Nix's ESPN QBR this is from
Andrew Mason um said his QBR on Sunday was uh 27.6
that is the 21st of 27 eligible quarterbacks
so far this you know this specific week this was before
the Monday night game but obviously you
know Stafford and Josh Allen both performed
better than Bo Nix no one's gonna be talking
and about anything other than that.
It was better than Justin Herbert's QBR, 23rd, who had a 26.6,
so not too much higher, just one point above Herbert's really bad QBR.
Nick's season-long QBR is 43.1,
which is 24th of 30 eligible quarterbacks,
and Herbert is 30th, and the 29 spot is the quarterback
that the Broncos will be seeing on Thursday in Sam Darnold.
so you know stats don't always tell
the truth numbers don't always tell the truth
I don't know if Darnold is playing worse than Bo Nix I haven't
been watching a ton of Seahawks
football but at the same time apparently
the numbers say that Bo has been playing better
than Sam Darnold this year granted Sam hasn't played
as many games uh there's more stats to
show from Bo but you know we've still beaten
the Rams in an amazing second half primetime game
uh Jags second half was amazing not much about
this game was great uh neither was the Niners
or the Chiefs so like our losses our two losses didn't look great
and this one win was obviously
not a great offensive performance either
um but it's it's nothing where it's like that you cannot
come back from this these are things
that are fixable I truly believe that um and uh Zach
Kelberman was talking about in four games
with Davis Webb as play caller the Broncos uh logged
a 37.4 percent offensive success rate uh
which is you know based which is the the fifth lowest or
sorry the yeah sixth lowest in the NFL
and a 9.6 percent explosive play rate which is the third
lowest was not good numbers
but obviously not like the worst in the league but still not great
in week five uh with Sean Payton calling plays Denver had
a 27.5 percent success rate and a 2.5
explosive play rate across the first three quarters
those numbers jumped 47 and 11.8
respectively in the fourth quarter
and the broncos completed their uh comeback win this is you can
almost argue is like an unacceptable
and yet somehow a sustainable way of running a team
and an offense the defense is doing
a remarkable job keeping us in games and the offense just
waits they wait until the fourth quarter
when maybe the other team maybe we're just conditioned
better than everyone else everyone's tired in the fourth quarter
and we aren't but it's just a crazy
way to like consistently win games
and everyone says it needs to change and it does Sean Payton
has acknowledged this in his press conferences
but at the same time we have a winning record
we're going against really hard teams there's obviously
the Chargers not being one of them but
still like it's it's it's this is not an easy schedule by any means
so the broncos rating so
far right now total offense 30th uh rushing
offense 25th passing offense 25th yards per play
26 yards per rush 27th yards
per pass play 28th third down conversion rate 27th points per game
26th when you have that many consistent major stats offensively
in the bottom five essentially
or bottom five to eight like yeah you can see why fans
are upset that this offense is stagnant
they cannot get out of their own way
and we're just stuck waiting to be like waiting until the
moment happens where things get solved
um uh dan uh orlovsky was talking about how just Bo Nix
is he's really really right now struggling
with just like just his feet in the pocket like he
cannot he does not feel comfortable throwing in the pocket he
and uh it's like and we knew this
about Bo that it seems like he you know performs better
when he's on the run this was from last
year but it's like even worse now it's
been like just amplified where he can barely make plays out
of the pocket and almost needs to be on the run
to I don't know like improvise or something like
he's not seeing the field and so because you have to like back up
and ask yourself why can't Bo
throw from the pocket it's because he's not seeing
the field he almost like needs to limit the amount
of field he's working with by running to one side
to allow things to open up and make a play which
is not how you can run an offense that's going
to win a super bowl it will catch up with you
especially in a playoff game um i i want people
to remember like oh everyone talks about oh we beat
the bills that's one playoff game you have to win three
to win a super bowl at the very least if not
four so it's uh i just i you know
that that that is an absolutely a concern um you know and zach
Stevens here said that there is a ton uh there
is a tone uh the tone sorry is a kind of changing
when in terms of Sean talking about Bo Sean
is now trying to build up his confidence again
because it's clear that confidence is not where it once
was um even with the team being three and two
it's not because of Bo Nix's play
and so besides maybe second half Bo in the against the Rams but
after that like most of these wins have been
been because of you know just the defense and you
know the offense kind of keeping us afloat
so um when it comes to you know Sawyer Beninger from
predominantly orange said that I'm
not worried about any sort of inability to throw the ball
down the field we've seen Nix do it before
and he can do it again the concerning part of Nix's play
up to this point is that it simply looks like we're
not seeing the same guy out there that
we've seen in the past unmet expectations
with Nix in his third season have caused unrest
amongst the fans to say the least Nix has
not shown progression in year three and instead has
shown um you know some significant signs
of regression you almost expect it from like a
sophomore slump except Bo was playing better last year
and now we are in a situation where
he's gotten he's playing like the worst of his career
um everyone wants to speculate is it you
know his ankle is it like just like
not getting enough reps in the offseason i think it's all
of the above for sure uh Bo is even starting
to like you know talk about like being more confident
being playing a little bit more free uh he's aware
that he's not playing his best he even said it
after usually he just says we won like you know it is what it is uh
but he even admitted after
you know sunday's game it's like yeah i didn't
that was not my best game um and um so Ian
Sinclair from Mile High Report said
that if it wasn't obvious obvious over the last season and
five games denver is never out of a game uh that's
a heck of a thing for a team uh to possess no
matter what the broncos encounter
no matter how bad they play they have a shot it's what this team
is good and bad thankfully denver survived
on sunday it really is amazing how the broncos just
look like a completely different team in the final quarter
the same is true for nicks it starts with
the running the ball better it's no coincidence that nicks
and the denver offense started to play
better when the running game was more effective whatever
the broncos do in the fourth quarter
would be nice to see earlier in games
but how many times have we said that over since the last
season and i agree it's like you you we can keep asking for it
but and then yet they keep winning
so i feel like a lot of the broncos players
and coaches are like how much do we need to change
for winning games.
John Heath from Broncos Wire said that it's clear
the Broncos' offensive struggles have
frustrated new wide receiver Jalen Waddle.
After Denver ran the ball on 3rd
and 9 early in the second quarter, Waddle looked up in
the air, yanked off his chinstrap,
and appeared to shake his head as he tried to
the sideline.
Later in the game, Waddle slammed his helmet
on the sideline after a 3-and-out.
He finished the game with just two receptions for 19 yards.
Denver would likely be wise to get Waddle more involved,
but he could also do a better
job of making the most of his opportunities with reliable hands
when he is targeted and it's
referencing to a couple times where he's dropped the ball
and this comes with like a rep problem
it's like the broncos have a rep problem where
if they are not getting their guys the ball often
enough it's like you know like they have stone hands
because it's like oh i like the ball is
actually like in my vicinity which is not a good excuse by any means
but it it's also telling that
The Broncos go through long stretches of offensive lulls.
Throw more quick plays.
Offer more quick slants,
designed plays that aren't meant to take very long
for Bo to allow the play to develop and then make his reads.
Because clearly he's not reading the field very well anyway,
so why not go with the quick game?
And then you're expecting maybe a defense
to expect you to make that adjustment.
and then so you try and trick them out
or psych them out by going with like the long uh the longer
plays and yet Bo's not executing them
so why not do a version of a playbook that Bo will have a
better time executing that's just that's all I can say right now
that is probably gonna be I mean if
that means you know messing up early in the game maybe like a fumble
or an interception happens
so be it just make the guys loose let let them play loose
if it's like a you know a turnover
game like full of like just mistakes all over
the place at least you tried something and know that's
not the way that you can do things
but you know to kind of run this thing back over and over and
over again it doesn't seem like not only is it not sustainable
but you just know it's not going
to work in three or four consecutive playoff
games against really good teams so uh with that
being said let me know what you guys think about all
this down below in the comments. I want to
hear your thoughts and until next video I will see you then.
